The Chevrolet Silverado HD has been named J.D. Power’s Most Dependable Model for 2019. Chevrolet, among Lexus and Buick, has been ranked in the top 5 vehicle dependability. It secured the most dependable sizeable heavy-duty pickup category.
This year, the study showed a 4 percent increase on overall dependability for three-year-old models. But there is something that J.D. Power vice president of global automotive Dave Sargent believes will make any brand a contender for more customers. That is valuing customer’s demands and preferences.
The Chevrolet Silverado HD is the heavy-duty truck that pushes the boundaries when it comes to capability while still offering comfort, high-tech interior for a connected and fun driving experience. Not to worry if you have an older Silverado HD model, it’s just the 2019 version boasts the latest amenities and technologies. Here are some of the features it delivers.
There are three engine options available for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD. Included is a 6.0-liter Vortec V8 that either has gasoline or LPG/CNG and the third option is a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax diesel. The 6.0-liter Vortec V8 produces 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque when running on gasoline and it is also FlexFuel E85-capable.
All models come with an all-wheel drive or selectable driving modes that you can choose at the time of purchase. There are plug-in hybrids and full-electric powertrains available, as well as non-hybrid vehicles. The 2019 Silverado 2500 HD uses a six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode and Auto Grade Braking to minimize the amount of braking needed while towing or driving downhill.
As for the interior, the Silverado HD comes equipped with noise-dampening cabin materials. The triple-sealed doors ensure for a quiet ride with passengers. When it comes to driving there are adjustable pedals, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and generally good view for an excellent driving position.
There will be no problem if you or your friends are tall, broad – or both- and passengers will fit with no problem in the truck. It’s big on the outside, so there’s space for up to five people on the inside. You can add leather-appointed front seats with a heated and ventilated function to any package.
Chevrolet Silverado HD has a front 40/20/40 split-bench cloth seats which are standard on LT Trim and heated seats are available. Also available are remote keyless entries, steering wheel audio controls, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability is also standard on all trims.
As for technology, there are steering wheel controls to answer phone calls, and you can manage the available Chevrolet Infotainment System with a 7-inch or open 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen display and operate cruise control. Also available are USB ports and 110-volt power outlet, the wireless charging pad for compatible smartphones, and the myChevrolet Mobile App. The technology available for newbies in towing is a Tow Hookup Checklist, A Backup Camera with Hitch View, Trailer Light Test, Hill-Hold Assist and Electro-Hydraulic Braking.
Safety technologies included are Tow/Haul Mode, Hill Start Assist, Digital Steering Assist, and StabiliTrak with Trailer Sway Control. The Diesel Exhaust Brake is an available technology that “uses engine compression to reduce the amount of conventional braking needed while towing or traveling downhill,” according to chevrolet.com. The integrated trailer brake controller features seamlessly integrate with trailer brakes during normal braking and with Trailer Sway Control.
Other safety features are auto grade braking which assists with braking on long downhill grades by initiating transmission downshifts. Silverado uses 4-wheel disc brakes with Duralife Rotors, which help to prevent warping and provide corrosion resistance to help extend rotor life. All 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD models come with six standard airbags.

Chevrolet is looking to wow customers with their new 2020 Silverado HD pickup the new Chevy HD is impressively strong with a maximum towing capacity of 35,500 pounds. That number reflects a vast 52 percent increase from the previous-generation Silverado HD and is 400 pounds more than the largest Ram HD pickup available today (the Cummins diesel version). Owners will have the choice of five trim options (Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ and High Country with a remarkable 22 cab, bed chassis and driveline configurations.
They Can Build It To Be Stronger, Faster and Better
Chevrolet has invested heavily in making its new HD massive. Expected to be taller, and broader, with a lengthened wheelbase of 5.2 inches for Crew Cab models. In fact, the overall length of the Crew Cab with a standard bed is nearly a foot longer than the previous truck, and it’s almost 2 inches taller. For those interested, there’s plenty inside that has been upgraded to make the Chevrolet HD stand above the competition. Chevy has plenty to say about their products, including the newest 2020 Silverado HD line being built in Flint, Michigan.
“We set out to make the best HD trucks on the market, bar none. We increased towing capabilities across the line, not just for dually buyers. We added class-leading towing technologies, such as 15 available camera views1, to make trailering more convenient, whether pulling a large cargo trailer or a fifth-wheel camper. And we made a host of changes to make tasks easier,” said Jaclyn McQuaid, chief engineer, Silverado HD.
What Is Expected Inside and Out?
What is expected inside? Chevrolet has mentioned every component from the transmission to the wheels are new and upgraded. What has been enhanced? Owners will notice the suspension has improved, made to handle the extra load. The rear axle is enhanced with an 11.5-inch ring gear for 2500HD models and a 12-inch ring gear for 3500HD diesel trucks. There are new larger-diameter prop shafts and the cooling system is upgraded to mitigate heat. A new Allison 10-speed automatic transmission to swap cogs has been added.
Managing that maximum tow rating demands a precise rig choice; a regular cab 2020 Silverado HD with two-wheel drive and dual rear wheels at the back. The required engine for that monumental task is the unmatched 6.6-Liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 powertrain. This massive engine is producing the same 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque with direct injection. That’s more power than you get from rival brands like Ram, though Ford hasn’t released figures for its refreshed upcoming Super Duty.
Drivers can link up their trailer easier than ever before thanks to 15 cameras as part of the in-vehicle trailering system. Electronic trailering apps are being developed to allow for considerable functionality to those towing large RV trailers. Helpful features like auto park brake assist, grade hold help, trailer sway control, and integrated trailer brake control provides hands-on towing assistance. As for passengers, they will enjoy a bit more legroom thanks to a modest three-inch overall increase in interior space.

The Chevrolet design team is listening to what their customers want. The team took into consideration and put into action, the earlier feedback they received and their customers made one message loud and clear. Make a heavy duty truck that looks very different from a light-duty; make its appearance convey power and capability, as a heavy-duty truck should be.
The 2020 Silverado HD sketches, unveiled at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show (Feb. 9-18, 2019), showed a few new specs of what the 2020 Silverado model will have. For one, it will be available in five trim levels- Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country – across 22 cab, bed, chassis and driveline configurations. Like their GMC Sierra HD siblings, it will also have the choices of two new powertrains.
The choice of having two new powertrains will give a new direct-injected gas engine with a 6-speed automatic or the turbo-diesel engine that is mated to a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. The diesel engine is listed at 910 lb-ft of torque, which is the same as the current L5P 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo-diesel. Other unique features include the new towing mirrors, LED roof-mounted heavy duty marker lights, and a handy bed-step on the side.
INCHES & DIMENSIONS:
The standard engine is a new 6.6- liter gasoline V-8 with direct injection making 401 hp and 464 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. According to autonews.com, “that is an 11 percent increase in horsepower and a 22 percent increase in peak torque, respectively, resulting in 18 percent more towing capability –17,400 pounds — according to GM. It replaces a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 that delivered 360 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque”.
However, something to consider is that the all-new 6.6- liter gasoline V8 engine, in the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD, will not utilize active or dynamic cylinder deactivation, according to gmauthority.com. The report also states that the new direct-injected heavy duty V8 engine will not offer an automatic engine start/stop either. But not to worry.
There’s also another optional engine costumers can choose. The 6.6-liter diesel V-8 rated at 445 hp and 910 pound-feet of torque coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Allison. The 2020 Silverado HD, according to GM, is 10.4 inches longer than the outgoing truck, 1.4 inches wider and 1.6 inches taller.
WHERE WILL THE ENGINES BE BUILT?:
The Duramax diesel engine will be built at its jointly operated DMAX facility in Moraine, Ohio. The 10-speed transmission will be produced at GM’s Toledo Transmission plant in Ohio. The 6.6-liter gas engine and six-speed transmission will be produced at the automaker’s Tonawanda Engine plant in Buffalo, N.Y.
TAKE A CLOSER LOOK:
From what has been shown of the teaser image, the new 2020 Silverado HD has a Z71 badge on the grille. That badge defines that the Silverado will be a proper off-road truck on offer, straight from the factory. Z71 optioned trucks make for great adventures, as they are great at getting to remote trailheads.
The front grille of the Silverado HD looks to be highly influenced by the 2019 Silverado 1500 Work truck lineup. Goodbye, famous Chevy Bowtie. That is now replaced with “Chevrolet” stamped promptly across the grille.
The lettering is also cut out, which allows more air to cool the engine. And you might find similarities with the 2019 Silverado HD. This setup is similar to the “Flowtie,” which was introduced on the 2018 Camaro ZL1 and carried over to the 2019 Silverado (4500/5500/6500) HD trucks.

Chevrolet is thankful for the success of their all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. General Motors had an ace up its sleeve with their line-up of diesel model Silverados, their highly popular and awarded pickup. The good news is there’s more technology being added. In June, the latest refresh from the all-new 2019 Silverado is set to debut. The Silverado HD heavy-duty truck was already lighter, yet stronger than the previous generation, but Chevy will have their newest heavy-duty, the all-new 2020 Silverado HD, by mid-2019.
Chevrolet has gone even further to gain more with less with even greater fuel-efficiency. Known as simply the 2020 Silverado HD, it is a new product for Chevy. With so much focus on the pickup, they have seen good returns on the Silverado and that success will help fund the research GM has for their self-driving projects. Let’s find out how much Chevrolet has invested.
Outlook For 2019
General Motors (GM) pickup trucks combined for a total of $65 billion in annual revenue with the heavy-duty versions of the Silverado and GMC Sierra making up nearly 20 percent of GM’s full-size truck sales. The revised Silverado HD will have competition in 2019 when Ford’s Super Duty is revamped. With GM’s reported sales hitting 210,000 heavy-duty pickups in 2018, the figure is expected to rise in 2019. As sedan sales have trended downwards, it’s less profitable than previous years for American automakers to make them. The latest trucks have more technology included and are more advanced with better engineering than ever before.
“These vehicles have among the highest margins in the business. You have no tomorrow if you don’t sell these trucks today,” said Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting at LMC Automotive.
Success and Continued Growth
GM reported sales of 210,000 heavy-duty pickups last year as the hope is the upcoming new models will sell even more. GM gains roughly 2 billion dollars through these sales alone before taxes, so the goal going forward is to continue to produce as many new pickups and other light trucks. Despite trucks being more expensive to build, they expect to grow by 1,000 workers to help launch the latest heavy-duty trucks in Flint, Michigan.
General Motors is thrilled that these pickup trucks alone cover the $1 billion a year that the automaker places into its GM Cruise LLC self-driving unit. However, GM Cruise LLC has yet to bring in revenue and has not yet begun its upcoming ride-hailing service, which set to debut in 2019. GM has an investment to solve the difficult problem of arranging a computer to operate a car. This problem is so costly that GM sold a piece of Cruise to SoftBank Vision Fund for $2.25 billion and another portion of the company to Honda Motor Co. for $2.75 billion. But they are looking to create this service to drive revenue even higher. This isn’t the first time they’ve put money into electric technology.
Electric Plans For Chevrolet
Back in 2016 the Chevy Bolt, GM’s latest electric car sold, lost nearly $9,000 per vehicle for the automaker. Chevy will take steps to ensure they don’t have that problem again. By 2022 the global auto industry as a whole will have spent $255 billion on electric vehicles and an additional $61 billion expanding self-drive technology, according to a report last year from consulting firm AlixPartners. There is no plan to sway GM from making electric vehicles, in fact they are doubling down on making new technology for us all to enjoy. Selling their pickups has netted GM over $9 billion annually and the future will showcase their latest innovations. For the latest Chevrolet pickups, head to Miami Lakes Automall today.

Chevrolet is getting closer to revealing their latest pickup. News about this Silverado HD has been coming out bit by bit, but Chevrolet has not given very many details about this upcoming phenomenon. One thing is for sure, there’s going to be a lot of drivers clamoring to drive this all-new Silverado when it arrives. The pickup looks large and lives up to the HD “Heavy-Duty” moniker. The 2020 Silverado HD includes a Duramax turbo diesel V8 engine that gains a new 10-speed automatic gearbox, a new gasoline engine with direct injection and a wider, roomy cabin is also expected for this product.
What Else To Expect
Chevrolet has spent a lot of time and effort strengthening and redefining their brand. While many automakers have tried, few have walked away with something as strong and menacing as what the new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD looks like. The 2020 Silverado HD stands out thanks to an enormous front grille, boldly displaying the Chevrolet bowtie. The chiseled hood features a detailed, chrome-trimmed design and all expectations are this Silverado will contain plenty of power and towing capacity.
“We set out to make a statement with the 2020 Silverado HD and wanted to visually capture the power and capability of the truck. The result is a truck that looks like a piece of heavy machinery with modern, chiseled finishes and customer-focused details,” said Brian Izard, the pickup’s lead exterior designer.
Jeez, it’s only been a few weeks since the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was showcased by the General Motors Corporation. With many trim levels for the 2019 model year and many powertrains, consumers could get a Silverado pickup truck designed for their needs and purposes. Around the same time, the Chevrolet Silverado was voted as “Truck of the Year” by editors and writers from AutoGuide who took the Chevy Silverado for a test drive. Well, Chevrolet must be listening to their consumers, because soon after they unveiled the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD was announced to debut in February 2019.
For those keeping count, this is the third all-new Silverado model from Chevrolet in just 18 months. Being the HD model, not only is it a very capable pickup truck of the lineup, but the 2020 model is said to be the most capable and advanced Silverado HD ever. Just another Silverado model to appeal to the variety of Chevrolet customers…or is it?
Set to be built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, the new Silverado HD will be starting off with a bolder body sculpted for the heavy-duty functionality it gets its name for. Although some may confuse it with the Silverado 1500, aside from the roof, every piece of sheet metal is exclusive to Silverado HD. Built from the ground-up, this assembly plant is going to have a lot of work to meet the standards of Chevrolet and Chevrolet consumers.
Even though the 2019 Chevy Silverado was recently released, Chevrolet hasn’t stopped making headlines with what will come next. In 2019, the next-generation Silverado HD will be released as a 2020 model Chevy Silverado HD. This new Silverado HD is going to be the third all-new truck in the Silverado lineup revealed in just 18 months, along with 2019 Silverado 1500 and the 2019 Silverado 4500/5500/6500HD models. This will be in addition to their already large number of popular Chevy vehicles.
“Chevrolet already fuels the most successful truck manufacturer in the industry,” said Alan Batey, global head of Chevrolet. “With a completely new, expanded range of Silverado models on the horizon, we expect to see even more truck buyers in Chevrolet showrooms.”
The upcoming next-generation Silverado HD was designed with the thought of satisfying the needs of heavy-duty truck customers. The next step is test driving the latest Silverado HD prototypes as they will be tested through Chevrolet’s increased durability and validation standards. More detailed product information will be provided in 2019.
The 2019 Silverado 1500 was introduced in January of this year (2018). The new Silverado 1500 weighs less than the outgoing model (approximately 450 pounds less for crew cab V8 models), and maintains the heritage of strong built Chevrolet full-size pickups. The new Silverado 1500 will offer consumers a wide range of trims, engine and transmission combinations for a wide range of Chevy loyalists.
“Chevrolet has built more than 85 million trucks in 100 years and we have applied that accumulated truck expertise to the new Silverado range,” said Batey. “All three Silverado models offer a wide range of choices, as no two truck customers are alike. Every Silverado is built to be long-lasting and dependable, as many customers need their trucks to earn a living or to do what they enjoy most when they’re off the clock. Finally, every Silverado is built to work. As we know every truck, no matter how luxurious, has a job to do.”
While the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis-cab models were introduced in March 2018, the plans for the future have already been announced. The first-ever Silverado medium-duty trucks were designed specifically for commercial customers, with an emphasis on being easy to drive, easy to upfit and easy to service and they will offer all of that in the 2019 line-up.
2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Among the pick-up trucks out there, there are not many that offer the versatility and reliability like the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 provides. From the base model that provides 5,500 up to 9,400 pounds of towing ability and gets drivers up to 18 city and 24 highway MPG. With a large number of packages and trim levels, there’s plenty to find in the 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500.
