Blockchain network

Tuesday, December 10, 2019,  Fiat Chrysler Automobiles revealed that it has joined the Responsible Sourcing Blockchain Network (RSBN), an industry alliance that uses blockchain technology to support ecological, responsible sourcing and production methods from mine to market.

The RSBN is on course to become operational on a commercial standpoint by the Spring of 2020.

The ability to trace and map raw materials is vital in order to significantly reduce practices that are unethical and threaten the future for the communities in which the raw materials are sourced.

“Our commitment to the responsible procurement of raw materials is vital to the integrity and sustainability of our supply chain, especially as our electrification strategy ramps up,” said Carl Smiley, Chief Purchasing and Supply Chain Officer, FCA. “Embarking on this journey together with technology and industry leaders will propel our ability to have visibility into artisanal and small-scale mines, allowing us to better manage the social and environmental impacts of our business.”

By 2022, the FCA plans on launching more than 30 electrified nameplates. The consortium will aid in having a responsible supply chain of cobalt, which is used in lithium-ion batteries that power electric vehicles.

RSBN will build an open, industry-wide blockchain platform to trace minerals in a responsible manner from its source. The RCS Global assesses each participating entity responsible for sourcing requirements set by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and industry bodies. Ford Motor Company, Volkswagen Group, Volvo, LG Chem and Huayou Cobalt are participants in the RSBN.

“We are hugely excited that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, one of the world’s leading auto manufacturers, has joined the RSBN. With this move, FCA signals its intent to robustly address the issue of responsible sourcing in its supply chain and we look forward to working with them to achieve this,” said Dr. Nicholas Garrett, CEO, RCS Global Group. “The RSBN is expanding rapidly, connecting actors throughout the battery supply chain and beyond, all of whom have a focus on proving good practice in responsible sourcing and production.”

United Nations and OCED 5 Step Framework

To add on, efforts to become more sustainable align with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which seek to tackle global issues, specifically those dealing with poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice.

The OECD 5-Step Framework for Upstream and Downstream Supply Chains is also used and taught to suppliers. This framework gives a common and foundational tool in order to aid in solidifying responsible sourcing practices and decisions made throughout the supply chain. Suppliers and their sub-suppliers are required by Chrysler to abide by applicable global laws and regulations.

MLAM Fiat Chrysler Makes Merging Moves With French Automaker

Fiat Chrysler’s Big Move

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is moving forward with its merger with French auto company PSA Group. According to an internal document detailed by the Wall Street Journal, about 50 people are working to finalize a 50/50 deal.

Despite dealing with a federal racketeering lawsuit filed by competitor General Motors, the FCA and PSA Group (which makes Peugeot) are still continuing with the merger.

In a joint statement, the boards of Fiat Chrysler, Peugeot, and PSA agreed towards a binding agreement in the coming weeks. The reason behind this is that the agreement would create the fourth-largest automaker with a combined market value of about $50 billion.

This merge would create a regional force to be reckoned with, challenging Volkswagen AG. The collaboration would bring together the Italian billionaire Agnelli family and the French Peugeot family as the act of merging sweeps through an industry trying to finance major transformation.

Last week in a message obtained by The Journal, FCA and PSA Group informed their employees that the two sides were working toward a  memorandum of understanding. The message defined a memorandum of understanding as “the formal document that signals the willingness of both companies to work together to create a 50/50 merger.”

Doug Ostermann, FCA executive, and Oliver Bourges, PSA executive are leading the respective negotiating teams. The deal is expected to be settled by the end of 2020.

According to The Journal, a daily newspaper in West Virginia, Unions representing PSA employees have signaled support for the deal.

Current Obstacles

Saturday, The United Auto Workers and FCA reached an unsettled agreement on a new four-year contract, which includes a total of $9 billion in investments but still needs final consent from workers.

Due to a matter which started at FCA, involving bribery and embezzlement, an ongoing investigation might leave the merge somewhat affected. Many workers at the company have become quite cynical due to the union’s leadership since the scandal became public in 2017.

Union President Gary Jones, whose home was raided by federal agents, resigned in November, leaving Vice President Roby Gamble in charge.

According to a union spokesperson, on a unanimous decision, Gamble was confirmed by the UAW’s International Executive Board. Prior to this, Gamble spent 12 years as regional director at the union before being elected to vice president. Additionally, he was commissioned to lead the union’s Ford Department just last year.

Upon recent weeks, Gamble has vowed to move swiftly in order to restore credibility to the union, which represents more than 400,000 members. He plans on doing this by implementing ethics and other reforms. “It was an honor to complete my career and serve the members in this great union,” said Gamble. He also made reference to the difficult circumstances that led to his appointment.

It worth noting that Jones has not been charged.

The Future of the Chrysler 300

The Chrysler 300 is not going anywhere contrary to what sources have to say. It was rumored that the vehicle was going to be a thing of the past and its last remains will be seen in 2020. Even with SUV’s rising in popularity, Chrysler believes that the Chrysler 300 can still be saved.

If Chrysler was willing to say goodbye to the 300, what was supposed to take its place? Well, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) was not going with a new sedan, that’s for sure. Instead, they were going to introduce an electric minivan called “The Postal,” a production version of a previous concept with the same name. It was first introduced at the 2017 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

The 300 was expected to use FCA’s Giorgio rear- and all-wheel drive architecture. However, things changed in 2016, when FCA’s then CEO Sergio Marchionne stated that “the replacement model might instead share the architecture of the Pacifica and be produced alongside the big minivan at Windsor in Ontario,” according to The company hasn’t stated whether or not it will replace the 300 or any other LX platform vehicle.

As time progressed, this led to rumors that Brampton, where all of Chrysler and Dodge’s big RWD/AWD sedans and coupes are manufactured, could be closed. It was thought that any successors might still be RWD/ AWD and instead, will use the Giorgio platform and be built in Mexico at Toluca. In October 2016 it was announced of a plan to give Brampton a new paint shop which appeared to increase the chances of this factory being used for a new generation of big rear-drive Dodge cars, according to

But the excitement seemed to come to a halt a month later when speaking to analysts on the topic of FCA’s third-quarter financials, Marchionne didn’t mention the Chrysler 300 having an RWD/ AWD successor: “The important thing for us was to preserve the uniqueness of the rear-wheel-drive offering that we have across four brands: Alfa, Maserati, Dodge and, potentially Jeep. And that solution has been nailed down internally by focusing on the Giorgio architecture”.

Two options can be considered for the evolution of the 300. Option one is an evolution of the existing model’s platform, and option two is to switch the model to a front-wheel-drive architecture and make it on the same line as the Pacifica. That won’t be a necessity if the Ontario factory gets the rumored Chrysler Aspen, a front- and all-wheel drive crossover.

As a reminder, FCA is not saying goodbye to the Chrysler 300. When it comes to sales, Steve Beahm, head of parts and service (MOPAR), assured that “it’s doing great.” “We like where it’s positioned; it provides great value. It’s a lot of car for the money.”

There are two options to choose from for engines: a 292-horsepower V6 or a 363-horsepower V8. Both engines get the job done, and the V6 has more than enough power for the average joe to drive. The Chrysler sedan gets 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with its V6 engine.

As for space, the 300 gives passengers plenty of room. Seating surfaces are wrapped with leather, while a nickel-finish analog clock and blacked-out interior accents highlight the performance-focused cabin. Buyers will have up-to-date security and driver assistance technology is available, but it requires optional packages to deliver full safety features.

The 2019 Chrysler 300 has a starting MSRP of $29,220 (plus destination fee).

There have been thoughts that perhaps FCA wants to give the Chrysler brand more crossovers. Whatever the case may be, we are unlikely to see any 300 successors until the 2021 model year. You can search our inventory of Chrysler 300 at Miami Lakes Automall. Make sure to stop by for a test drive and see if this model and make is the car for you.

How Chrysler Changed the Minivan Game

It should come as no surprise that the success of the Chrysler Pacifica lead to Chrysler having ideas about how to expand their widely popular minivan. Ideas were floating around about enhancing the vehicle with further upgrades and amenities. They only needed to keep pushing the boundaries of what customers wanted.

Families had already fallen in love with all the great features, like the popular Stow ‘n Go seating and the Uconnect system, that were added to the Chrysler Pacifica. After the Pacifica’s debut, the Chrysler brand saw sales of nearly 63,000 vehicles sold in the first year. Competing with the likes of the Honda Odyssey, Dodge Grand Caravan and the Kia Sedona was only going to get harder with more time on the market.

Popularity fades for vehicles and their shelf life is only as good as the speed at which new features and benefits can be added. Luckily for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the auto group that encompasses Chrysler and many other brands, their forward thinking and innovation continued. The idea to not stop producing quality products didn’t end with the popular Pacifica model. For a brand like Chrysler that only has two vehicles being sold, the Chrysler 300 and Chrysler Pacifica, there was a need to find something special.

Rather than craft a new vehicle altogether, Chrysler went a different route. The entire minivan market was missing one large ingredient in its segment. The hybrid minivan. And Chrysler changed the game with the release of their new flagship Pacifica plug-in hybrid. Thus becoming the first hybrid minivan ever made in America.

Success Strikes Again

Chrysler has been around for nearly one hundred years thanks to innovation and a commitment to excellence. Most recently, Waymo, a company that produces autonomous technology for vehicles, agreed to purchase 63,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid models. The hope is to develop completely human-less driving, aka autonomous, in a retail vehicle capacity. Imagine buying a car you never drive; that’s the goal Waymo is working to develop and make a reality.

If you’re looking for how the future will look like, it starts with vehicles as popular and powerful as the current Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and extends to the remarkable technology that companies like Waymo are putting into an already innovative minivan. The future of driving will change a lot once these products hit the road. But what does that mean for Chrysler?

What Does the Future Hold For Chrysler?

Most recently, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne announced plans to grow other brands under the umbrella that FCA produces. With the focus on expanding other brands like Jeep and Ram, Chrysler hasn’t gotten the same news. Luckily for Chrysler fans, the innovation tied to the brand has kept this company popular since 1925, the first year Chrysler went into business.

The founder of the company, Walter Chrysler, would be proud of the latest and greatest minivan on the market today. The hybrid powertrain provides drivers up to 33 miles of battery life driving before switching to gasoline in the revised, powerful 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine. This allows the Chrysler Pacifica to stand out among all the rest of the crop in the minivan market.

Remarkably, the best part about this ingenious idea to craft a hybrid minivan was making charging easy and fast. With a 240-volt charger, the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid can be fully charged in about two whole hours. If you want to use a regular outlet to charge your Pacifica Hybrid, just leave it charging overnight and you’ll be good to go.

FCA’s Future Plans Look Bright for Jeep and Ram

Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA) has been riding some recent highs to start this summer along with upcoming plans to announce a new CEO. News just broke about Wayco, a company that helps create autonomous vehicles, purchasing 62,000 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans with the hope of having retail autonomous vehicles by 2023. Not only has their choice for their autonomous vehicle, the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica a smart choice, critics and fans agree.

The Chrysler Pacifica has been awarded many accolades this year, like winning’s “Family Car of the Year” award for the second year in a row, but other brands under the FCA umbrella have seen surges of sales increase from last year to this year, such as the Jeep brand.

 The Next CEO of FCA

FCA’s CEO Sergio Marchionne is set to retire after this year and the next CEO has not been announced. Speculation has pointed to a few names that could serve as Marchionne’s replacement. Mike Manley has been with the company since 2000 first serving as a director in the United Kingdom, he then became CEO of the Jeep brand in 2009, then moved to become CEO of Ram in 2015. This move would make the most sense as both brands are popular and expected to continue to grow apart of the FCA umbrella.

Alfredo Altavilla, current Chief Operating Officer for Europe, Africa and Middle East and a head of business development for FCA, has been another contender to take over as FCA CEO. Having been with the company since 1990, he’s been able to witness the expansion over into multiple European markets and has the ear of Marchionne.

The final name in contention to become the next CEO is current Chief Financial Officer of Systems and Castings, Richard Palmer. He’s been linked to Marchionne as someone trusted and knowledgeable to handle the role. Palmer has been with FCA since 2003, first joining the company after leaving as CFO of robotics manufacturer Comau. There’s only rumors as to who will succeed the current CEO, but the future for FCA is up for grabs for these candidates.

Marchionne’s run as CEO started when Chrysler was dealing with financial complications and Fiat wasn’t doing as well as it is today. With the auto industry changing, FCA will look to continue expanding their brands with a fresh approach to car building, adding to the already incredible legacy that their combined flagship brands hold. From Jeep to Chrysler to Ram, Dodge and Fiat, there’s been consistent growth since the great financial recession of the previous decade.

New Changes Coming For FCA Brands

Most recently, Marchionne announced a plan to create and grow the mid-size pickup for the Ram brand, while decreasing the size of the Fiat lineup. Ram wants to significantly upgrade the technology of their existing heavy-duty lineup. Fiat has new plans to have a fully electric lineup in their 500 family vehicles.

3.6-Liter Pentastar Engine + The FCA Models That Have It

Chrysler Group Pentastar V-6 with VVT

Every vehicle that is equipped with a 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine is backed with a strong, durable engine. Trusted enough to be placed into many vehicles produced by FCA, let’s go over the various vehicles that contain this uniquely powerful 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine.

The biggest reason for the success of the 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine is impeccable craftsmanship and brilliant engineering. As a strong V6 engine that generates up to 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, the 3.6-Liter Pentastar was first introduced in 2011 and still running strong, the engine’s open deck design with an intake air system allows for increased air flow.

Which Vehicles Use the Powerful Pentastar?

You can find this remarkable engine in numerous new 2018 vehicles and recently released 2019 models, like the 2019 Ram 1500. The new 2019 Ram 1500 is available with the 3.6-Liter Pentastar V6 engine, which now features Ram’s new mild-hybrid system that provides a boost in off-the-line power. With standard TorqueFlight eight-speed transmission, this is one vehicle that has made fans of many drivers around the world and will continue to impress thanks in large part to the powertrain.

Dodge Vehicles Carry The Pentastar

Dodge knows the 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine is a wonderful engine and as a result, it is the base engine for many of their 2018 and 2019 models. We’ll go over all of the various vehicles that supply this uniquely strong powertrain.

The latest and powerful 2018 Dodge Durango is an SUV that supplies drivers with a strong towing capacity of 6,200 pounds and can carry 7 passengers easily all thanks to the strength of the 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine. Something unique about the 3.6L engine on the Dodge Durango is the variable valve lift system with new fuel injectors and new ignition coils. These parts are tied to the variable valve timing system that helps reduce internal friction and lower the weight of the engine to provide better gas mileage and efficiency.

Dodge has placed the Pentastar engine in the 2018 Dodge Charger, setting up drivers for steady performance with every ride. The 2018 Dodge Challenger also carries the 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine as the standard base model engine. Plenty of FCA vehicles use the 3.6-Liter Pentastar as their main or top-tier engine, but for the Dodge Charger and Challenger, it’s only their base engine. There’s some wicked powerful engines in the Dodge muscle line-up and the Pentastar is one of them.

Other FCA Vehicles With the Pentastar

One vehicle that comes complete is the 2018 Chrysler 300, which every model includes the 3.6-Liter Pentastar, unless drivers opt for the 5.7-Liter V8 engine option. The 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine has been apart of this vehicle since 2011, along with the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. Chrysler, making a name for itself for being a brand that ties elegance with a price that makes their vehicles just as accessible as they are iconic. Both of these Chrysler vehicles carry the upgraded Pentastar engine that’s used in the aforementioned Dodge Durango.

The 3.6L engine can also be found in the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. Jeep is known for adventure and both the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler JL have the amenities to make off road traveling a possibility. The 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine makes both vehicles reliable in a variety of settings.

The History of Chrysler

The history of Chrysler dates back nearly a hundred years. On June 6, 1925 in Michigan, Walter Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation from what was left of the Maxwell Motor Company. The company manufactured a vehicle simply called the Chrysler. The 1924 Chrysler was a 6-cylinder automobile and it was generally viewed as a well made product that was also affordable. This was a truly smart move to separate itself as a brand capable of giving the public a technologically advanced vehicle with an attractive price (less than $2,000) making an instant wave of buyers choose Chrysler selling 32,00 units in a single year.

In 1928, Chrysler bought the Dodge Brothers, a successful automotive group, and the company continued growing from there. Walter Chrysler was named Time magazine’s Man of the Year in 1928. The iconic vehicles and attention on brand grew with each year and continued with the creation of the Chrysler Building, a 77 story building made in New York City that served as the highest building in the world for a years at the time of completion.

Chrysler Innovation lead to the 1934 Chrysler Airflow, the first vehicle built in Detroit with the use of a wind tunnel. Walter Chrysler died in 1940, but his company was still growing into one of the most successful brands in the world. By the mid-1950s Chrysler announced the first production electronic fuel injection as an option.

The 1960s saw the boom of American muscle vehicles as Chrysler had its own muscle vehicle take center stage with the 1968 Plymouth Road Runner that Richard Petty, one of NASCAR’s biggest icons, drove to win the 1970 Nascar Championship. Lee Iacocca took over as president and helped reinvent the brand and helped Chrysler rise to prominence after Chrysler experienced some rough sale years. In 1984, Chrysler introduced the first minivan to the public and transformed the auto industry with this key addition to the automotive market. Lee Iaccoca was chairman of the board of the Chrysler Corporation from 1979 to 1992.

In more recent times, the iconic Chrysler 300C was introduced in 2000 as well as the successful PT Cruiser, which was produced for 11 years. In 2015, the all-new Chrysler 200 was introduced as well as the slogan, “America’s Import,” which was a reminder that Chrysler makes their vehicles in America.

Chrysler was founded on the ideal that class would meet a higher standard of vehicle, both in the interior and under the hood. There’s a good chance you’ve seen Chrysler as exactly that; an elegant vehicle that you don’t view as a grossly expensive with out of reach pricing.

How Far Has Chrysler Come?

Take a look at the 2018 Chrysler 300. There’s something about entering this vehicle that owners love and appreciate every time. A bold performance sedan that was crafted without compromise, the Chrysler 300 has standard premium bucket seating, and an available 363-horsepower 5.7-Liter HEMI V8 engine that has a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The vehicle also has an innovative infotainment system called Uconnect that helps makes it possible for users to integrate their smartphone with their built-in infotainment system.

The best minivans on the market, the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, has placed Chrysler atop the competition with an innovative, modern interior and high tech features inside and out to make your experience easy. The new 2018 Chrysler Pacifica was named as the “Family Car of the Year” by for the second year-in-a-row and in 2017 it was the Highest in Initial Quality in the minivan segment of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. These aren’t just facts, these are reasons to experience how Chrysler keeps rewarding customers with vehicles that stand out.

The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid provides a 33-mile electric range as a fuel-efficient plug-in hybrid, the only one of its kind in the minivan market today. Beginning at an affordable price of $39,995 MSRP (plus destination fee) and providing seating for up to 7 people, this is a vehicle that makes every road trip easy and day-to-day traveling a breeze with integrated Uconnect Voice Command, Bluetooth streaming audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Big Cost Savings with the Pacifica Hybrid

chrysler pacifica hybrid fuel costs savings miami lakes chrysler

When it comes to a family-friendly, budget-friendly and eco-friendly minivan, the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is perfect choice that hits all the right notes. It was the Highest Ranked Minivan in the 2017 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and its earned a number of other accolades since its release in 2017. It is also a seven-passenger vehicle that offers exceptional savings while lowering fuel costs due to its electric-only option.

Fuel Cost Savings

Drivers of the Chrysler Pacifica will definitely see savings in fuel costs in comparison to any other minivan on the market.

Electric and Hybrid Fuel Economy

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the most fuel efficient minivan on the market, so it is the most affordable when it comes to fuel costs. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid can be driven on pure electricity for up to 33 miles (that also means it releases zero tailpipe emissions for all 33 miles) and it has a combined city/highway hybrid fuel economy of 84 MPGe.

Gas Fuel Economy

Even when the Pacifica Hybrid is only powered by its internal combustion engine, it has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 32 MPG, which is great in comparison to all other minivans on the market. In fact, the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna have a combined city/highway fuel economy of 22 MPG and the Kia Sedona and Dodge Grand Caravan have a combined city/highway fuel economy of 20 MPG, so the Pacifica Hybrid offers drivers a better combined city/highway fuel economy by 10-12 MPG in comparison to other minivan options, and that’s a pretty significant difference.

Fuel Costs

The fuel savings are best understood when it comes down to money. According to, the average driver will spend about $950 in fuel costs per year driving the Pacifica Hybrid, and that’s $750 less than the annual fuel cost of the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna and $950 less than the annual fuel cost of the Kia Sedona and Dodge Grand Caravan.
