Stellantis is evolving into its own with the report of an agreement for a joint venture opportunity with LG Energy Solution to produce new battery cells and modules made in the United States. The North American plant will grow in the automotive capital of the nation, Detroit, Michigan. The production volume is set at 40 gigawatts hours for the product. The goal is set to have ground broken in the second quarter of 2022. The production of the EV batteries is set for the beginning of 2024, precisely when Dodge is going to launch the brand’s first-ever, all-electric muscle car. The Dodge Challenger has made waves for decades in this industry, as they are managing sales over the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, and Chevy Corvette through three quarters in 2021 total sales. The Dodge Challenger is treading forward of the Ford Mustang by almost all of 2021.

Ford and Chevrolet Know They Are Losing To Dodge

For any one that looks at the numbers, Dodge has moved ahead. The Dodge Challenger muscle car has sold exactly 44,142 vehicles a bit ahead of the Mustang’s 41,065 vehicles purchased. Not only is Dodge moving ahead of the Chevrolet Camaro as well, which only has sold 15,084 vehicles in 2021.  The Dodge brand hit a top spot on J. D. Power’s Initial Quality Study for the second-year-in-a-row. As far as the new Dodge EV, we are still not assured if the nameplate will be a Challenger, Charger, or something else remains concealed. Aside from this vehicle, the new Stellantis plant will manufacture batteries for Stellantis factories established throughout the region for EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles. 

“Today’s announcement is further proof that we are deploying our aggressive electrification road map and are following through on the commitments we made during our EV Day event,” said Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.

The parent company of Dodge, Stellantis, will only issue quarterly sales results through each year, but we are certain the Camaro won’t finish in first, second, or third place as the rival brand has only sold 15,084 Camaro vehicles so far in 2021. The Chevy brand has sold 24,748 total mid-engine Corvette C8 vehicles, but even combined, these two vehicles don’t help the Chevrolet brand top the muscle car market led by the Challenger sales. This doesn’t even include the Charger muscle car. The new Dodge muscle lineup is as strong as its even been with the brand earning high marks from critics and customers alike. The Dodge brand recently earned a top spot on J. D. Power’s Initial Quality Study for the second-year-in-a-row.

Dodge is revitalizing an older nameplate in the Dodge Hornet. This vehicle will join the currently short list of Dodge vehicles. The Dodge brand arrived with a Dodge Hornet concept that was shown off in 2006, but it never debuted. 2006 was the same year the Dodge Charger was reintroduced to the world. The 2006 Hornet concept was produced with hopes to see the prototype turn into a production vehicle in 2008 with the Challenger. Dodge at that time was about to start with a big push in the European markets and aspired to thrust the Hornet by 2010. The platform of the Hornet would end up being the same one applied to the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. This was something that hindered the Dodge Hornet, as Alfa Romeo’s new CEO, previously of Peugeot, new expectations of enhanced performance from the Tonale’s PHEV drivetrain. As of April, Automotive News reports, Stellantis aimed to commence Tonale production in March 2022 and start sales on June 4 of 2022. This would indicate that the Dodge Hornet’s arrival could be in around the same time frame. In a story written by Passione Auto Italiane, the most current Dodge vehicles are expected to be produced alongside the forthcoming Alfa Romeo Tonale at the Pomigliano D’Arco plant in Italy. We are always looking ahead to what Dodge will provide customers next, but the new era of Dodge vehicles is coming sooner than later; starting with the Dodge Hornet we hope.

Likelihood of the Dodge Hornet
