2018 Chrysler 300 v. Buick LaCrosse

2016 Chrysler 300S Alloy Edition

Driving a full-size luxury car that has plenty of space and modern technology can make all the difference in how you feel when you get in your car and how you feel when you get after your car once you have arrived at your destination. Two excellent full-size luxury cars are the Chrysler 300 and Buick LaCrosse, but what’s unique about them is they are two of the more affordable options in their class. If all that sounds good to you but your want to know which model would be a better buy for you, take a look at the comparison below.

The Chrysler 300 and Buick LaCrosse are both available with two engine options, and two of those options are fairly similar, but the other two are very different. Both the Chrysler 300 and Buick LaCrosse are available with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, and the engine in each model produces fairly similar horsepower and fuel economy. The 3.6L engine in the Buick LaCrosse generates 310 horsepower and averages 24 mpg combined/city highway and the 3.6L engine in the Chrysler 300 produces 292 horsepower and averages 23 mpg combined city/highway.

The other engine available on the Chrysler 300 is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. This engine is a great option for drivers that want a full-size luxury car that can perform a little more like a sports sedan. The 5.7-liter HEMI engine produces 363 horsepower, so drivers will never have to worry about getting up to speed when entering the highway.

The other engine option on the Buick LaCrosse is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist light, meaning the engine receives some help from a battery. The 2.5L engine produces 194 horsepower, so buyers that are interested in a powerful luxury sedan are going to want to go with the Chrysler 300.

Interior Space

When it comes to full-size luxury sedans, the one feature that consumers are most concerned with is size — and the Chrysler 300 is the winner when it comes to passenger space and trunk space! The Buick LaCrosse and Chrysler 300 both offer front seat passengers almost the same amount of legroom – (42 inches in the Buick LaCrosse and 41.8 inches in the Chrysler 300),  but the Chrysler 300 offers back seat passengers 41 inches of legroom, which is 3.1 inches more than backseat passengers have in the Buick LaCrosse (Buick LaCrosse offers 38 inches of legroom in the backseat). Additionally, the Buick LaCrosse’s trunk offers buyers 14.3 cubic-feet of space, and the Chrysler 300 offers 16.3 cubic-feet of space, which can make a big difference when trying to fit an odd-sized object in the trunk.

Other Features

Both vehicles have modern tech features, but the Chrysler 300 does have a slight edge over the Buick LaCrosse. The Chrysler 300 is equipped with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect 4.0, which is FCA’s proprietary infotainment system, a rearview backup camera, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Buick LaCrosse is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and OnStar.

There is quite a difference between both features when comparing their exterior design. The Chrysler 300 has a sleek, modern and sophisticated design. The LaCrosse’s exterior design is is a little more traditional looking than other full-size luxury sedans on the market.

Chrysler Adding to Entertainment Features in Chrysler Pacifica

The Chrysler Pacifica is the best minivan on the market because it has it all. There’s not one feature the Chrysler Pacifica is missing. It has a huge cabin that can accomodate seven to eight passengers, excellent seat configuration qualities and best of yet, it has a phenomenal set of available entertainment features, which can make the difference between a boring car ride or a fun car ride.

Apple Music

FCA and Apple just partnered up to offer a free year long subscription to Apple Music to buyers of any FCA brand vehicle that features Apple CarPlay, which is a majority of FCA vehicles. The yearlong subscription provides users access to more than 42,000,000 songs for FREE, as well as a number of curated playlists. In addition to the playlists included with Apple Music, FCA also created some special playlists inspired by the drivers and characteristics of FCA vehicles. Here’s a look at the playlists inspired by Chrysler:

Chrysler Playlists:

  • Kid Jams 4 The Fam: A new spin on children’s tunes that’ll bring out the kid in you
  • Carpool Sanity: Chill music for morning madness
  • Adult Ears Only: May contain grown-up words
  • Date Night: No Kids. All Romance.

UConnect Theater Package

The most advanced entertainment feature offered in the Chrysler Pacifica, and perhaps even the entire minivan segment, is the available Uconnect Theater Package. The Uconnect Theater Package provides two dual 10.1-inch screens that are located on the backs of the headrests of the front seats. The screens have USB and HDMI hookups and Bluetooth streaming capabilities, so they can play a variety of content. For example, if you aren’t too keen about letting TV entertain your kids at all times, there are a number of apps and educational programs that can be accessed. But the unique part about the Uconnect Theater Package is that the programs playing on the screens can be streamed through wireless headphones, which makes it possible for other people in the vehicle to listen to the radio rather than what’s playing on the screen.

Excellent Fuel Savings of the Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid

While the Chrysler Pacifica has some competition in the SUV and minivan segments, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid’s unique powertrain makes it a leader in fuel economy and versatility in both the SUV and minivan segments.

In 2017, Chrysler replaced the brand’s beloved minivan, the Chrysler Town & Country, with the new Chrysler Pacifica and a PHEV variant, the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is the first minivan available with a plug-in hybrid electric powertrain, so not only does it offer consumers a large versatile space that accommodates people and/or cargo, it also has an excellent fuel economy, which is a rare find in a vehicle that’s as big as the Pacifica Hybrid.

Interior cargo space is typically the one non-negotiable factor for people who are shopping for a vehicle as large as a minivan or a full-size SUV. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid offers spacious seating for seven passengers, and it provides more legroom for second- and third-row passengers than most 7-passenger SUVs on the market. There is up to 39 inches of legroom in the second-row seats and 36.5 inches of legroom in the third-row seats.

Not only is the van spacious, but users can easily adjust the cabin layout to meet their needs. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is equipped with third-row Stow ‘n Go seating, so the third-row seats can easily be folded away to create a large space behind the second-row seats. The third-row seats are 60/40 split-folding seats so its possible for a user to fold down all three seats, two of the seats or only one of the seats.

Fuel Economy

The fuel economy of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is unmatched by any other vehicle that is as large as the Pacifica. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid can be powered in a number of ways.

The minivan can travel up to 33 miles on pure electricity, so if a driver doesn’t have long distances to travel at once, it is definitely possible for a driver to do all or a majority of their driving powered by electricity, which is also 33 miles where no emissions are eliminated. When the Chrysler Pacifica is powered by pure electricity, estimates that the cost to drive 25 miles is $1.30, which is dirt cheap compared to the cost of a large vehicle to travel 25 miles.

The best part about the Pacifica Hybrid is that it offers drivers solutions. Sure, driving on electricity is great for the environment and it reduces fuel costs, but that’s not always ideal, so the Pacifica Hybrid is equipped with a gas-powered engine, too. The gas-powered engine is a more fuel efficient modified version of the 3.6-liter V6 engine that is found in the Chrysler Pacifica. When the Pacifica Hybrid is only powered by its gas engine, it has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 32 mpg, again, still better than any other large passenger vehicle on the market.

Finally, the Chrysler Pacifica can be powered in hybrid mode, which is a combination of the gas-engine and battery-powered electric motors working together. When the Pacifica Hybrid is operating in hybrid mode it has a combined fuel economy of 84 MPGe, and a total driving range of 566 miles.
