Back when we received a tease about the 2019 Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat trims, there wasn’t much Dodge seemed inclined on sharing. There were two teaser images, a profile for the Challenger SRT Hellcat and a look at its new hood, and another teaser image for the Charger SRT Hellcat with a focus on its front fascia grille. There was talk about improving horsepower, maybe a new Hellcat engine, and even some SRT Demon bits thrown in to keep the gates of Hell open a little longer. Summer is here, and as promised, Dodge released more news about their 2019 high-powered sedan.
Recap of What’s New
In case we’re not all caught up here, there is a lot of talk about stretching the horsepower of the Dodge SRT Hellcat trims by a little for 2019. With the not-so-amazing reception of the SRT Demon, Dodge is using the experience and the technology used to develop the SRT Demon engine to improve upon what already works – a muscle car that is more inclined to be used on the street, but can still burn up the race track. With this in mind, it can’t be a coincidence that Dodge is also going with a more iconic look to pay homage to its heritage, once again, for 2019.
Aren’t tailgating parties fun? And no, for those that were previously unaware, it’s not a party where a bunch of cars tailgate one another like ants. A tailgate party is actually a social event that takes place usually before or after a game of sports, like football, in or around the stadium or arena where the game takes place. Many people will park in one location, usually around a main center area where people will set up grills for barbecue, provide alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and whatever else to add to the good times. Most consumers may think a truck or an SUV is the perfect solution, especially with the RamBox Cargo Management System, but when it comes to big parties, minivans might work just as well.
Tailgating With the Dodge Grand Caravan
Yes, it’s a minivan, but the Dodge Grand Caravan was practically made for tailgating. Mainly, we’re talking about the Grand Caravan SXT trim, with a starting MSRP of $31,750* that has the third row Stow ‘n Go tailgate seats. Yeah, that’s right – the second row and third row Stow ‘n Go seats may be standard across the lineup, but the 60/40 Stow ‘n Go split-bench double as tailgate seats in the Grand Caravan SXT. Simply flip the seats back, and that’s two front-row seats to the tailgate party.
Then there’s food, beverages, and party favors. Where can we keep all of this stuff? Depending on the party guests, thanks to the Stow ‘n Go seats that also double as split-benches, we can load up one or both sides of the Dodge Grand Caravan. With the second and third-rows stowed away, a total of 140 cubic-feet of free space opens up. That’s enough for a cooler or two, some sports gear and party favors, even a stereo for sick beats if looking to provide some music without draining the car battery.
The 2018 Dodge Durango Pursuit was unveiled not too long ago, May 2018, and it was another welcomed vehicle by police and law enforcement officers (LEOs). Like the Dodge Charger Pursuit, the Dodge Durango Pursuit was tailored as a vehicle for the police force. Evildoers will want to think twice about their next high-speed chase – Powered by a HEMI V8 engine, the Dodge Durango Pursuit may as well be a battering ram. Now, with 2019 details having been leaked for the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger, Dodge debuted the 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit at the National Sheriffs Association Show.
For the 2018 and 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit models, the powertrain is made up of a 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both model years also come with the same standard all-wheel drivetrain (AWD) to handle all types of terrain. If things get a little bumpy, the 2018 and 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit are outfitted with a two-speed transfer case for true low-range off-road capability. The 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit also offers a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine option for 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and a highway fuel economy of 25 mpg versus 22 mpg on the highway with the 360hp 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine.
The body and chassis of the Dodge Durango also received modifications for its entrance exam into the police academy. For instance, the 2018 Dodge Durango Pursuit includes the segment’s longest wheelbase (119.8 inches) to provide added stability and improved handling, 8.1 inches of ground clearance, and larger, heavy-duty anti-lock brakes. Assuming these changes carry over to the 2019 model, the 2019 Dodge Durango Pursuit has a pursuit-rated brake package that features 13.8-inch rotors up front and 13-inch units in the rear for impressive stopping power.
Back in 2017 when the Dodge brand released the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, it was definitely a pinnacle of achievement for a factory-manufactured vehicle. Outfitted with a a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine modified with over 90 new parts, the engine had the ability to generate up to 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque with a little 100+ high octane fuel. Since then, many wondered what was next for Dodge. At the same time, Chevrolet and other brands kept claiming they could beat the Dodge SRT Demon. For every brand that swats at the “fastest car title,” Dodge swats back.
2019 Dodge Challenger
For those who thought the Demon was it for the Dodge Challenger, don’t worry just yet. A teaser for the 2019 Dodge Challenger was released in May 2018, with more details being revealed in the summer. The teaser showed us a new design for the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat that gives the muscle car a new retro dual-snorkel hood scoop inspired by classic Mopar designs to pay tribute to its heritage way back when the Dodge Challenger first began. The first-generation Dodge Challenger featured the Dodge Challenger Trans Am, or T/A for short, and we think the revival of the T/A for recent Dodge Challenger model years may be linked to bringing back the retro look for the new 2019 Dodge Challenger.
The new hood scoop will also be functional, said to feed air into the supercharger lurking underneath. More air means more power, and of course bigger competition. Enter the next-gen Chevrolet Corvette.
“Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!” That’s the kind of quote we could use when talking about the legendary Dodge Viper. Back in 2016, the nearly 30 year-old sports car was finally being put to rest to downsize the Dodge lineup a bit, along with the discontinued Dodge Dart. Let us tell you, it didn’t quite stick. It first started with some going away Dodge Viper special editions that sold out quick. A second round of more special editions were produced and and then brought back a second time for collectors that got the memo a little late. Then we thought the Dodge Viper said its goodbyes when Pennzoil made a Last Viper tribute video. We thought it was done for … But Dodge has other plans.
The Dodge Viper
If it wasn’t for the Dodge Viper sports car, the high performance automobile group, SRT, may have never come to be. Originally called “Team Viper”, the “Street and Racing Technology” (SRT) group was put in charge of designing and developing the legendary Dodge Viper. The model went through various names – the Dodge Viper SRT-10 in 2008, then the SRT Viper in 2013, and then the latest model, Phase VX (later simply called “Dodge Viper”) that lasted from 2013 to 2017.
Under the hood of the Dodge Viper was a hand-built 8.4-liter V10 engine. Designed with ten cylinders in two banks of five, this engine was rated at 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque – the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. With that kind of power, the Dodge Viper had some impressive track times. In 2016, the Dodge Viper, ACR (American Club Racer) was named the “ultimate street-legal race car”, having held more track records than any production car in the world (a total of 13 road course lap records as certified by the Sports Car Club of America), and a recorded time of accelerating from 0-60 mph in 3 seconds flat. However, one would argue the 2003 Dodge Viper Hennessey Venom 650R was better, with a recorded acceleration time of 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, and able to run a quarter mile in 10.7 seconds.
Dodge has created another toy for the boys and girls in blue, the new Dodge Durango Pursuit. But just as fun as it is to drive the new SUV, it’s also a very helpful tool that helps law enforcement officers (LEOs) do their job and stay safe. Here’s a look at the new Durango Pursuit and the Dodge Charger Pursuit.
Dodge Charger Pursuit
Dependability, quick acceleration, technology, and most importantly, safety, the Dodge Charger Pursuit is a nice set of wheels. Outfitted with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, the standard version of the Dodge Charger Pursuit cranks out 292 horsepower and has a fuel economy of 26 mpg. If the squad wishes to go up a level, the Charger Pursuit is also available with a larger 5.7-liter V8 engine, able to produce a best-in-class 370 horsepower.
In addition, some high-grade hardware has been integrated to make the Pursuit durable, agile, and powerful. Among the Charger Pursuit’s performance features are a performance-tuned suspension, load-leveling NIVOMAT shocks, 14.5-inch front and 13.8-inch rear pursuit-rated brake package, 18-inch performance tires and two-mode electronic stability control (ESC).
There’s also some nifty tech. Surprise, surprise. The Dodge Charger Pursuit has a 12.1-inch touchscreen connected to Uconnect 12.1, a user-friendly built-in computer system that has been integrated with advanced law enforcement systems. The specialized UConnect system allows officers to efficiently respond to calls, share their location, and navigate the roads with access to the most-up-to-date information.
Dodge’s heritage is one of those things that will always make Dodge vehicles like the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger unmistakable from the other muscle cars in the market. With 2018 heading into the summer, that means vehicles for the 2019 model year will start to make their appearances. With that comes the teasing and debuts of many concepts and changes for some of our favorites. Most recently is the tease Dodge gave us about the new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and the 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat.

Both of these vehicles were made for racing on the strip or driving in the streets – sound familiar?
When did super-powered SUVs and crossovers become the next big thing in the auto industry? There’s the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. They’re all powerful vehicles with amazing racing times, but the cost for any of them will set a consumer back. The MSRP for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is around $86,000. So when it comes to an SUV that’s fast and affordable, U.S. News & World Report put the masses to rest and named the 2018 Dodge Durango R/T on their list for the “Fastest Cars for the Money in 2018.”
When it comes to finding a car with heart-pounding performance, it’s easy. As we already noted, there are plenty of options. Finding a vehicle with performance that gets the adrenaline going but won’t break the bank is a little more difficult. When it comes to the exciting vehicles that consumers love to race, it may seem like having a fat wallet is the only way to go. Luckily, there are actually a number of available vehicles that blend an affordable price tag with plenty of power, nimble handling, and fun-to-drive attitudes. It’s not just limited to sports cars and muscle cars either – SUVs and crossovers have fun too.
Spring is here, Summer is already barreling down on us with that South Florida heat, and those of you who are still in school, classes are coming to an end soon enough. Once school’s out for summer, that means it’s time for a family vacation, and what better way than to take a long trip for some sight-seeing and making new memories? Even better, why leave home when you can take a piece of it with you by ditching the airfare and taking a road trip to the next vacation spot? With SUVs and Crossovers like the 2018 Dodge Durango, there’s plenty of space, power, and entertainment.
Not just for cargo, the 2018 Dodge Durango can seat up to five or seven passengers. Coming standard with a second-row 60/40 split bench seat, smaller families can can fit a lot of cargo in the back of the vehicle and not feel crowded. If looking for a little more comfort, triple-zone automatic a/c control comes standard and leather upholstery options begin with the Dodge Durango GT trim. When it comes to carrying more cargo, that 60/40 split-bench comes in handy when space is only needed for two passengers, because when the second-row seat is folded down there is 84.5 cubic-feet of space for cargo.
Is this a bigger family expedition? By opting in for the third-row seating group (only possible for the SXT and SXT Plus trims), the 2018 Dodge Durango can seat seven people. If the family is still small and you just have kids who require a little more personal space when sitting next to each other for long periods of time, consumers can opt-in for second-row captain chairs instead of a bench seat on all 2018 Dodge Durango trims except the base (SXT). Changing to captain chairs will limit the seating capacity to four in all trims where the option is possible though, so keep that in mind too.
Ever hear of Uconnect? For those unaware, it’s the brand name of the infotainment system used by the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). That means every Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram truck, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, and, of course, Fiat vehicle can come equipped with Uconnect, depending on the trim and options and/or packages chosen by the consumer. If you never heard of an infotainment system before, it’s a technological combination of one’s stereo system and numerous apps and services that connect the driver to their car and third-party networks. So let’s talk about Uconnect and what it does.
What’s the Deal with Uconnect?
Depending on the type of Uconnect system a car has, Uconnect can include anything from working the stereo to music and games, as well as traffic reports and even car data. There are multiple versions of Uconnect denoted by a number, but in reality, there are only two versions of Uconnect out now. The previous generation and the next-generation Uconnect 4. Past versions of Uconnect one may see include Uconnect 5.0 and Uconnect 8.4, and it is actually the same version of Uconnect (possibly with additional functions) on a different screen size, i.e. five inches or 8.4 inches.
