What We Won’t Miss About Staying Home for the Holidays

Miami Lakes Auto Holiday Travel

The holidays are coming up, and everyone is going to have a food baby by the New Year. Some of us are going out of town, some of us are staying in. Those of us hosting don’t have it easy. We make all the food, including the sides, invited others to make it a potluck, but you can’t rely on that, so we also made some deserts. Yeah, those of us spending the holidays at home have it tough, but you know what we’ll never miss? Being on the road during the holiday rush.

Traffic

Hahaha, oh those traveling for the holidays will surely hit traffic anywhere and everywhere. Flying a few days early? That airport terminal is going to be busier than usual. Flying the night before? Better get some sleep on the plane, because the next day will be busy for at least twelve hours.

Then there’s everyone on the road. The traffic is jam packed with everyone traveling to their final destination. Unless leaving early morning, it’s gonna be a heck of a drive to make it there in time for dinner. And come nightfall, we need a driver that hasn’t had too much to drink.

Miami Lakes Auto Uconnect 4 Next-Gen

Drivers who own a 2017 Chrysler 300, 2017 Chrysler Pacifica, or 2017 Dodge Challenger or Charger model have probably already noticed that their vehicle features the new Uconnect 8.4 system that was upgraded in 2017. For the 2018 model year, FCA is taking that a step further. Many 2018 model year FCA vehicles will be upgraded with Uconnect 4, which is the next-generation of infotainment systems. Uconnect is the infotainment system used by many FCA vehicles, and today we’re going to look at the capabilities of 8.4 and the new generation Uconnect 4.

Uconnect 8.4/NAV

Many FCA models have Uconnect 8.4 or Uconnect 8.4 NAV. Like the basic Uconnect 5.0, Uconnect 8.4 has access to AM/FM radio,  a media hub for mobile device integration to make hands-free calls or stream audio via Bluetooth. However, Uconnect 8.4 comes with HD Radio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and recently, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support on some vehicles. Uconnect 8.4 is accessed via an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Uconnect 8.4 may also come with a “Do Not Disturb” setting to automatically route incoming calls to voicemail and suppress text messages to help drivers keep their attention on the drive and without being distracted. With voice-command signals, Uconnect 8.4 may also have Siri® Eyes Free, a feature that can respond to natural language commands to make and receive calls, play music, dictate and send text messages and emails, and receive turn-by-turn directions. Users may also customize the layout of Uconnect 8.4 with a drag-and-drop menu bar, similar to hand-gestures on smartphones.

Miami Lakes Auto Mopar HellCrate Kit

The automotive world is staying busy with all of the things debuting at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) in Las Vegas, and that includes those of us at Miami Lakes Automall, because one of our biggest partners debuted a pretty cool new system. At this year’s SEMA, Mopar decided to get in on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon game by designing a Demon Crate of their own – the Mopar “Hellcrate.”

The Mopar “Hellcrate“ is a  6.2-liter supercharged Crate HEMI® Engine Kit that gives a vehicle the same 707-horsepower engine found on the Dodge SRT Hellcat models. The Mopar “Hellcrate” is the first factory-backed engine kit that produces up to 707 horsepower. The kit itself is a collection of components chosen and designed to add horsepower and torque to an already installed engine. It includes a powertrain control module (PCM), power distribution center, engine wiring harness, chassis harness, accelerator pedal, ground jumper, oxygen sensors, charge air temperature sensors, and fuel pump control module for the 6.2-liter supercharged Crate HEMI Engine kit.
