2022 Chevy Tahoe Receives a Production Date

Friday, July 16th, 2021

A revamped 2021 Chevy Tahoe was introduced recently, bringing the iconic SUV to its fifth generation. Now, GM is preparing to work on a 2022 Chevy Tahoe that will hopefully surpass its predecessor. Starting October 4th, 2021, GM will begin production on the next iteration of the large SUV. The only question is, how will GM improve upon its acclaimed 2021 Chevy Tahoe? According to the Chevrolet site, “you make it the most versatile and advanced Tahoe ever– with a bigger, more spacious cabin, better ride and handling, and a commanding presence that’s impossible to ignore.”

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe recently underwent a makeover that added more passenger and cargo room. Alongside this, the full-size SUV got a cabin and interior redesign along with an improved infotainment system. Capable of fitting 8 people, the revamped 2021 Chevy Tahoe offers a lot for those who enjoy a powerful but comfortable SUV.

Since the 2021 Chevy Tahoe received major changes and improvements recently, new additions to the 2022 model are likely to be minor. Either new colors or additions to the instrument cluster and infotainment system can be expected.

Speculation About the 2022 Chevy Tahoe

Speculation around the 2022 Chevy Tahoe has given way to several theories: 1) GM makes a 2022 Chevy Tahoe that has true all-terrain capabilities, 2) GM makes a 2022 Chevy Tahoe that is off-road oriented, 3) GM makes a 2022 Chevy Tahoe that is performance-tuned. Whichever direction GM decides to take, Chevy Tahoe fans will not be disappointed.

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe will likely use the new T1 platform that was introduced in 2019. Used for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, the T1 platform was a newly engineered platform intended for full-size body-on-frame models. If the 2022 Chevy Tahoe makes use of this platform,  it will enjoy better handling and stability.

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe will likely feature a similar engine to the 2021 Tahoe. A 5.4L V9 L84 gasoline engine comes standard from the EcoTec3 family. It comes with a rating of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Chevy Tahoe trims like the High Country level will most likely feature a 6.2L V8 L87 exclusive engine. It will come with 420 horsepower and 460lb-ft of torque. The rest of the trims except for the Z71 will offer a 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax which will offer 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. All three engines will come with GM’s Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive will be standard on most trims except for the Z71. There may also be an option for four-wheel drive on certain trims.

2022 Chevy Tahoe Trims

Those interested in the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe will be happy to know that several distinct trims will be available. For those seeking an off-roader style SUV, the Z71 trim will be ideal. Starting at $60,495 MSRP (plus destination fee), the Z71 will come with four-wheel drive and off-road-ready features like a heavy-duty air filter, recovery hooks, a transfer case, and 20-inch all-terrain tires.

The High Country trim will be good for those seeking a more performance-oriented SUV. Starting at $69,700 MSRP (plus destination fee), the High Country trim will feature a more powerful 6.2L V8 engine. It will also come with 22-inch wheels, a 15-inch head-up display, rear pedestrian alerts, and an HD surround vision camera.

The Premier trim is for those looking for a higher standard of comfort and luxury. Starting at $63,895 MSRP (plus destination fee), the Premier trim comes with features like magnetic ride control and power tilt steering. It will feature an 8-inch driver information display and some advanced safety features like lane-keep assist and lane-change alerts.

As indicated by Q1 2021 sale numbers, the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe has quickly become a fan favorite in the full-size SUV sector. With over 23,000 units sold, the Chevy Tahoe managed to secure a place at the top. Now with the announcement of a new 2022 Chevy Tahoe in the works, GM is hoping to further its lead in the SUV market.

2022 Chevy Corvette C8 Gets Some Sporty Improvements

Thursday, June 17th, 2021

General Motors subsidiary Chevrolet recently brought on a small selection of new color options for their 2022 C8 Corvette Stingray and is even offering a  limited appearance package based on the 2021 IMSA GTLM champion C8.R race car. The company also enhanced the sporty vehicle’s fuel and engine management interworks, however, this doesn’t mean that the C8 is going to muster up any more power than it already has. On top of this, its starting price has been heightened to $62,195, (plus destination fee), which is over $1000 more than the 2021 model year.

The upcoming Corvette’s engine is a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V-8, which is geared with a new fuel pump and fuel injections that gives way for running higher fuel pressures. The output remains the same at 490 horsepower (really 495 if you have the performance exhaust) with 470 lb-ft of torque. It’s geared with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. In Car and Drivers testing, the Stingray got up to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and zoomed through the quarter-mile at 122 mph in 11.2 seconds. The more advanced Active Fuel Management system makes it possible for the cylinder deactivation to be able to perform at lower speeds, however, estimates regarding the fuel economy have not yet been released.

Limited to just 1000 cars is the new IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package. Its starting price is $6595 and is available on 3LT models fixed with the Z51 Performance package. It also has two available colors, which are Accelerate Yellow w/ gray accents or Hypersonic Gray w/ yellow accents. Finished in the Carbon Flash color are the spoilers and mirror, while the wheels are painted black w/ the brand’s Racing “Jake” skull emblem on the center caps and yellow brakes.

These special-edition models have an exclusive Strike Yellow and Sky Cool Gray interior with GT2 buckets seats paired with yellow seat belts. One can also select the special Competition seats, and there is even a C8.R Special Edition numbered plaque that you’ll find between the chairs. They are accompanied by a distinctive car cover that mirrors the style of the Corvette C8. race car.

What’s more, Corvette cars that aren’t geared with the track-equipped Z51 package are now available to order with a new low rear spoiler, along with a Z51 front splitter.

Excitingly enough, the C8.R race car was revealed for the first time at Detroit’s Belle Isle on Saturday, June 12. Eager Chevy enthusiasts of the upcoming C8 Stingray, as well as the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition package, can place their order on July 1st.

Chevrolet Reveals Three Cool Colors For The 2022 Corvette C8

Friday, April 30th, 2021

New Corvette Colors For 2022

Although the All-American Chevrolet brand has a great deal of vehicles under its belt, without question, their Corvette sports car is their main squeeze. Now more than ever, with its recent C8 Corvette entering its third model year, the car has gained widespread popularity. While changes in design have been relatively haven’t been too dramatic, they still add just enough excitement.

Recently, the automaker announced that there are three new color options available. The three new color options include Amplify Orange, Caffeine, and Hypersonic Gray. At least one of these colors is viewed as a premium color, with Amplify Orange being a bit more expensive.

It seems as though the colors Caffeine and Hypersonic Gray are standard. The Caffeine color appears to look brownish, and the shared image from the brand appears to have hints of metallic gold elements to it once it hits the sunshine. The color is very subtle for the Corvette. Hypersonic Gray also serves as a metallic color option, and slightly comparable to the silver that was previously available to the vehicle.

All of next year’s Corvette models will encompass standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as new display options for the digital gauge cluster, such as a tachometer in Track mode. These standard gadgets were presented in the 2021 model year. Buyers of the 2022 C8 models can also select the magnetorheological dampers as a standalone option that doesn’t necessitate buyers to choose the Z51 performance package.

For the time being, no new changes will be applied to the motor, as the Corvette will continue to make use of a 490 horsepower 6.2-liter V-8 engine. The company confirmed that orders for the 2022 model will start by early July.

The drivetrain shifts over from previous years with the 6.2-liter V-8 engine producing 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. Car and Driver states that the C8 can reach 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 11.2 seconds at 122 mph. The 2-door vehicle uses an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The entry-level price for the 2021 Corvette was $60,995, (plus destination fee), with the 2022 C8 likely following suit.

Corvette’s Color Of The Year

The 2021 Corvette already has an exciting group of 12 exterior colors. At the present moment, the fan favorite of the bunch is Torch Red.

For loyal Corvette followers, the popularity in the Torch shouldn’t come as a shock, as GM Authority previously reported that this option was the most desired exterior color for the 2020 Corvette, specifically making up 25 percent of all of last year’s models that were produced. Arctic White came in as the second most popular 2020 Corvette color, making up 15 percent of the sales, while Black came in third place at 12 percent. Finally, with 7 percent each, Sebring Orange and Elkhart Lake Blue came in fourth and fifth, respectively.

All Corvette color options currently include:

  • Sebring Orange Tintcoat
  • Arctic White
  • Ceramic Matrix Gray Metallic
  • Black
  • Accelerate Yellow Metallic
  • Shadow Gray Metallic
  • Rapid Blue
  • Red Mist Metallic Tintcoat
  • Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic
  • Silver Flare Metallic
  • Zeus Bronze Metallic

Inhouse, the 2021 Corvette currently offers eight interior colors, such as:

  • Jet Black
  • Sky Cool Gray
  • Adrenaline Red
  • Natural
  • Natural Dipped
  • Tension with Twilight Blue Dipped
  • Morello Red Dipped
  • Sky Cool Gray with Strike Yellow

The Chevy Corvette Commands Authority With High Market Share During Q1 2021

Thursday, April 15th, 2021

The 2021 Chevrolet Corvette has experienced incredible highs in the United States and in Mexico during the first sales quarter of 2021.

Chevrolet Corvette Sales – Q1 2021 – United States

In North America, deliveries for the Chevrolet Corvette summed up to 6,611 units in Q1 2021, which is about a 73 percent increase as opposed to the 3,820 units sold in Q1 2020.

Chevrolet Corvette Sales – Q1 2021 – Mexico

In Mexico, the deliveries for the Corvette model consisted of 36 units in Q 2021, which means there was a growth of about 140 percent as opposed to 15 units sold in Q1 2020.

Chevrolet Corvette Sales – Q1 2021 – Canada

In Canada, however, the Vette did experience a slight decrease in sales, as its deliveries amounted to 281 units in Q1 2021, which brought its numbers down to about 2 percent as opposed to 288 units sold in Q1 2020.

Competition Sales Comparison (USA)

The significant increase in the Chevrolet Corvette’s North American sales during the Q1 2021 prompted the iconic sports car to maintain its position as the best-selling model in its segment. Essentially, the famous Stingray outpaced all of its other competitors in the sales race, including that of the Porsche 911, Porsche 718, Mercedes-AMG GT, Mercedes-Benz SL, Mercedes-Benz SLC, Audi R8, Nissan GT-R, Ford GT, Acura NSX, and BMW i8.

Sales Numbers – Premium Sports Cars – Q1 2021 – USA

The Corvette’s impressive numbers signify a considerable improvement over figures that were similarly admirable in Q3 2020 in addition to Q4 2020. Throughout these quarters, the 8th-gen model made up over 50 percent of shares for its segment. It’s worth noting, however, that most candidates are much pricier than the Corvette and therefore, it’s less likely this will contribute to the lower volume of buyers.

The Chevy Corvette was able to increase its segment shares up to 51 percent opposed to 43 percent in 2020. Coming in second, is the highly popular and big-time rival, Porsche 911; This car comprised about a third of the Corvettes sales with 22 percent segment share, which is a decrease of 29 percent in the quarter a year ago. Then, Porsche’s 718 line, encompassing the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster, came up third with a 12 percent segment share, with an increase of 4 percent from a year ago. The remaining contenders like the Audi R8, Nissan GT-R, Ford GT, Acura NSX, and BMW i8, all saw an increase of 1 percent or less in their segment share.

The segment for luxury sport vehicles increased an average of about 44 percent to 12,876 units in Q1 2021, which means that Corvette sales outsold the segment nearly two-fold.

The Hybrid Corvette C8 Is Rumored To Be Named The E-Ray

Monday, March 8th, 2021

Just when you thought the legendary Chevrolet C8 Corvette couldn’t wow us any more than it already has, the company surprises us with a hybrid variant.

The American automaker proves itself to be a powerhouse once again, as they plan on putting to use the name “E-Ray”, as claimed in a report from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The parent company, General Motors (GM) already trademarked this name about six years ago, so perhaps this new electric venture has been in the works for quite some time. Reports also say that not only will the name be used for the first hybrid Corvette model, but the sports car could make its grand entrance into the 2023 lineup.

According to the website, The Trade Group, the E-Ray will make its appearance in two model years, in the same place where the spot was initially saved for the Grand Sport trim package in previous generations of the Vette’. The new hybrid will be energized by the 6.2-liter LT2 V8, the same engine that was on the base Stingray model, also encompassing two electric motors, which will both be fixed on the front axle. The new engine will certainly be more impressive than the regular gasoline-powered motor, but it will provide that final wow factor due to its significant upsurge in power from 490 horses and 465 ft-lbs of torque to a facelifting 600 horses and 500 ft-lbs of torque.

The report from SAE’s also brings attention to the fact the center tunnel on the mixed-material chassis seems to have an extensive amount of space for one of the automaker’s Ultium battery packs, while the front of the Corvette has space for two electric motors. The suggestion is that there will be two potential disadvantages to the hybrid powertrain with one being the adding of weight and the other the loss of cargo space in the front truck. Nevertheless, it is estimated that the variant will have a starting pricing for around $100,000, (plus destination fee).

Only loyal Chevrolet fans would know that this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve heard rumors of an eco-friendly Corvette, however, it’s important to note that the company hasn’t exactly confirmed…or denied that they are going through with the moniker. A representative from the automaker told Robb Report said, “We’re not going to engage in rumor and speculation.”

Despite GM playing coy, there has been more fuel added to the fire of the E-Ray rumors less than a month after the company announced their plans for electrifying their Corvette. Toward the end of January, the automaker revealed its plan to begin switching out internal combustion engines and its effort to eventually only sell battery-operated vehicles by the year 2035. Theoretically, the E-Ray still has an internal combustion engine, but it is a very important step on the journey to transition to an all-electric C8.

Super Cruisin’ With The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

Friday, March 5th, 2021

The Chevrolet Bolt is a beloved electric hatchback, favored for its miniature body and eco-friendly abilities. When it was first introduced into the market, it received a list of automotive awards and accolades, so it was no surprise with its success that it would eventually bring on an SUV variant. The cleverly named Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle) enhances the Bolt hatchback’s abilities of practicality and usefulness, and with the growing popularity of large compacts, it’s certainly something we can see today’s consumers getting excited about.

For the sake of clarity, it’s important to note that the EUV won’t be drastically different from the regular Bolt. In fact, both models are featured on GM’s BEV2 platform (for small electric vehicles). Simply put, the EUV may be considered a bit too small and restricted to even be considered an official compact crossover.

The styling is a mix between the Bolt and Chevrolet’s larger Blazer, as well as a bit of its Trailblazer. What truly gives it some distinction is the availability hands-free Super Cruise driver-assistance package. Besides being gifted to a few Launch Edition models, this feature is exclusive to the EUV high-tier Premier trim as an option and also involves three years with OnStar service.

As far as the drive goes, the highway drive with the Super Cruise system was relatively impressive, as the car stayed put in its lane and covered lots of road without the need of human interaction. Technologies like a camera focused on the driver and infrared sensors help keep you focused on what’s ahead because if you find yourself in La La Land, it’s a sure thing that the system will start to beep.

It’s been estimated that the EUV should be able to zoom at 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds, but it is certain that the engine’s low-end pull is quite stone, as it easily gets the motor going away from stoplights and zoom past all of the grannies on the highway. The regenerative braking system is also a plus, as this recaptures the energy that the car gained through momentum, and saves it for future use. The braking system ultimately saves money and reduces overall brake usage.

As far as interior technologies are concerned there is a new 8.0-inch infotainment display located in the gauge cluster and a central 10.2-inch touchscreen, which are both easy to use. The car comes with standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a charging pad. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, as well as heated rear seats. Safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning, while rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, and adaptive cruise control can serve as an option.

Distance-wise, GM has estimated that its SUV variant ranges at 250 miles, while is a setback of 9 miles from its hatchback. When plugged into a 240-volt outlet, the battery should take about seven hours to fully recharge the EUV. Either you choose the Bolt or EUV, you’ll get standard DC fast-charging capability, with the 55-kW maximum charge rate able to “refuel” the EUV with up to 95 miles of range in 30 minutes.

One of the final enticements the automaker seems to offer for the EUV, its affordable price. The base price of the larger vehicle is $33,995, (plus destination fee), which is lower than the starting price of the 2020 Bolt at $37,495, (plus destination fee).

Chevrolet Designers Show Off Their Unofficial Split-Window Design For The Corvette C8

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

Chevrolet Designers Seem Split On Their Unofficial Window Design

Chevrolet’s Corvette sports car had quite an incredible career in the automotive market spanning more than 60 years. Since its debut, it’s been considered one of the preferred cars by adrenaline enthusiasts, more particularly with the automaker’s Corvette Sting Ray, which was famous for its 1963 split-window. Designers of General Motors (GM) were close to bringing back this classic style element onto the mid-engine C8 Corvette but pulled back from the idea. However, it appears that the creators have had a change of heart, more particularly Rain Prisk, by attempting to tack on a split-window design to the mid-engine Corvette.

This restyling includes modifying the C8’s engine hatch, or rather completely getting rid of it. Alternatively, the roofline is now extended right to the rear end, highlighting the coupe-like style. It makes the Corvette look a bit more curvaceous, even comparable to a Bugatti from the rear-three-quarter angle. The longer roof also alters the car’s B-pillar layout, substituting the small piece of triangular trim with a couple of intake embellishments. The stretched roof is highlighted with a glossed spine curving from the roof to the letter “Corvette” at the rear, separating the rear window and reinstating an icon.

The C8’s rear is a bit more refined in the rendering as opposed to the production car Chevrolet on the market, however, it misses out on the high-mount brake light midway. On the other hand, that could be added somewhere else. When GM was constructing the new C8, it made attempts to include the split-window design. Still, according to Chevrolet Performance Exterior Design Director, Tom Peters, these efforts “came across as focused”. The company’s artists couldn’t figure out how to get the split-window design to flow well with the rest of the car’s sharp-edged set-up.

On the flip side, it might be for the best that the automaker left the split-window in its original placement. The 1963 Corvette is considered a classic because of its differentiating feature. The company did away with the split-window design the following year after receiving much flack about the visibility of the rear, unintentionally creating an icon of sorts. The Corvette’s mid-engine design helps in neutralizing some of those concerns since rearward visibility was never on par to start with. At the current moment, it still appears that the split-window wouldn’t mesh well with the C8, but who knows if things will change for the Corvette C9.

Miami Lakes Chevrolet

Split-window or not, the Chevrolet Corvette is a dynamic vehicle that rocks an incredible design and provides a ride that only one can dream of…or simply make a purchase at our dealership, Miami Lakes Chevrolet. We have a wide selection of Chevrolet models like the Corvette, at a variety of different styles and prices.

The Chevy Bolt EUV Skips Out On Automated Lane Change

Monday, February 22nd, 2021

The Chevy Bolt EUV Bring On The Automated Lane Change

The distinction that the Bolt EUV (otherwise known as Chevy’s electric SUV) makes in its particular model is that it will not encompass the Automated Lane Change technology that has been recently presented to General Motors three Cadillac models: the 2021 luxury Cadillac CT4 and 2021 Cadillac CT5 sedans and the latest 2021 Cadillac Escalade full-size luxury SUV.

The Automated Lane Change enables the vehicle to automatically change lanes, thus signaling an progression of the standard Super Cruise system. Vehicles that offer this system have a fairly simple task, with the driver just having to either tap or fully latch the turn signal level in order to start the process. Doing this allows the system to look for a convenient opening in the indicated lane, and once it’s safe to do so, move in that particular spot. In the same way with all Super Cruise functions, this is only workable on compatible highways, of which potential buyers will be happy to know that there are around about 200,000 miles in North America and Canada, as well as 180,000 miles in China.

At the digitized reveal for the vehicle, the Super Cruise Assistant Program Engineering Manager, Jeff Dinakar, explained why Automated Lane Change would not be accessible on the Bolt EUV, saying “This requires VIP.”

To explain, VIP expresses itself as a Vehicle Intelligent Platform, which is also known as the GM Global B electronic architecture. Think of it as the electronic nervous system of the vehicle, progressively, Global B has been replacing the previous Global A in General Motors cars, with some dating back all the way to the 1990s, and then some.

While it’s certain that the brand new Bolt EUV is set to go on sale this summer, technologically and mechanically, it is comparable to Chevrolet’s other fully-electric and smaller crossover, the Bolt EV, which is in the midst its own facelift for the 2022 model year (though will not have Super Cruise available). The electric architecture is essentially Global A, but with a slight update that develops it in Global B’s direction without really turning it into a “proper” Global B vehicle. As a result, the electric system would not be a suitable partner for the Bolt EUV to be matched with Automated Lane Change.

It is for this reason that the Bolt EUV’s Super Cruise system will be comparable to the one that we first saw in the 2018 Cadillac CT6. This tells the driver that it is safe to take their hands off in particular instances. As stated by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Automated Vehicles for Safety document, though the Super Cruise system is a driver assistance system, that doesn’t make it fully autonomous.

In fact, the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) describes it as a Level 2 system, going as far to describe it as such: “Vehicle has combined automated functions, like acceleration and steering, but the driver must remain engaged with the driving task and monitor the environment at all times.”

Miami Lakes Chevrolet

We sell a wide range of Chevrolet vehicles and at a variety of different styles and prices. How It’s Made: After 60 Years The Mid-Engine Corvette Finally Gets The Limelight

Wednesday, December 30th, 2020

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C8, otherwise known as “America’s Sports Car,” has been the symbol of ultimate freedom and adventure for automotive enthusiasts everywhere since its debut. This year marked the first time this supercar was powered by a mid-engine rather than a front-engine, proving enhanced handling abilities. As revolutionary as this may seem, it isn’t the first time the brand has experimented with a mid-engine for the C8. The idea of the new engine started in the early ’60s, and finally picked up steam in 2011.

The production of the first-generation Corvette C1 started in 1953. Its knockout styling made it easy for it to draw the public’s attention. However, General Motors engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov (better known as “Father of the Corvette) envisioned a much brighter future for the car. That same year, the automaker hired Arkus-Duntov after the C1’s debut. After gradually climbing the ranks, he became the brand’s high-performance director in just two years. In 1955, the Corvette was released with an available 4.3-liter V8 engine.

Five years later, Arkus-Duntov orchestrated the CERV I, Chevrolet Engineering’s first research vehicle. Contrasting from the production Corvette, CERV I has a mid-engine layout on par with a Formula 1 racing vehicle. Highlighting the genius of Arkus-Duntov, as he knew that next-generation performance racing cars would eventually build upon a mid-engine chassis structure.

From the early 1960s to the mid-1990s Chevrolet only strummed up at least nine mid-engine prototypes for their Corvette before getting the C8 Corvette ready for production. The carmakers constructed various scale models and three clay renditions in actual size before giving it the final clearance. As far as we know, the Corvette with the spirit of the mid-engine supercar was the out-turn.

Now, at long last, the front-engine finally retires in favor of its successor. Presently, all C8 Corvette models sport a 6.2-liter small-block LT2 V8 engine breathing out 490 horses with 465 lb-ft of torque. If that isn’t enough, the Z51 Performance Package tacks on five more brownie points with both its horsepower and torque. Still staying true to its nature, the car is rear-wheel-drive, though a manual stick isn’t an option. The standard eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox is still beneficial.

According to executive editor Chris Davies of car site, Slash Gear, the C8 Corvette Convertible was visually impressed with the engine’s engine’s supercar-beating merit. “The Stingray leaps ahead like a beast scalded, monstrously quick and with a soundtrack to match,” said Davies. This is indeed a supercar, as it goes from zero to 60 mph in 2.9-seconds and has a top speed of 194 mph.

This month, (Dec, 12), Chevrolet released one of a two-part documentary series “Revolution: The Mid-Engine Corvette Development Story,” in which the company’s design team discuss what inspired the design of their new mid-engine. The second part of this documentary will air next year on January 4th at 1 p.m. ET.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Shows Off Its Diesel Power

Friday, December 18th, 2020

Chevrolet Tahoe’s New Diesel Options

In North America, diesel engines usually aren’t considered the most appealing engine option and this was especially true in the 1970s. During this time, General Motors made the transition from a gas V-8 engine to a diesel for its (now deceased) Oldsmobile brand. These engines resulted in miserable reliability issues, mainly involving head bolts that had too much pressure from the diesel compression.

Many years later (in 2001) the American automaker made the introduction of its powerful and tough Duramax diesel V-8 for its heavy-duty truck, which certainly made up for Olddie’s failure. Even more fascinating is the recent installment of light-duty Duramax inline-six on trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, and gradually on all of the company’s remodeled full-sized SUVs, one of them being the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The new lake-named vehicle will be sporting a turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax, one out of the three available engines. Base models already have an impressive boost with 355 horsepower on a 5.3-liter V-8, while the top-tier High Country is geared up by a standard 6.2-liter with 420 horsepower. The diesel will have 277 horsepower, which is the least of the group, however, it’s 460 lb-ft of torque matches the 6.2’s engine.

Oftentimes, diesel engines come at a heftier cost, one of the reasons being that they integrate pricy exhaust-treatment systems keep their sootier emissions composed, however, that won’t be the case this time around. High Country trims, for example, include a $1500 credit as opposed to the bigger V-8. Lesser models only have a $995 line item and the most affordable Tahoe with the Duramax has a starting price of $53,295, (plus destination fee). At the same time, the inclusive High Country model starts at $69,395, (plus destination fee). Of course, these prices don’t take into account the optional equipment.

Great torque output is usually an implication for massive towing capabilities. The 3.0-liter Duramax rates the least weight out of the Tahoe’s powertrains, but it’s 8200 lb rating is still strong and tough enough to make an impact.

Choosing the Duramax won’t significantly change the driving behavior of the SUV. According to one car reviewer, their Tahoe model that was paired with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission made smooth and swift shuffles and reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds; 5.8-liter powered models were only a second faster, and 6.2’s being the fastest.

The new diesel engine option isn’t just powerful, it’s also highly capable during the winter months. Unlike older engines, the 3.0-liter makes use of a fresh coolant-control system to be able to endure freezing temperatures. The Duramax’s computer manages flow to the head, engine block, oil, transmission cooler, cabin heater, cooler, as well as low and high-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation coolers. This enables the engine to send warm coolant to the cabin heater and with necessary haste.

As one should expect with any big and bad SUV of General Motors, the diesel Tahoe has an independent rear suspension, which allows passengers to have their own personal space and also betters the quality of the ride as opposed to the previous solid-rear-axle system. On top of this, the interior quality and design have received a significant upgrade both aesthetically and comfort-wise. However, nothing compares to the car’s new and efficient diesel engine.
