Chrysler 300 Ups Its Game With New Package Options

Fiat Chrysler aims to keep its 300 model in the limelight by providing new color, price and package options. Since sales for this Chrysler vehicle have bottomed out at 29,213 U.S. deliveries in the last year, some critics are saying that its time to put the model into retirement. In spite of this, Chrysler is sending a message that there’s still some fight left in the ol’roaster and apparently thinks that its disappointing loss isn’t a good enough reason for the automaker to abolish the age-old tradition of trying to entice a few more customers with new upholstery and different badging styles; both of which will be available for purchase this year, along with the required paint updates.

Chrysler’s sedan also sees price increases nearly widespread. Some will barely notice the difference in most rear-drive trims, while all-wheel-drive models add on an additional $250-370 against last year’s pricing.

For those looking for the biggest discounts, it may help in trying to find holdovers from the 2019 model year.

It was reported by Mopar Insiders about Chrysler’s new Sport Appearance Package, and since then, it has emerged on the brand’s website for an added $1,495. It includes the black 300S grille, 20×8-inch Black Noise Aluminum Wheels black headlamp bezels, darker badging and some black intensification on the exterior. If you don’t like black, there is a similarly priced chrome appearance package that is the polar opposite.

Furthermore, the 300 model is supposed to get a Red S Appearance Package that accessorizes with all the darkened bits from the Sport Appearance Pack (with a red insert on the Chrysler logo) and makes way for an exceptional Red Radar interior. It has not yet been established on Chrysler’s website yet, which indicates that the company may be saving it for later in the year when the rest of the new paint colors are released.

The color Frostbite, which is already offered on Dodge’s Challenger and Charger, has been included in the 300’s central lineup of colors for this year. It is an attractive, teal Sapphire type of shade, which is available now, but it doesn’t come at a premium. It will be succeeded by colors (later in availability) Amethyst and Canyon Sunset, which both aid in giving the model a paint listing that brings the nostalgia of the late 1990s. Maximum Steel and Ceramic Metallic will both be done away for this year, but you can still get the 300 in Silver Mist and Granite Crystal Metallic. According to Mopar Insiders, the new red interior will be congruent with all paint options with the exception of Frostbite and cost has an added price of $300.

Surprisingly, the FCA has already shown photos of the new content, so now it’s certain its in the works. If you’re set on getting the Red S Appearance Package you should check with your dealer. The price for the 2020 Chrysler model has a starting price of $29,590, (plus destination fee) with the finest-trimmed 300 C entering at $41,995 (not including options).

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica Shows Off

FCA Showcase

The 2021 Chrysler Pacifica is known for being a family-friendly vehicle but it’s so much more than that, its advanced technology is also quite a show-stopper, especially when it comes to Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

With most car companies, new features first are set to appear on top of the lineup in luxury vehicles but FCA rebelled against that movement by giving growing families the opportunity to use an assortment of gadgets throughout its minivan platform.

FCA previously used the Pacifica to present increased electrification effectiveness as the industry’s first plug-in hybrid minivan, while simultaneously becoming a testing area for self-driving systems with its collaboration with Waymo.

Next year’s Pacifica, expected to release in the second quarter, will be packed with driver-assist technologies and will also serve as the springboard for FCA’s 5th generation Uconnect information platform. It’s really stepped its game up in terms of safety by offering what FCA describes as an “industry-leading” 97 standard features.

FCA’s strong push for innovation in its minivan may stem from a feeling of influence that the automaker feels when it paved the way for other vehicles when it came out with the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager in the early ’80s.

“For the last 37 years, we have been innovating in that segment,” said Tim Kuniskis, FCA’s head of passenger cars, during a media preview of the Pacifica for last month’s Chicago auto show.

The company has had “116 firsts — 116 innovations — that we came up within that 37 years,” Kuniskis said, “which helped us sell 15 million minivans during that time period. We have a pretty decent idea [of] what this customer is looking for. But also, after selling 15 million, we’ve got a nice tool chest of all kinds of content to help these people make their lives easier.”

The FCA believes that with Pacifica it can draw around 700,000 people who make the switch from cars to utility vehicles last year for the “perception of more safety” that expands in size and capability

“They can make more of that segment because they know that there is not necessarily 20 competitors that they’re competing with,” Jessica Caldwell, executive director of insights for Edmunds, told Automotive News. “So if they do a really good job in execution, they could capture a bigger part of the market — and I imagine that the heritage that they have in the segment is also important to them.”

A New Type of  Convenience

Chrysler is certainly responsible for turning minivans into homes on wheels, but over time their particular division has had a regression. Contrary to this, according to Karl Brauer, executive publisher of Kelley Blue Book and Autotrader, their popularity could rebound as the autonomous era takes hold. “The vans are going to get more important as time goes forward and we get more and more interested in autonomous, and [there’s] more and more interest in moving people around in urban areas in comfort [with] potentially less personal car ownership,” Brauer said.

Waymo has equipped hybrid Pacificas with its autonomous-tech and released them in various programs. As an example, in Phoenix, Arizona, Waymo has been operating a shuttle service and also announced delivery programs for AutoNation and UPS.

As for the collaboration with UPS, in January, Waymo said that Pacificas will transport packages from UPS stores in the Phoenix area to a hub in Tempe.

In October, AutoNation revealed a course of action with a Toyota dealership that it runs in Tempe. An employee will be able to request a Pacifica hybrid via an app and send parts to a repair shop in the minivan.

Making Corny Cool

Brauer says that this new phase of autonomous utility will eliminate one of the drawbacks of minivans, which is the image. “The main reason they don’t sell better right now is because a lot of people don’t want to be seen as a minivan person.” said Brauer  “But if someone doesn’t own the vehicle and uses it as a tool, he said, that dynamic disappears. It “doesn’t reflect on my personal coolness factor, if that’s what you want to call it, at all to be seen in a minivan because this is just a functional way to move me around New York City.”

Brauer continued to say that Chrysler is smart to continue to invest in the segment and promote its minivans as cutting-edge vehicles that feature forward-thinking technology because they are probably going to inherit a more important role once the autonomous technology and the autonomous world arrives.

FCA is Looking to Buy Electric Vehicle Platforms

Miami Lakes AutoMall Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) rumor mill is heating up again. This time, the talk of the town is that FCA is looking to invest in electrification. It’s no secret that FCA is one of the automakers with the least electrification in its lineup, something that poses a danger to the automotive giant as emissions regulations are slated to tighten across the globe. Experts agree that FCA finds itself in the “light-on-electrification” side of things, although the automaker has somewhat invested in mild-hybrids and plug-ins — with several on the way! Now it appears that FCA is looking to commit to electrification innovation for good, and is likely searching for partners in its search for fully electric powertrains. Read the rest of this entry >>

The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica is an obvious choice. However, when Dodge decided to put a 475hp 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine under the hood, it changed everything.

The 2019 Dodge Durango SRT can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds and run a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. It also has its share of entertainment features which will satisfy the passengers. It has the Uconnect 4C with navigation on an 8.4-inch touchscreen display with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto and HD Radio. Chrysler Legendary Automotive Executive Lee Iacocca Has Passed Away

Lee Iacocca, the legendary automotive executive, who is known for saving Chrysler from bankruptcy in the 1980s, passed away July 2 at the age of 94. With a career of more than 30 years under his belt, Iacocca helped to launch some of Detroit’s best-selling vehicles, which include the minivan, the Ford Mustang, the Escort and the Chrysler K-cars. Iacocca also spoke out against what he considered was an unfair trade practice by the Japanese automakers.

During the peak of his popularity, which was in the ’80s, he was known for his TV ads and the catchy tagline: “If you can find a better car, buy it!” Iacocca wrote two best-selling books and was courted as a presidential candidate. One of his books is ‘Where Have All The Leaders Gone?’ which was published in 2007.

In 1979, Chrysler was $5 billion in debt. The reason behind the debt was that it had bloated the manufacturing system and “it was turning out gas-guzzlers that the public didn’t want,” according to foxbusiness.com. However, he had a plan when banks turned him down, Iacocca and the United Auto Workers union helped to persuade the government to approve $1.5 billion in loan guarantees that kept the No. 3 domestic automaker afloat.

Iacocca closed or consolidated 20 plants, laid off thousands of workers and introduced new cars. In TV commercials, he admitted Chrysler’s mistakes. However, he insisted that the company had changed. Iacocca introduced the minivan and created a new market.

Iacocca’s fame first came from the debut of the Mustang in 1964. He convinced his superiors that Ford needed an affordable, stylish coupe to take advantage of the growing youth market. On April 17, 1964, Lee Iacocca and Henry Ford II unveiled the Ford Mustang at the New York World’s Fair.

In 1970, Iacocca was named Ford president. Iacocca immediately undertook a re-establishing to cut costs as the company continued to struggle with the foreign competition and the rising gas prices. “Lee Iacocca was truly bigger than life, and he left an indelible mark on Ford, the auto industry and our country,” said Bill Ford, Chairman of Ford Motor upon Iacocca’s passing. Lee played a central role in the creation of Mustang. On a personal note, I will always appreciate how encouraging he was to me at the beginning of my career.  He was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.”

New Chrysler Pacifica May Be An All-Wheel-Drive

There was a rumor that the Chrysler Pacifica was preparing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant. It will add a huge benefit in the minivan segment as the Toyota Sienna is currently the only competitor that offers an all-wheel-drive. An AWD option could help improve Pacifica’s popularity.

It wouldn’t be the first time the Pacifica will get an AWD option, but there hasn’t been a lot of news on it. An all-wheel-drive vehicle may be the vehicle that many living in inclement weather, such as ice and snow, are waiting on. The Pacifica could soon be the go-to vehicle for those wanting a minivan and an all-wheel-drive.

The strong sales in Canada drive the high demand on the Pacifica offering AWD. Offering AWD can help Chrysler gain more sales in colder regions of the United States as well. The popular SUVs account for more than 30 percent of new vehicle sales.

It’s believed that the next-generation Chrysler Pacifica can be announced within the next two months. If it comes out within that time-frame, it would be sooner than it was expected. The 2018 Pacifica is still relatively new, having launched for the 2017 model year and after the Dodge Grand Caravan, it is currently the second best-selling minivan in America.

Chrysler could decide to go all out with the vehicle design. It could develop a new plug-in hybrid powertrain to coexist with the AWD variant. It can also switch to an entirely new architecture allowing for an AWD powerplant.

The Pacifica AWD production is expected to start in the second quarter of 2020, according to data organized from industry sources obtained by Automotive News. The timing couldn’t be at a better time as it matches the launch of a potential new-generation Pacifica. If the new minivan makes an appearance before the end of 2019, it makes sense for three to six months after that to be put into production.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) could also inaugurate an SUV based on the platform of the Pacifica. As stated, nothing has been announced yet. Former FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, said “the platform is ready, and the plant can take it” so the automaker can “probably get it up and running in 18 months.”

PACIFICA AS A POSSIBLE CONTENDER:

A possible contender might be an alternative in the Chrysler Pacifica. Chrysler has mentioned that the Pacifica “could support” the all-wheel-drive option. Although, it did not initially roll out an all-wheel-drive.

Current reports have been advocating that the all-wheel-drive Pacifica has been called off. So, don’t hold your breath. Chrysler U.S. brand director Bruce Vasilek said they were open to the idea, but plans have been put away at the moment.

Vasilek said that Chrysler would “continue to monitor AWD vans and will consider it in the future,” in regards to the Pacifica. For now, FCA sources have said that the minivan will stay as a front-wheel drive. The Pacifica platform will probably serve as the support for the next-generation Chrysler 300.

Chrysler excavated the all-wheel-drive when they introduced the Stow ‘n Go seating option in its vans. What Stow n’ Go seating allows is for the second and third-row seats to fold flat into a storage compartment on the floor. Stow ‘n Go won’t work if a driveshaft is added to the Pacifica.

BENEFITS OF ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE:

So how exactly does an all-wheel-drive differ from a four-wheel-drive? A four-wheel-drive will stay in rear-wheel drive mode until it’s physically shifted to the four-wheel mode. The all-wheel-drive is associated more with car-based platforms like crossover and minivans, while the four-wheel-drive is typically found in trucks.

Chrysler also wanted to introduce a three-row crossover based on the Pacifica platform, but there hasn’t been any information on it. After its discussion many years ago, the long-rumored new model which was to offer the all-wheel-drive, hasn’t come to fruition. Although Chrysler has a five0year outlook set in place, Marchionne, announced in the summer of 2018, that the company had not laid out a road map for Chrysler brand’s future product plans yet.

DO WE NEED AN ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE MINIVAN?:

Product Planning Director for the Chrysler Group, Todd Breneiser, said that Chrysler’s minivan owners aren’t shrieking for an all-wheel-drive. “There’s a vocal minority that would really like to have the all-wheel-drive, and that’s in the same parts of the country where we see the high take rates for other all-wheel-drive vehicles, but for the general population, I wouldn’t say it’s in high demand,” Breneiser said in a telephone interview with cars.com.

Minivans are well equipped to handle large amounts of snow with a front-wheel-drive. An all-wheel-drive isn’t always a must especially if winter tires can improve traction. One thing is for sure, an all-wheel-drive Pacifica might be a game-changer.

FIAT Is Merging with Renault. That’s The Rumor Anyway.

There are talks of Renault merging with Fiat Chrysler. France’s Renault SA intends on restarting the conversation with Japan’s Nissan Motor Co Ltd within 12 months, which will set sight on a bid to buy Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, according to the financialtimes.com. This plan signals the return to the previous strategy which was supported by former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn.

Although the French government had opposed the move, the recent formation of a new alliance board led by Renault Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard has led many to believe that the two parties can now go ahead with the merger plans, according to financialtimesreport.com. Fiat is seeking a partnership and the company is talking with rivals for a deal, the report has stated. Renault and Nissan are also anticipated to revamp their boards, with Nissan adding the majority of outside directors and Renault reducing its board’s size.

As for the recent creation of the new alliance board led by Renault chairman Jean-Dominique Senard, it has enhanced confidence that merger plans can advance, according to people familiar with both sides. When combined, both companies would then pursue a further purchase that would bulk up the business. With the business going bigger it’s a fair chance for a fight for global dominance with the likes of Toyota and Volkswagen.

The proposal for the merging has been in talks for the last two to three years but with the government coming in the way, it never went into fruition. FCA has been actively seeking a merger, with chairman John Elkann and meeting with other rivals, including France’s PSA, in order to see how a potential deal can strengthen the carmaker. It’s a possibility that FCA will successfully have merged with another group by the time Nissan and Renault sort out their differences.

Nissan and Renault are ready to sort out any rough patches in the two automaker’s current alliance. Nothing has been set but it is reported that talks about merging will begin in the next year. The two companies are looking to have another automaker to create a larger automotive powerhouse: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Keep in mind that although Renault is reportedly interested in buying FCA, it doesn’t mean that Peugeot is no longer interested in buying FCA. Should FCA want to sell, it’ll probably get more than one bidder in an auction-style corporate sale process. Peugeot is a French automotive manufacturer, part of Groupe PSA.

The Financial Times reported that a merged Renault-Nissan would make a bid for FCA, which has sought out cooperation among other automakers for years. As for better profitability, the late FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne was candidly open about his desire to merge the automaker. The merge has been a possibility for the last three years.

Before his death, Marchionne transformed Fiat Chrysler’s Tenure. In over 14 years as the head of what’s now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, Marchionne transformed a European carmaker into a global giant. Here are a few things he has accomplished over the years.

In June of 2004, Marchionne was appointed CEO of Fiat and with it, his plan was started by his predecessor to end years of losses, and soon announced plans to revamp Fiat’s organization to make it more efficient. In February of 2005, Marchionne extracted over $2 billion from General Motors to finish a debate over the ownership of their joint venture and announced the plan to terminate other alliances with the U.S. carmaker. In June of 2009, Fiat takes ownership of Chrysler assets, pledging to reopen factories idled during its bankruptcy.

Mike Manley, the new FCA chief executive, still believes in Mr. Marchionne’s thesis that carmaker’s need to combine. “How you get scale is a challenge that everyone is facing,” he told the Financial Times at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. “That’s why you’re seeing so much interest in partnerships and mergers.”

If this is sounding familiar, it’s because it’s been a topic of conversation for some time already. First, The Wall Street Journal announced PSA Group’s fleeting interest in FCA. And then the Financial Times’ reported Renault’s interest in a full-blown merger with Nissan, something that Ghosn has been trying to do.
