Automakers near and far are slowly making preparations to redevelop their platforms from gasoline-powered vehicles to those that are either fully electric or hybrids. Last week Wednesday, (Oct.6), Chevrolet said that it would introduce the electric version of the Silverado truck at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2022. The event, which is held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the world’s prominent industry trade shows. Mary Barra, GM’s CEO is set to make the full reveal of the pickup in January, but in the meantime, here’s what you should know.
First and foremost, the Silverado will be powered by the brand’s new Ultium battery system. These packs will support the company’s next-generation electric models all across its brands, providing energy storage that range from 50 kilowatt-hours to 200 kWh. GM has said before that these batteries will provide “up to 400 miles or more on a full charge”, which mirrors the figure that the Silverado was given. This gives us reason to believe that the pickup’s battery will be the same size as the electrified Hummer.
The Silverado will be produced at GM’s Factory Zero plant by the side of the Hummer EV and the untitled GMC electric pickup.
Another point of interest is the truck’s glass roof. The Chevrolet company is preparing to revamp their Tahoe and Suburban SUVs for their 2022 model, but don’t worry, they aren’t throwing out the baby with the bath water. Instead, the automaker is simply making their formula more agreeable to a larger crowd, and they’re doing this by making their 6.2-L V8 engine more available. While this motor was previously reserved as the standard engine on the top-ranking High Country trim, and not even an option on the others, it’s now being unlocked on the RST, Z71, and Premier levels. Now more buyers will get to enjoy a thrilling ride with the powertrains output of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.

New Features For 2022
As with many automakers, the Chevrolet company performed a few nips and tucks on their new vehicles, particularly the upcoming Tahoe SUV and its extended Suburban sibling. Judging from Chevrolet’s teaser video, it seems that Silverado ZR2 will keep its rear leaf spring setup, like the Colorado, opposed to employing the arrangement of the F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX.
As for the engine components of the Silverado ZR2, more than likely the regular L87 6.2-liter V-8 that produces a healthy 420 hp and 460 lb-ft will be used, and will still be a worthy competitor against the Ram Rebel’s 5.7-liter.
One should know that the Colorado ZR2 also offers a Duramax turbo diesel option, and if the automaker wants, it can also offer the Silverado ZR2 with that powertrain’s larger sibling: the highly effective Duramax I-6 turbodiesel. Though it only produces 277 horsepower it makes up for it with 460 lb-ft of torque, and also has excellent fuel economy figures.

Three Chevrolet vehicles are losing their entry-level L trims for the 2022 model year, and they are the Traverse, Blazer, and Malibu. It has also been revealed that the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse won’t even have the L trim as an available option, which now makes the LS trim the new base model.
The current 2021 Traverse SUV offers almost all of the same standard features for the L and LS models. The main distinction between the two is that the LS trim has a lot more available options for buyers to choose from. For example, one can bring on either 18-inch or 20-inch gloss wheels, specifically black-painted aluminum wheels, along with a black finish grille and black badging on the exterior. Inward, the Traverse LS also has available cargo nets, floor liners, and packages that you wouldn’t find on the previous base models. It is expected that the LS trim should continue to have all of these aforesaid conveniences available for the upcoming model year.
One con, however, of the 2022 Traverse L’s retirement is that more than likely, the mid-size crossover will now have a higher starting price. The 2021 Traverse L is currently priced at $30,995, (plus destination fee), while the 2021 LS is priced at $34,395, (plus destination fee). It has not yet been confirmed by the automaker whether the starting price of the LS trim will stay the same for the following model year.
The 2022 Chevy Traverse will also get a slightly refashioned design for the exterior, which will encompass modified headlamps and taillamps, a revamped front fascia, and developed grille options. Additionally, buyers will be able to select between Cherry Red Tintcoat, Northsky Blue Metallic, and Silver Sage Metallic for the three new paint colors. This makes up for the fact that Cajun Red Tintcoat, Satin Steel Metallic, and Graphite Metallic will no longer be a part of the color palette.
The Chevrolet Safety Assist package is filled with driver-assistance technologies, which will be standard on all 2022 Traverse models. Our favorite safety features include automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist w/ lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring.

A couple more exciting comforts include the brand’s subscription-based OnStar-connected services with 4G LTE and in-vehicle Wi-Fi, which both come standard.
