Fuel efficiency is one of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a new car – regardless of gas prices. Why? Fuel efficient vehicles save drivers money, emit less emissions and increases energy sustainability. Fortunately, there are some exceptional large SUVs that have a great fuel economy and are available at the Miami Lakes Automall.
The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is a perfect example of a fuel efficient SUV with its combined gas-electric engine. Fuel economy combined with gas-electric and city/highway is 84 MPGe and 32 MPG running solely on regular gas. According to fueleconomy.gov, drivers save $2,250 in fuel costs over 5 years compared to the average new vehicle. Furthermore, drivers of the Pacifica Hybrid don’t emit nearly as many greenhouse gases as other vehicles – its an average 106 grams per mile when it uses the gas engine or a combination of both and it emits zero emissions when in pure electric mode.
The 2018 Kia Niro PHEV (plug-in hybrid) is the latest hybrid model offered by Kia. Making its debut at the LA Auto Show in 2017, the Kia Niro PHEV can travel 26 miles when powered by its battery and it can go 560 miles with a fully charged battery and a full tank of gas. In comparison to the non-plug-in version of the Niro, battery life in the Niro PHEV is 7.3 kWh larger. The 44.5kW electric motor is paired with a 4-cylinder 1.6-liter engine with an MPGe rating of 105.
“The Niro Plug-in is the exciting next step in Kia’s progression toward offering more alternative fuel vehicles by 2020,” said Orth Hedrick, Vice President of Product Planning for Kia Motors America. “Consumers who are intrigued by the Niro hybrid’s fantastic versatility and design, but want even more EcoDynamics technology and the ability to drive only using electric power, will find more to love in the Niro Plug-in Hybrid.”
Finally, Mitsubishi Motors is bringing the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to the U.S. The Outlander PHEV offers a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a generator to charge the 12 kWh battery that gives power to the front wheels as well as a 60 kWh electric motor that gives power to the rear wheels. In as little as 30 minutes, the Outlander PHEV’s battery can charge to 80 percent when the DC Quick Charger is used or the battery can reach a full charge in less than four hours using the 240-volt charger. Just like the Pacifica Hybrid and Kia Niro PHEV, the Outlander PHEV will initially operate on strictly electric mode and then kick in the gas engine as energy begins to deplete.
While there is no official word on when the Kia Niro PHEV will launch in the U.S. the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will be available in January 2018.
