GM’s New Pickups Beat Competitors on Efficiency – Miami Lakes Automall Chevrolet

September 3rd, 2014 by

Chevy dealers in Miami will soon have even more value to offer their customers. General Motors announced that its two new midsize pickup trucks, the Colorado and the Canyon, will feature better fuel efficiency than some of its top competitors. Meanwhile, Chevrolet dealerships across the country prepared for demand on the new pickups by ordering nearly 30,000 units in August.

GM said that the Colorado and Canyon will both be rated for 18 miles per gallon in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, for a combined rating of 21 mpg. Both trucks features a 3.6-liter, V-6 engine with 305 horse power.

The rating is for the two-wheel drive model. Those who are interested in four-wheel drive will lose 1 mpg in the city and 2 mpg on the highway. The combined rating for the four-wheel drive model is 20 mpg.

The Colorado and Canyon beat out many of their rivals for fuel efficiency. For example, the two-wheel drive Toyota Tacoma gets 17 mpg city and 21 mpg highway, or a combined 19 mpg. The two-wheel drive version of the Nissan Frontier gets 16 mpg city and 22 mpg highway. Its combined rating is 18 mpg.

The Colorado and Canyon also beat out the Dodge Ram (17/25/20) and Ford F-150 (16/22/18). They even beat out the fuel efficiency on Chevy’s own full-size Silverado.

General Motors wasn’t content to rest on its laurels though. The company is moving forward with plans to develop a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine, which will get even better fuel efficiency. The engine is slated to debut in the 2016 Colorado and Canyon, and it is expected to get about 30 mpg on the highway.

Even without the diesel engine, excitement is brewing over the new Colorado and Canyon. GM said that dealerships have already ordered more than five times the number of units it expected to send out. It’s unclear what buyers will do when the trucks arrive later this fall, but the confidence dealerships are showing in these models is telling. Prices have not yet been announced for either model.

Chevy has already launched a configurator for the Colorado, but GMC has yet to announce plans for the Canyon.

This year is going to be an exciting time to shop Chevy dealers in Miami. Head down to Miami Lakes Chevrolet this fall to learn more about the Colorado or any of the other quality Chevy vehicles.
