FCA To Invest $4.5 Billion In Michigan Plants

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is ramping up production plans in Michigan with a phenomenal $4.5 billion investment. The purpose for the investment is thanks to the two upcoming Jeep vehicles set to debut in early 2021. The first Jeep vehicle, a 3-row full-size SUV and the return of the Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. FCA knows all too well about the success of the Jeep brand in 2018 and they have wisely invested in extending the brand with an upcoming all-new pickup, named the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, and have started on creating the resurrection of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. We’re excited to share all the details for this expansion of the Jeep line-up and future FCA plans.

How Will the Money Be Spent?

The creation of nearly 6,500 jobs is expected along with the construction of a brand new production plant in Detriot, Michigan. The $4.5 billion will also be used to expand up to five facilities currently running in Michigan. About a third of the investment, approximately $1.6 billion will be used to convert the Mack Avenue Engine Complex in Detroit to a manufacturing site for the upcoming next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. This huge task will add 3,850 jobs.

“The move would increase capacity to meet the growing demand for its Jeep and Ram brands, including the production of two new Jeep-branded white space products, as well as electrified models,” according to a statement by FCA.

More Utilization of Funds

This large program will provide $1.5 billion of funds to help the Warren Truck Plant be able to ramp up production of the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, as well as the assembly Ram 1500 Classic. This move is expected to bring 1,400 new jobs. Exactly $900 million will go into the Jefferson North Assembly Plant to help bring new and modern equipment to produce the next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee and the current Dodge Durango, adding another 1,100 new jobs. All of these assembly sites are expected to create plug-in hybrid versions of their respective Jeep vehicles. FCA expects to have new fully battery-electric models in the near future. A total of $405 million will be used to support further production at the Sterling Stamping and Warren Stamping planets with over 80 new jobs to be made at the Sterlign Heights plant.

New Production Placement For Trusted FCA Engine

One of the most popular FCA engines, the Pentastar 3.6-Liter V6 powertrain, will be relocated to the Dundee, Michigan plant. Moving from the Mack 1 plant in Detroit will cost $119 million and should not affect the current employee and production team at the Trenton Engine Plant. Both of those plants work specifically on the legendary engine that can be found in many Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler, and Ram vehicles today. Speaking on behalf of FCA, CEO Mike Manley had this to say about all the upcoming changes and additional funding given to the Michigan plants.

“Three years ago, FCA set a course to grow our profitability based on the strength of the Jeep and Ram brands by realigning our U.S. manufacturing operations. Today’s announcement represents the next step in that strategy. It allows Jeep to enter two white-space segments that offer significant margin opportunities and will enable new electrified Jeep products, including at least four plug-in hybrid vehicles and the flexibility to produce fully battery-electric vehicles,” FCA CEO Mike Manley.

Dodge Has Big Electric Plans

As the plans are made for what steps the automotive industry will take to build safer, more modern and more fuel-efficient vehicles, many brands are determining how to make this possible why staying true to their name. Followers and fans of the Dodge brand wonder how this can happen while still pushing the envelope for innovation and power. Rival brands like Ford have plans to debut a brand new Mustang Hybrid in 2020 and General Motors has its electric division working on an all-new electric version of their Camaro muscle car.

So what does Dodge have planned? They’ve taken a considerable look at how to integrate new technologies at every aspect of making their vehicles; that’s how they engineered vehicles that perform the way they do. Be prepared for an electrical component to their upcoming signature vehicles in the next decade.

Electric Future of Dodge

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Dodge are not making any secrets about where they plan on taking their muscle cars in the future. Speaking candidly about where they are and the plans in the next five years toward making the push for a hybrid or electric power being added to Dodge vehicles, Mike Manley, CEO of FCA spoke about where he sees Dodge headed.

“What it isn’t going to be is a V8 supercharged, 700-horsepower engine. The reality is those platforms and the technology we use does need to move on. What’s important is what does the concept of American muscle look like in 2024? Does American muscle look like a big V8, supercharged, 700-horsepower, fire-breathing machine, or really is it for Dodge that combination of that incredible power-to-weight ratio, but now because new technology’s going to drive a load of weight out, we can think about the powertrains in a different way and we can use electrification to really supplement those vehicles going forward?” Manley said.

No Gas Engines?

While there will be significant upgrades to the powertrains of Dodge vehicles going forward, there is no chance they will remove the gasoline engines altogether any time soon. Manley did not express exactly what those electrification plans would be, but there’s a sense the current 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye might be the last vehicle hitting near the 800 horsepower threshold. Only one production muscle car made by Dodge went higher than that, but everyone knows what vehicle that is. It’s the same vehicle that helped the Redeye become as fast and powerful as it is.

Charger, Challenger Still Doing Extremely Well

Despite the current climate of new mild-hybrid vehicles and hybrids hitting the roads, the American muscle car is stronger than ever. Despite the Mustang and Camaro not doing as well, Dodge can’t say the same. The sales numbers for Dodge were excellent in 2018. While we can’t be sure the specifics yet of where Dodge will go with electric vehicle integration, we do know that the latest crop of Dodge muscle cars, like the 2019 Dodge Charger.

Dodge is celebrating its latest award win with their 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat being named MotorWeek’s Drivers’ Choice award. For any person who has driven or even been inside of a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, they can attest to the wonderful performance, speed and power that the Challenger has always embodied. Of course, that’s exactly what makes the all-new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye so attractive to consumers.

With the limits of maximum horsepower in a muscle car being pushed every year, Dodge has been awarded for their efforts to provide the customers with the best muscle cars on the planet. MotorWeek‘s Drivers’ Choice Award was for “Best Performance Car” and that is exactly the embodiment of Dodge. Pure performance and sleek design carry the Dodge muscle car lineup, most notably the new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye.

Race With the Redeye

No other production vehicle comes out of the gate as fast as the 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. The reason for the speed is thanks to the supercharged 6.2-Liter V8 engine that produces 797 horsepower with 707 lb-ft of torque. Unbelievable performance includes 0-60 mph acceleration in just 3.4 seconds, a quarter-mile time of merely 10.8 seconds at 131 mph, and a considerably wicked top speed of 203 mph, even faster speed than the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon in the same amount of time. Parts of the illustrious Dodge SRT Demon made its way into the Hellcat Redeye to make it so remarkable. While Dodge is looking to find ways to add electric power to enhance their muscle cars, currently this is not the case for the Dodge Challenger.

What Makes the Redeye Stand Out?

Aside from its lighting fast speed, the muscle car is built like few vehicles ever. In fact, it is built like only one vehicle; the SRT Demon. The all-new 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye added the Demon’s Torque Reserve, pistons, high-speed connecting rods, and valvetrain. The same Dodge engineering team helped make the latest carnation of the Challenger. With all these parts making up the SRT Hellcat Redeye, there are no other vehicles that compare to the newest muscle car on the block built by Dodge today. (The Dodge SRT Demon is already out of production after its lone year and 3,300 total vehicles produced.)

“It’s awesome to know the muscle car spirit of the Demon lives on in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye,” said John Davis, creator and host of MotorWeek, television’s longest running automotive magazine show.

So, what is the starting price of the SRT Redeye? Drivers can get their hands on the SRT Redeye for $71,045 MSRP (plus destination fee). We’re excited to mention that newest Dodge Challenger, the phenomenal SRT Hellcat Redeye is available at Miami Lakes Automall.

2020 Dodge Charger Set To Have First Ever Widebody Trims

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has new plans for the shape of the upcoming 2020 Dodge Charger. The latest details include finally providing customers with a widebody version for the 2020 Dodge Charger. While Dodge has stated they do not comment on vehicles that aren’t announced, they have no comment, there’s always a way for details to arrive before the official launch. Everyone is clamoring for news regarding their favorite vehicles around this time of year as the new year always brings chatter and speculation. This year is no different, with news being released right before the longest running auto show in Chicago in February (2019). Ready to know how the widebody will be added to the Dodge Charger?

Insider Information Has Leaked

Mopar Insiders have said the 2020 Dodge Charger is set to feature a very different appearance for both their front and rear fascias. It’s known that the widebody treatment can only come with new sheet metal added. The 2019 dual-snorkel grille is set to be redesigned for the sheet metal to be added to accommodate the wider fenders. There are also claims the 2020 Charger Widebody will carry the same hood that is currently used on the Charger Hellcat. The side sills are supposed to be redesigned to accommodate the widebody version. The report by Mopar Insiders also suggests the Charger Widebody is set to ride on 305/35ZR20 Pirelli tires, the same tires that are on the Challenger Widebody.

Multiple Charger Widebody Trims?

The Charger will always look powerful, it’s a muscle sedan that feels smooth when driving and carries the prestige of top-level craftsmanship. So how would a widebody addition help? There hasn’t been a widebody for the Charger, only the Dodge Challenger muscle car. Not only will this be special for Charger fans, but customers also won’t have to pay for the higher trim Hellcat model just to drive away with a Charger Widebody.

It is rumored that the Scat Pack trim will have the widebody feature available. This is huge for those consumers that are looking to save some money and still drive the Charger Widebody.

If there isn’t more news set to come out of the Chicago Auto Show, the 2019 New York Auto Show in April will most likely prove more insight. As Dodge remains mum on any news, we’ll hold our ear to the ground. However, to drive the latest Dodge muscle cars, check out all the new Dodge vehicles awaiting a test-drive at Miami Lakes Automall.
