For the past few years, the Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica have been going at it in the race to prove who’s truly the star of the minivan segment. Let’s see how these two match up for the 2023 model year.

Engine Options, Capability, And Tow Ratings

There are two powertrain options for the Chrysler Pacifica. The first is the 3.6-liter V6 motor, producing 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. With the help of the optional all-wheel-drive (AWD) system, the 9-speed automatic transmission gives life to either the front wheels (FWD) or all four (4WD).

The second choice is the Pacifica Hybrid, which merges a V6 engine with two electric motors, a battery pack, and a hybrid-specific engine. This configuration produces up to 260 horsepower. As a substitute for the standard automatic transmission, the PHEV (plug-in electric vehicle) has an electric continuously variable transmission.

The Honda Odyssey only has one engine option, a 3.5-liter V6 motor. This lone wolf produces 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The 10-speed automatic transmission utilizes its FWD system.

The tow rating of the 2023 Odyssey minivan is 3,500 lbs, while the Pacifica fair slightly better with 3,600 lbs.

Infotainment And Tech

Since its inception, the 2023 Pacifica has been known to come out swinging with its standard features. Starting with the 10.1-inch touchscreen display, operated by the new Uconnect 5 infotainment system. The Uconnect 5 includes dual-phone connectivity, Amazon Alexa virtual assistant functionality, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration. Its navigation system also stays up to the minute with over-the-air updates derived from TomTom.

Moreover, passengers can stream content through Amazon Fire TV for Auto owing to dual 10.1-inch rear monitors that are included in the available Uconnect Theater package.

Both minivans have a Blu-ray player, a 115-volt outlet (150 watts), and HDMI ports.

Which Minivan Comes Out On Top?

The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Still Has New Tricks

The 2023 Chrysler Pacifica has reached its seventh anniversary for its latest generation, a year past when a vehicle would get a total revamp. Regardless, this minivan has been so well crafted that it remains a top competitor in its segment, both in gasoline and especially in hybrid form.

The newest Pacifica receives a new Road Tripper package for this upcoming year. The Chrysler Pacifica’s base engine s a 3.6-liter V6 with an output of 287 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. It’s matched to a 9-speed automatic transmission. All models pair up with front-wheel-drive (FWD) or all-wheel-drive (AWD). The EPA-estimated fuel economy comes out to 19 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, 22 mpg combined with FWD, and 17/25/20 mpg with AWD.

The Hybrid minivan is a plug-in vehicle. Plug-ins like this have a large battery pack that can produce 32 miles of fully-electric range. All one needs to do is refresh the range is plug it into a charging station, likely by an at-home charger. Ultimately, using both electric motors and a 3.6-liter V6 allows it to achieve an EPA-estimated 30 mpg in combined driving.
