Chevrolet has decided to be creative with ways to provide their L87 6.2-Liter V8 engine in the hands of more drivers. How could they do that? General Motors (the parent company of Chevrolet) worked on adding the strong powertrain with more Silverado trims. Now customers can experience the massive Chevy V8 powertrain and its remarkable 435 horsepower with three more trim options. Considering a new pickup? We loved the latest Chevrolet Silverado, which was redesigned as the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500. The upcoming 2020 Silverado 1500 is going to surpass this pickup in more ways than one giving customers more options than before.
Changes to the Silverado
Chevrolet made their all-new Silverado 1500 lighter, yet stronger with the 2019 version. Reports have come out that the towing technology will be improved and more powertrain availability is expected. More than half of the trims for the 2020 Silverado 1500 will have access to the available 6.2-Liter V8 engine with its 10-speed automatic transmission. The Silverado will offer three body styles and eight trim levels to choose from, as there is a perfect fit for all customers to drive. The Work Truck is the base trim that is the only single-cab configuration. The Custom is the next higher trim that adds 20-inch aluminum wheels and LED taillights. Custom Trail Boss trim adds a two-inch suspension lift and the available Z71 package that can be added to higher-end Silverado trims is standard. The package adds Rancho shocks, skid plates, Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, and a locking rear differential to safely handle going on roads less traveled. This is one of the trims, along with the LT Trail Boss that can opt for the monstrous 6.2-Liter V8 engine.
Opt for the LT trim, which adds an 8.0-inch touchscreen and available leather seats for a more traditional pickup look. The RST, like the LT, gain access to the 310 horsepower turbocharged inline-four powertrain. This is the first ever turbocharged four-cylinder engine in a full-size pickup and only the LT and RST have the option. The RST can also add the 6.2-Liter V8 engine should a driver want. The strength of the RST was improved as its towing capacity reaches 13,400 pounds with the new powertrain option, thanks to its 435 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque.
Higher End Trims of the Silverado
The most flexible trim might be the LT Trail Boss because of the Off-Road prowess and its standard 5.3-Liter V8 engine paired to an eight-speed transmission. Looking for the luxurious Silverado option? The LTZ is decked out in chrome from the grille to the door handles, wheels and mirrors. The LTZ supplies the 5.8-Liter powertrain and the 6.2-Liter V8 and the turbo-diesel straight-six engine as available choices. The head of the class for all trims is the High Country, which adds bronze accents throughout and integrated dual exhaust tips, fine leather seating, and available 22-inch wheels. Chrome highlights mix in with the bronze to provide a sleek look on the gorgeous High Country trim.
Under the Hood Is Where the Gold Is
Chevrolet is expected to offer their 469 lb-ft of torque V8 powertrain with optional Performance Upgrade Package that will also include a cat-back exhaust and a different air intake for customers. The 3.0-Liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine arrives for the first time with the 2020 Silverado, offered on the LT, RST, LTZ and High Country trims. Owners opting for the diesel engine gain 277 horsepower with a powerful 460 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet introduced the 2.7-Liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engineered specifically for pickup driving. All of these upgrades only add more reasons why customers should consider the latest Silverado. The Silverado 1500 has always had so much to offer drivers, but we hope to have our customers come in for a test-drive to find out firsthand.

For those who have not yet test-driven the previous-generation Chevrolet Silverado, they will have more time to decide on getting one. Chevrolet will remain making the prior generation pickup throughout the 2019 calendar year. The stock of previous generation Chevy pickups will continue to be produced alongside the brand new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado that is now available for purchase. So what are the reasons behind having both and what are the differences? Let’s start by breaking down the plans for the older-generation Chevrolet Silverado.
Plans For the Previous Generation Silverado
Automotive News reports that Chevrolet will produce the older truck, named internally as the K2, and then they will phase out the truck gradually over 2019. Chevrolet CFO Dhivya Suryadevara informed Automotive News that crew cab models will be the first to end its production, succeeded by the double cab models and then eventually the regular cab versions in the second half of 2019.
The new generation Silverado crew cab models, which started assembly in Fort Wayne, Indiana earlier in 2018, and the double cab models began production in October 2018. A Chevrolet production plant in Silao, Mexico, will be ready to produce pickups by January and will launch production of the regular cab models simultaneously with crew cabs.
General Motor’s Oshawa, Ontario plant in Canada creates the T1 double cab bodies and then exports them to Fort Wayne to finalize and complete the pickup’s assembly. This process is known by those in the company as the “Oshawa shuttle,” the method decreased how long the process takes, giving General Motors the ability to make a target number of trucks required to support a new vehicle launch and provide dealerships all over a chance to be stocked properly with the Silverado.
Why Make Them Both Together?
While the previous edition of the Silverado will be sold side-by-side by the latest and greatest Chevrolet Silverado, this doesn’t mean that the new generation Silverado isn’t that spectacular (it is) or that the previous generation pickup didn’t sell well (it has) as they both have their fans. The General Motors approach is similar to what Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is doing with their single cab version of the Ram 1500, selling both the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 with their retitled 2018 Ram 1500 as an ever-so-slightly refreshed 2019 Ram 1500 “Classic”.
While General Motors does not provide their sales numbers monthly, a quarterly report will have to do to showcase how great a decision this move is later on. How will the Silverado fair? Time will tell, but having choices is always a plus for consumers. However, the difference between both generations shows that the latest Silverado is definitely superior to the prior generation.
The Difference Between The Newest Silverado and Previous Silverado
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is way more convincing and capable than the previous Silverado. New components and a new frame go along with a redesigned interior. The new 2019 Chevy Silverado carries multiple powertrains that have improved their fuel economy from the previous model year. A 5.3-Liter V8 eight-speed automatic and 6.2-Liter V8 with 10-speed automatic transmission both allow more than a 5 percent improvement in city fuel economy, hitting 17 mpg and an improved 23 highway mpg. Silverados with the four-wheel drive and a 6.2-Liter V8 engine gain a fuel economy rating of 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
Two more powertrain options are set to arrive before long, the 2.7-Liter Turbo and Duramax 3.0-Liter Turbo-Diesel engine, but the fuel efficiency has not been announced yet. The maximum towing capacity has improved by 500 pounds to 12,200 pounds when powered by the 6.2-liter V8 with av available Max Trailering Package, and there’s also an increase in payload capacity up by 14 percent. Not to mention, the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado starts at just $29,795 MSRP (plus destination fee). The 2019 Silverado production is set to expand and include the powerful Duramax 3.0-Liter inline-six turbo diesel LM2 engine by early 2019.

The newest Silverado from Chevrolet is an enhanced and thoroughly redeveloped light-duty pickup truck. By improving their truck bed, its components, adding a fresh frame and revamped interior, Chevy understood they had to define their truck bed to separate it from other companies. That’s how the Chevy “Durabed” truck bed was born. A superior option in the truck industry than what is offered with the competition. The 2019 Silverado expanded its bed size by at least 10 cubic-feet from the preceding model. The Durabed also provides Best-in-class cargo volume, box length and box depth.
What Makes the Durabed So Durable?
The Durabed is molded from a high-strength steel and manages tension better than any other truck bed Chevrolet has designed. How do they measure this? The all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado bed is so robust, it can withstand 72518.9 pounds of pressure-per-square-inch. Keep in mind, the 2019 Silverado rating is more than double the previous Silverado rating from the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado truck. This enhanced durability means buyers craving a truck that handles heavy use without dents damaging the Durabed surface will be satisfied. With more stable materials, it’s a greater product and provides more overall comfort for owners.
“The bed is the heart and soul of any pickup, so we made several improvements to the bed of the all-new Silverado to give our customers an even better hauling experience,” said Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer, Full-Size Trucks, General Motors.
Improved Fuel Economy Benefits Included
Those who choose the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado are bound to fall in love – not just because of the sleek styling. The 5.3-Liter V8 eight-speed automatic and 6.2-Liter V8 with 10-speed automatic transmission both allow more than a 5 percent improvement in city fuel economy, now reaching 17 MPG. The highway miles-per-gallon has advanced as well, striking an improved 23 mpg for the 2019 Silverado. Models with the four-wheel drive and a 6.2-Liter V8 can get a fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway highway. The upcoming 2.7-Liter Turbo and Duramax 3.0-Liter Turbo-Diesel engine fuel efficiency has not been issued, but they are probably going to be around the same or better.
What Drivers Want Most In a Pickup Is Found In the 2019 Chevy Silverado
This smooth and brilliantly engineered truck surfaced with the reveal of the all-new 2019 Silverado. The cabin has been renewed with high-level technology and a General Motors exclusive 3 x 7-inch configurable color head-up display, 8-inch configurable driver information center and rear camera mirror. The upgrades continue to the powertrain as well with added choices and new options. Every engine is paired with the selection of three available transmissions; the choice of six-, eight-, or 10-speed automatic transmission. The forthcoming 3.0-Liter diesel engine is expected later this fall, and the Crew Cab Silverado models have an improved payload up to 14 percent more. The 4.3-Liter V6 produces a maximum towing capacity of 8,000 pounds, the 5.3-Liter V8 with the Max Towing Package gives a maximum towing capacity of 11,600 pounds and the 6.2-Liter with four-wheel drive, with the Maximum Towing Package, affords owners an awesome maximum towing capacity of 12,200 pounds, an over 500 pound increase from the prior model.
Best of all, the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado starts at just $29,795 MSRP (plus destination fee) for the base trim, the Work Truck. The highest and most luxurious trim, the 2019 Silverado High Country starts at $54,495 MSRP. Come to Miami Lakes Automall to experience the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado today.
