The Major Suburban Enhancements For Next Year
The large and hefty Chevrolet Suburban SUV is getting a major makeover for 2021. The revamped model will include new gadgets and gizmos, especially when regarding safety features. It should also have a ride that is much smoother and have more space in its cabin.
New renovation plans will also take into effect with the shorter Chevy Tahoe. In actuality, the Tahoe will have the most to gain from this face-lift, such as extra length and interior space in the interior. Though most buyers will find much joy in the Tahoe, those who have large families will still benefit the most with the Suburban, especially since it has three rows of seats and more cargo space.
Although these upcoming Chevy SUV models will sport new designs, that’s only the surface of the changes that will be made. There will also be the implementation of an independent rear suspension, which is a first for this model. This will not just enhance the overall quality of the ride, but also aids in expanding interior space. Passengers will certainly be spoiled with entertainment features like large flat screens in the second row, meanwhile, the driver enjoys a great selection of driver-assistance features like rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot alert on Premier models.
At one time, the Suburban was battling it out with the full-sized Travelall SUV of the (now-deceased) International Harvester automotive company, which was also considered to be a hybrid of a station wagon and a truck. However, as the brand drew back from the production of light-trucks, the model was discontinued in 1975, and for a while the Suburban got a chance to thrive all by itself in its segment. Eventually, Ford wanted a chance to get into the ring.
By late of the 1990s, Ford introduced the Expedition model, and at some point hitched on Expedition Max, which is a foot longer than the regular Expedition. The Max model received its own beautification a few years ago, and this year will reintroduce the popular King Ranch trim. The main difference between Ford and Chevy are their engines. The Expedition makes use of an Ecoboost turbocharged V6, while the Suburban stays with the classics with its V8 engine.
The Chevrolet Suburban performs well in sales for its segment, and will prove to be a great friend for large families and even those who prioritize vehicles with towing capability. Other highlighting features include its sport utilities, an upscale interior, Premier Edition, and Performance Package, as well as its long list of safety equipment.

At first glance, the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe come across as your automobile version of Mary-Kate and Ashely, which in some ways they are, especially when it comes to their platform, gear, trim levels, and much more. So what makes then fraternal? First, let’s explore a bit more about what makes them similar.
The two 2021 Chevy trucks both tag along with the same GM T1 type of structure, have a new multilink rear suspension and have the same powertrain lineup available, the last-mentioned comes with the 5.3L V8 L84 on lower trims and with 6.2L V8 L87 on higher trims. To get a better understanding of how incredible these engines are, the 5.3L boosts a spirted 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, while the 6.2L pushes an even more energetic and rocket-launching power of 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
The “twins” also give shoppers the option of getting the turbodiesel 3.0L I6 LM2 Duramax. As a standard, all three engines can be paired up with the General Motors 10-speed automatic transmission for both 2021 trucks, and are offered with RWD and 4WD.
Going past the mechanics, the Suburban and Tahoe offer the exact trim levels, arranged from base to most exclusive: LS, LT, Z71, RST, Premier, and High Country; You’ll also find that equipment and options are comparable.
In terms of standard infotainment features, the dynamic duo both come with a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto, as well as a 6-speaker audio system. Other cool gadgets the 2021 SUVs also share include premium cloth seating, tri-zone automatic climate control, remote engine start, and power front seats.
Now let’s get into what’s fraternal. The best way to describe what makes the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe different is simply their sizes. The Suburban is pretty much a longer doppelganger of the Tahoe, its wheelbase is longer with 13.2 inches as well as its overall length with 15 inches.
One makes the right assumption that these models have different interior specs due to their different lengths, however, they do offer pretty much the same quantity of room for passengers.
All of this extra metal will certainly transition into the available cargo room. Behind the first row, the Suburban offers an additional 22-cubic-feet of storage space, an added 20 behind the second row, and 16 behind the third row.
The additional space metal contributes to the difference in price, as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban adds on an extra $2,700 for its identical trim level to its starting prices similar to the 2021 Tahoe.
Lastly, an infotainment feature that the Suburban keeps for itself is the GM subscription-based On Star connected services, including 4G LTE integration with built-in Wi-Fi.

One more similarity that the 2021 Suburban and 2021 Tahoe have in common is that they haven’t been released to dealerships yet, however, Miami Lakes Automall currently has a wide selection of both SUVs at 2020 models, and in a variety of different trims.

The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe has been selected to be one of the few vehicles employed by police officers in a special all-new Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV) and Special Service Vehicle (SSV) set to debut in 2020. Chevrolet has been able to provide law enforcement vehicles and the next-generation Tahoe is available in two law enforcement packages. The Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle was made for high speeds and dynamic capability with additional comfort needed from an everyday patrol vehicle. The Special Service Vehicle differs as it is more focused on off-road and towing abilities and high-speed operations are not needed.
“Tahoe is the most aspirational vehicle in the law enforcement industry. By listening to the needs of officers from around the country, we have built the best Tahoe ever,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet.
New Tahoe Pursuit Upgrades
The 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV has undergone an all-new design. A big change comes in the form of its now class-leading interior space. The new Tahoe police-specific front seats provide additional hip room, ideal for officers’ utility belts to fit much more comfortably. 2021 Tahoe police vehicles offer 70.3 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the second-row seat, which is 18.3 cubic feet more than the next largest pursuit-rated SUV competitor. Other brands have their own Pursuit vehicles, but they won’t provide as much space as the Tahoe. Rear door openings are now 13 percent (3.5 inches) wider than the previous generation to ease the loading of any handcuffed passengers.
Each of these 2021 Tahoe special editions, the PPV and SSV, have a 5.3-Liter V8 engine under the hood. The powertrain is paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. To meet the most demanding needs of law enforcement, the PPV engine borrows high-performance rocker covers taken from the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 LT4 engine. These rocker covers improve crankcase ventilation, allowing the 2021 Tahoe to handle high lateral conditions even better than its predecessor. Engine oil and transmission fluid are cooled by dedicated, heavy-duty cooling systems specific for law enforcement applications.
More Details on the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Pursuit
In order to be able to handle the amount of new Chevrolet Pursuit vehicles, Chevrolet partnered with Bridgestone to create a Pursuit-rated all-season tire. Each Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tire is mounted to a 20-inch steel wheel. These wheels and tires were tested by Chevrolet at numerous race tracks and play a role in the PPV’s improved stopping distance, which is tested from a speed of 62 mph to 0 mph on dry surfaces, this is actually better by 11 feet shorter than the 2020 model.
Further advances that help drivers of the Tahoe Pursuit include its all-new independent rear suspension, a longer wheelbase that helps handling and ride smoothness for all civilian and law enforcement drives, particularly in the event of off-road use on uneven terrain and unpaved surfaces. The exterior design is based on the new Tahoe Z71 trim, which features a rugged front grille, higher approach angle and front skid plate. Nice features like standard keyless entry and push-to-start ignition are great to aid in speeding up the process to get back on the road. The Tahoe PPV is offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations, the SSV is exclusively four-wheel-drive. This is easily the best Chevrolet Tahoe Pursuit yet.
Original of the Tahoe
The first-ever Tahoe used by law enforcement was over 23 years ago in 1997, when the first Pursuit-Rated Package was introduced. General Motors organized an official Law Enforcement Product Council three years after its inception to learn directly from officers how they can better perform their duties in a Pursuit vehicle. The council is composed of ranking law enforcement officers and civilian fleet managers. The 2021 Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle and the Special Service Vehicle will be assembled at General Motors’ Arlington Assembly in Texas with globally-sourced parts in late 2020 and ready to ship in the beginning of 2021.

Happy Birthday Chevy Suburban!
It’s highly likely that the Chevy Suburban has been around longer then you’ve been alive. The ol’ crooner is often the go-to vehicle for political leaders and federal intelligence services, but even more so with bad-guys in your favorite action films, as it has been featured over 1,200 movies and even was honored by the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year. The Suburban isn’t just any vehicle, it has been a game-changer from its beginning to now and its ability to evolve and become more advanced makes it a significant part of American history.
“The name Suburban is so widely recognized that at various times over history it was used by a few vehicle manufacturers,” said Leslie Kendall, curator at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. “But the Chevrolet Suburban was the forerunner of the modern SUV, has stood the test of time, becoming a fixture of Americana.”
In honor of the Chevy Suburban’s 85th birthday, let’s see, just how far its come!
A Stroll Down Memory Lane
America’s SUV was born in 1935, a year where many U.S citizens were just starting to recover from the Great Depression. While models like Ford V8s, Duesenberg SJs and Chrysler Airflows tried their best to compete, they just couldn’t compare to the multi-purposeful Chevy SUV.
“The Suburban Carryall, as it was known in 1935, was designed for versatility,” said Christo Datini, manager of the GM Archives. “It combined the comfort and convenience of a passenger car with the practical hauling capability of a light commercial vehicle. It could seat eight or be reconfigured for maximum cargo capacity by removing its rear seats.”

The mother of all Chevy Suburbans allowed up to three rows for passengers and was powered up (if you want to call it that) with just 60 horsepower from a 6-cylinder engine. It had a two-door body shell that was developed upon General Motor’s crossover chassis, however, what really caught our attention was the Art-Deco-era (apart of the AK Series), in which had a glamourous look it but not so bougie that it looked out of place in the driveway of a farmer.
With each generation, the Suburban has gone through various refinements, powertrains, and computerized systems that one could only dream of when it first made its debut. However, the overall blueprint hasn’t changed.

A couple of years after World War II, more changes were made like the round chrome-grilled nose of the company’s preferred truck line while advancing the torque of the engine in order to make it more adequate for towing. By 1956, there was a complete conversion made from the 1930s style with elements involving wrap-around windshield and body flush with the fenders. Additionally, we finally acquired the V8 engine along with a four-wheel-drive. By the 1960s, it almost unrecognizable with its straight lines and creases on its body, as well as air-conditioning and a rear heater.

It wasn’t until 1967, where the Suburban had some sort of resemblance to the models of present-day, as a third door on the rear passenger side was finally added, making it a hit with families. Within a few more decades, four doors were added as well as increased comfort and emphasis on interior design.

Over the subsequent years style evolved to something sleeker and more cultivated, and was OG when it comes to sharing its exterior style with the Cadillac Escalade. It also evolved more during the Information Age with advancements in technology like electronic sway control, blind-spot alert, forward collision warning, rear safety alert seat and 4G Wi-Fi. Hands-free liftgates, heated steering wheels, and rear-seat entertainment systems.

“Over the years, the Suburban has become a trusted member of the family,” said Mikhael Farah of Chevrolet Communications. “The 2021 Suburban took what customers loved and made it even better,” Farah said. “The focus on more efficient use of cargo space, interior passenger comfort, interior refinement and overall driving dynamics was the main focus of the all-new Suburban. For the first time in its history, it has an independent rear suspension, that has allowed for a much more refined vehicle overall.”
Additionally, the Suburbans air system gives way to ride-height configuration of up to 4 inches for off-roading. The interior includes impressive features like 10-inch touchscreens, widescreen head-up displays, and 12.6-inch rear monitors. It also includes Adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking, rear pedestrian alert and side blind zone alert bolster safety. Today’s powertrains push 355 horsepower with a 5.3-liter V8 and 420 with a 6.2-liter V8 turbo-diesel, which are both paired but with 10-speed transmissions and push-button shifting.
The 2021 Suburban is set to release this summer, though there’s talk that its descendent may be an electric variant. General Motors affirmed that they would carry out 20 new electric vehicles by 2023 as well as a reawakened Hummer with a whopping 1000 horsepower.
“While the world has changed significantly, the Suburban is just as relevant today as it was in 1935,” Farah said. And we couldn’t agree more!

AutoPacific Inc, a research and consulting firm, has awarded Chevrolet with different recognition more so than any other automaker. AutoPacific’s Ideal Vehicle Awards (IVA) award a vehicle for its layout and design. This is reflected through finding out what owners expect from a new vehicle and their opinion on the experience of owning a vehicle. Drivers were surveyed on all purchased vehicles from September through December 2017, and were provided a specialized questionnaire. 58,000 owners responded between January through April 2018. Those final results were managed and released in September 2017. The results were compiled and showcased the best of the best vehicles on the road today.
“Giving owners a chance to tell us what they would change and how they would change it reveals which vehicles are designed to meet their needs and expectations. In other words, having owners who are happy with things the way they are says the manufacturer did their upfront research and designed the vehicle with their target buyer in mind.” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific.
Chevy Is Winning Big In 2018
U.S. brands received fourteen total vehicle awards, up from eleven the previous year. Six of those awards are for the Chevrolet brand, including the top scoring Chevrolet Suburban. Chevrolet was most impressive in the pickup segment with the Silverado 1500, Silverado HD and Colorado all winning an IVA. The praise for the Chevy Suburban went further after winning the award, receiving praise from the president of AutoPacific. Owners of the Chevrolet Suburban will note the impressive towing capacity of 6,300 pounds and seating capacity of eight people with best-in-class V8 fuel economy. 23 highway MPG is pretty impressive for a three-row SUV. America’s best-selling SUV has collected a new accolade thanks to being powerful, modern and exactly what customers hoped for when they purchased their own.
“The Suburban nailed most of the problem categories. Its packaging is just what their target consumer wants. IVA’s speak to a vehicle’s layout and design. Giving owners a chance to tell us what they would change and how they would change it reveals which vehicles are designed to meet their needs and expectations,” says George Peterson
Chevy Has More Than Award-Winning Pickups
Electric vehicles are a segment Chevy put time and effort into and were awarded for their Chevy Bolt. The impressive 2019 Chevy Bolt receives a 9.9 out of 10 from Kelly Blue Book. With a 238 mile range with just a single charge. The first affordable all-electric car to hit that range is eligible for a federal tax credit and despite its small size, offers 56.6 cubic feet of storage. There’s a lot to love about this vehicle with unmatched gas mileage. Chevrolet has gone the extra mile to provide different options for drivers and this vehicle is perfect for those who have long commutes or just want a great vehicle to save money and avoid having to wait in line for gas.
