General Motors and AT&T To Team Up For 5G

Thursday, September 9th, 2021

General Motors is setting its sights on the future with its latest announcement. The automotive company will be teaming up with AT&T to provide 5G connectivity to its lineup of vehicles over the next decade. 5G is the fifth generation of cellular technology. It has the potential to be 100 times faster than 4G. This partnership between GM and AT&T will mean that GM’s lineup will receive better software performance, enhanced navigation, and faster streaming capabilities.

General Motors Aims for 5G

5G is the next level for cellular technology. Many companies have been touting 5G as a revolutionary technology that will significantly improve data usage and connectivity. GM recognizes the capabilities of 5G, so it makes sense that they’re looking to incorporate it into their own vehicles. The only problem is that the infrastructure to house the 5G technology is not where it needs to be. This along with connectivity issues has caused some hesitation. For GM, they are looking toward the year 2024 to fully incorporate 5G technology. About this issue, the executive director of 5G connectivity at GM Thomas DeMaria said,

“It’s really not a function of what’s missing in the vehicles,” said Thomas DeMaria. “It’s more around the maturity of the 5G technology, and also the readiness of 5G.”

Thomas DeMaria, Executive Director of 5G Connectivity at GM

General Motors recognizes that 5G technology plays an important role in providing consumers software updates and that it can drastically enhance their experience. Since it is so important, GM plans to wait until 2024 so that any issues will be resolved and connectivity will work as intended. The automaker will start the introduction to its lineup in the same year, 2024. Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles will all come equipped with 5G technology. In addition, GM will update all of its model year 2019 and newer vehicles with the 5G technology. This will improve connectivity speeds and enhance vehicle software performance. DeMaria speaks more on the potential of 5G.

“The network in the vehicle systems are increasingly relying on what I would call data augmentation,” DeMaria said. “So autonomous functions, ADAS [advanced driver assist systems] functions, and other connected services, including navigation systems, increasingly are relying on supplemental data coming in from the network. So we’re going to continue to see that trend.”

Thomas DeMaria

The smart technology that operates within vehicles will become more advanced as time goes on. Self-driving cars are a hot topic that seems to move closer to reality as time goes on. They are a great example of the potential of 5G technology as their safety information relies on a fast connection. The AI used in vehicles will require the strength provided by 5G, but as of yet, the global networks in the US are not ready. GM is getting consumers ready for the next generation of technology. Their partnership with AT&T will provide their vehicles with the latest in technology and software so that consumers get the best for their buck.

Revamped 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 to Debut Soon

Thursday, August 12th, 2021

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is getting a new look. The newly revamped full-size pickup will be unveiled on September 9th, 2021. Production of the pickup will begin later in 2021 on September 20th and September 27th. For now, Chevy fans can get a closer look at some of the new features being offered.

What’s New for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500?

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will be getting several improvements to its interior and exterior. The full-sized pickup will also be getting a new architecture platform that will provide new technology features. Inside the refreshed 2022 Silverado, drivers will find an overhauled cabin with a new dash, center stack, and center console. A large infotainment screen and a digital gauge cluster also come equipped inside the pickup. Another change being made will be to the traditional column gear shifter. It will be getting replaced with a new electronic gear select system.

Looking at the exterior of the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, several minor changes can be seen. One change is a revision to the front fascia. Additional changes to the full-sized pickup include new headlamps, a redesigned tailgate, and different taillights. These will give the new pickup a distinct look that sets it apart from previous iterations.

New Global B Architecture System

One of the most drastic changes to the new 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is that it will be migrating to GM’s new Global B electrical architecture system. This new architecture will enable over-the-air updates, a feature many automakers are introducing. This new over-the-air update system will allow GM to offer consumers the latest technology features. One of these features is GM’s hands-free Super Cruise drive system which provides drivers with a level 2 autonomous system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, levels of autonomous technology range from 1-5. Since GM’s driver-assist system is a level 2, this means that it will offer semi-autonomous driver assistance. Drivers will be able to remove their hands from the steering wheel during extended periods of driving, but they should still remain alert and engaged to the road.

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 will also come alongside a new trim, the Silverado ZR2. This trim will feature an upgraded suspension, knobby tires, and underbody skid plates for better off-road performance. The full-sized pickup will debut on September 9th, 2021, but reservations have been made available already. Production of the pickup will begin on September 20th, 2021 at the GM Silao plant in Mexico as well as at the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant in Indiana on September 27th, 2021. A price hasn’t yet been determined for the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500, but estimates put the pickup between a range of $29,000-$35,000 MSRP (plus destination fee).

Chevrolet Silverado Retail Sales Going Strong

Monday, October 14th, 2019

“Retail sales of the Chevrolet Silverado are exceptionally strong, and when combined with record third-quarter retail sales of the GMC Sierra, we have the industry’s leading truck franchise,” said spokesman Tom Henderson. The battle of the pickups is underway, and the Chevrolet Silverado is amongst its contenders. On the list are Ford, Fiat Chrysler, and the Chevrolet Silverado.

The Ford F-Series has been a story lead the majority of the year holding on to second place in the truck wars, but with the third quarter in the books, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has more to crow about. GM, however, is selling more trucks. That’s in part to the Sierra line, which was up solidly for the quarter.

Although Ram sales increased during the third quarter of 2019 from 14%, which was 142,044 to 161,635, it was the Silverado who saw a significant jump. The increase was 16% (percentage-wise, it might not seem like anything), but that increase was from 133,329 in sales to 155,482. Ford’s F- Series fell 6% while Fiat Chrysler and GM saw their sales rise.

“Whatever the outcome in any one month or quarter, based on what incentives and promotions are offered, the long-run trend is for Ram to permanently surpass Chevrolet into second place,” said auto adviser and market analyst Jon Gabrielsen.

GM and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have released quarterly sales results. Something other car companies such as Acura, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi do as well. In the wake of the UAW strike against GM, the impact on the company is expected to halt the pickup truck sells.

But not to worry, GM is not giving up. Michelle Krebs, the executive analyst for Autotrader, believes that the fewer trucks being sold will affect the profits at GM in both the third and fourth quarters. Krebs believes it “since pickup trucks account for the bulk of income,” but she confidently acknowledged that “third-quarter sales results saw the limited impact from the strike because of the timing,” according to usatoday.com.

Chevrolet Silverado 2019 Stats:

The 2019 Silverado has the advantage of having a more voluminous bed in short, standard and long-box configurations. If frequently hauling is on your to-do list then you might need the extra room. The 2019 model has an ample amount of legroom for backseat passengers in its 4-door crew cab configurations.

The 2019 Silverado has a technology system that allows for safer and easier trailering. The advanced trailering package comes with a trailering app which also includes theft alert and trailer tire-pressure monitoring, hitch guidance with hitch view, making it easy to line up your hitch with your trailer without having extra help around. There is also hitch-area lighting, a trailer light test, and an auto-electric parking brake assist.

Just follow these simple rules after printing out the collection of stencils and craft the perfect pumpkin once the drawing is done. And don’t forget to have some fun!

  1. Cut a circle through either the stem end at the top of the pumpkin, or the bottom of the pumpkin to make a cap – we recommend the stem and at the top.
  2. Then, use a large spoon to scoop out the pumpkin’s innards – seeds and pulp.
  3. Follow the dotted lines when cutting out the stencil to have instructions handy. Tape the stencil onto the pumpkin and make sure it’s flat against the surface.
  4. First trace the design by poking holes with a sharp but small tool, like a needle. Now you can remove the stencil from the pumpkin.
  5. Just like a game of connect the dots, cut off your stencil. Push out the cut-out pieces (grey pieces on the stencil) by on them from within the pumpkin. Be gentle.
  6. All that’s left is to place a candle or LED light inside the pumpkin to give it that eerie glow.

The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban: Here’s What’s New

Friday, June 28th, 2019

The all-new, 12th-generation Chevrolet Suburban will launch later in the model year, not the 2020 model year as initially reported. Which means the current generation model gets to live for another model year as the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban, as it will get a few minor changes and updates. Here’s what’s 2020 Suburban has to offer.

GM Authority’s post stated the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL were still on track for 2020. However, the new word out on the street is that the next-gen GM SUVs won’t be arriving until 2021. More time to get those last minute details correct on the new model.

There are no changes to the mechanical side of the extended-length, full-size SUV, or the model line. The changes on the exterior are restricted to the deletion of the Pepperdust Metallic color as well as new finishes for the rear wheels. It has 22-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels with custom silver accents (SGK) and 22-inch Bright machined aluminum wheels with Bright Silver finish (SIY).

The 2020 Chevrolet Suburban doesn’t feature any updates or changes to the inside. The two remaining changes impact the two optional packages, as the large SUV deletes the All-Season Package and the LT Signature Package. Here’s what each of those now-deleted packages contains.

The All-Season Package, which was available only on the LS model includes a 20″ x 9″ polished aluminum wheels, Body-color bodyside moldings, P275/55R20 all-season Blackwall Tires, Black roof rack cross rails, All-weather floor mats, Max Trailering Package, and All-weather rear cargo mat. The LT Signature Package, which was available only on the LT model and it included the 20″ x 9″ chrome wheels, a Grille insert, P275/55R20 all-season Blackwall Tires, Bright bodyside moldings, Polished exhaust tip, Chrome recovery hooks, and Chrome assist step kit. That’s everything that is included on the all-season package and the signature package.

That rounds out the changes on the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban. You might have noticed that these changes look familiar. They are identical to those of the Suburban’s shorter twin, the 2020 Chevy Tahoe.

The 2020  Chevrolet Suburban will be joining the others. It will be with the Escalade, the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL will soldier on for 2020 with no changes. If GM does decide to apply any updates to the SUVs, they will probably be limited to new exterior and possibly the interior colors as well.

The next-gen GM SUVs will ride on General Motors’ new T1XX body-on-frame platform. It serves in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra and should retain the 5.3L L84 V8 and 6.2L L87 V8 engines. Also expected on the GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission is that it will appear across the board.

There might be an exclusive powertrain on the Escalade. It offers customers certain trims, such as the new 4.2-liter Blackwing twin-turbo V8. There is no official news from GM yet.

In addition to a new platform, the all next-gen GM SUVs will also benefit from the exterior and interior designs, and it has improved third-row seating,  independent rear suspension (an option or standard) and front air curtains for improved fuel efficiency. There will be another offer like the Super Cruise which will also be offered on the Escalade eventually but isn’t expected to appear on the SUV from launch. All next-gen GM SUVs will also continue to be assembled at the GM Arlington plant in Arlington, Texas.

It’s expected that the 2020 Chevrolet Suburban will launch in the third quarter of the 2019 calendar year. It will mostly have a shortened production run as the all-new, 12th-generation model is expected to launch in the first half of the 2020 calendar year as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban. The GM Arlington plant where the Suburban is assembled alongside other full-size GM SUVs was recently re-tooled to produce the all-new, future Suburban based on the T1 platform.

Corvette’s C8 Demand Has Chevy Asking For More Help

Friday, May 3rd, 2019

General Motors CEO Mary Bara has made a big announcement about the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette. It will make its debut on July 18, 2019. Well, it’s here, they’ve announced it will be adding a second shift (which is more than 400 jobs) at its Bowling Green, Kentucky assembly plant to support the production of the next generation Corvette.

General Motors has reported that the Chevrolet Corvette will continue manufacture in Bowling Green, KY after it changes into a mid-engined car. The automaker will add a second shift to the 400 new jobs to support the creation of the new model. It will bring the factory’s workforce to more than 1,300 individuals.

With all the cash that’s flowing from the site, it should surprise no one that the C8 production is remaining in the old Kentucky home. Vette aficionados are just hoping that the issues that were reported with the car’s frame (which was the mid-engine getting bent out of shape) and the electrical system (which was the current system that was being used wasn’t robust enough to carry the load that was necessary to support all of the car’s components simultaneously) are nowhere to be found in the production model. After all, this is the mid-engine C8 that has been the most anticipated new sports car in a while.

A post on the GM forum makes it appear that GM is at least thinking about producing the C7 Corvette into the 2020 model year. It’s still to be determined, but the document lists the C7 production for 2020. There’s only speculation from here on out as to what the automaker plan to do with the current-generation Corvette it introduced in 2013.

GM is in the waiting game as they are still deciding what to do with the Corvette manufacturing based on the development of the C8 Corvette. Previous reports have indicated the C8 Corvette production would start in 2019 with the 2020 model. But problems have already plagued the development process which has delayed the rollout of the vehicle.

Carbuzz.com reported that the C8 Corvette was delayed by six months due to an electrical issue. News of the delay came after GM said it would not unveil the mid-engine Corvette at the 2019 North American International Auto Show. New rumors suggest production won’t start until December of this year, three months later than previously believed.

Although there isn’t a lot going on, there are a few differences that separate it from the current symbolic object. For the new car, Chevy decided on a V-shaped badge with fewer embellishments, though only Vette fans will be able to spot the difference. To help clarify the changes the media team decided on a brief video of the logo’s evolution throughout the years.

“The Corvette’s iconic status owes so much to the men and women of Bowling Green, where it has been built exclusively for almost 40 years,” said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra. “This is the workforce that can deliver a next-generation Corvette worthy of both its historic past and an equally exciting future, and [this] announcement gets us one step closer to its reveal on July 18th.”

Bowling Green has over one million Corvettes since it opened in 1981 and has received more than $900 million worth of investment for a new body shop, increased engine capacity, new paint shop, and a new Performance Build Center. It has been reported that GM has spent around $349 million getting the plant ready to build the new C8, a task which has likely not made the switch to a mid-engine any cheaper. As for the assembly, GM has commented that their commitment to the Kentucky plant will remain strong, insinuating that “the company is indebted to the factory that has served as the Corvette’s home since 1981,” according to the truthaboutcars.com.

We still don’t know if the new workforce will be made up of previously laid-off employees from the Chevy Cruze plant in Lordstown, Ohio but it’s a possibility. Chevy dealerships have already started taking pre-orders for the new vehicle, so GM needs more employees to keep up with the anticipated demand. After months of sneaky spy shots, we can’t wait to see what the new C8 Corvette is going to look like and it’s only a few months away.

GM Powers Up 2020 Silverado HD Pickup Line

Friday, February 15th, 2019

The Chevrolet design team is listening to what their customers want. The team took into consideration and put into action, the earlier feedback they received and their customers made one message loud and clear. Make a heavy duty truck that looks very different from a light-duty; make its appearance convey power and capability, as a heavy-duty truck should be.

The 2020 Silverado HD sketches, unveiled at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show (Feb. 9-18, 2019), showed a few new specs of what the 2020 Silverado model will have. For one, it will be available in five trim levels- Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country – across 22 cab, bed, chassis and driveline configurations. Like their GMC Sierra HD siblings, it will also have the choices of two new powertrains.

The choice of having two new powertrains will give a new direct-injected gas engine with a 6-speed automatic or the turbo-diesel engine that is mated to a new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission. The diesel engine is listed at 910 lb-ft of torque, which is the same as the current L5P 6.6-liter Duramax V8 turbo-diesel. Other unique features include the new towing mirrors, LED roof-mounted heavy duty marker lights, and a handy bed-step on the side.

INCHES & DIMENSIONS:

The standard engine is a new 6.6- liter gasoline V-8 with direct injection making 401 hp and 464 pound-feet of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. According to autonews.com, “that is an 11 percent increase in horsepower and a 22 percent increase in peak torque, respectively, resulting in 18 percent more towing capability –17,400 pounds — according to GM. It replaces a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 that delivered 360 hp and 380 pound-feet of torque”.

However, something to consider is that the all-new 6.6- liter gasoline V8 engine, in the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD, will not utilize active or dynamic cylinder deactivation, according to gmauthority.com. The report also states that the new direct-injected heavy duty V8 engine will not offer an automatic engine start/stop either. But not to worry.

There’s also another optional engine costumers can choose. The 6.6-liter diesel V-8 rated at 445 hp and 910 pound-feet of torque coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed with Allison. The 2020 Silverado HD, according to GM, is 10.4 inches longer than the outgoing truck, 1.4 inches wider and 1.6 inches taller.

WHERE WILL THE ENGINES BE BUILT?:

The Duramax diesel engine will be built at its jointly operated DMAX facility in Moraine, Ohio. The 10-speed transmission will be produced at GM’s Toledo Transmission plant in Ohio. The 6.6-liter gas engine and six-speed transmission will be produced at the automaker’s Tonawanda Engine plant in Buffalo, N.Y.

TAKE A CLOSER LOOK:

From what has been shown of the teaser image, the new 2020 Silverado HD has a Z71 badge on the grille. That badge defines that the Silverado will be a proper off-road truck on offer, straight from the factory. Z71 optioned trucks make for great adventures, as they are great at getting to remote trailheads.

The front grille of the Silverado HD looks to be highly influenced by the 2019 Silverado 1500 Work truck lineup. Goodbye, famous Chevy Bowtie. That is now replaced with “Chevrolet” stamped promptly across the grille.

The lettering is also cut out, which allows more air to cool the engine. And you might find similarities with the 2019 Silverado HD. This setup is similar to the “Flowtie,” which was introduced on the 2018 Camaro ZL1 and carried over to the 2019 Silverado (4500/5500/6500) HD trucks.

Chevrolet Shifts Focus to Electric Vehicles

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Bolt EV Charging

Well, there’s some interesting news going down over at Chevrolet, under the automotive umbrella of the General Motors group. If unawares, General Motors is starting to pick up their slack when it comes to getting on the bandwagon for zero emission propulsion and powertrains. With the upsurge of electrified and alternative fuel vehicles estimated in the coming years, GM is not one to fall behind, and with Chevrolet already having moderate success in alternative fuel with the Chevrolet Bolt EV, a large change is about to take place. Chevy will be shifting away from the Chevrolet Camaro to focus on electrified vehicles (EVs).

Competitor automotive group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has already unveiled their plans for going electric with many vehicles already underway. To keep up, GM is making some decisive moves. Car and Driver were there to report on the newest announcement.

“Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer and spiritual leader of the Chevrolet Camaro program for more than a decade, is moving to General Motors’ newly formed AV/EV organization to focus on zero-emission-vehicle development.”

AirBnB For Car Owners? GM Aims To Expand Their Maven App

Friday, March 23rd, 2018

Maven-App-Miami-Lakes-Automall

If you’ve ever thought about renting out your current vehicle while you’re away on vacation or not going to be around to use your vehicle, you’re not alone. GM vehicles are about to be in the car-owner, car-rental business at some point this summer as they GM expands their Maven app program to a large audience.

Who Is This Maven and What Does It Do?

Maven is a program that allows GM owners to rent out their vehicle. According to Bloomberg news reports, a top-notch campaign is being assembled to promote this program further. Already established as Maven, the company provides users the ability to have rent vehicles out to drivers at $8 an hour plus tax from other users. Drivers simply use the Maven app that’s available on iOS and Android markets to enjoy the perks of renting out whichever car is around and allows two distinct features.

Two Choices For Maven Members

Maven Gig lets users rent out their vehicle for ride sharing and delivery driving or Maven Sharing can be selected to ride around for personal use. Simply, download the app, choose your car and drive away. The only catch is you’ll have to return the vehicle to location you picked up the vehicle.

Four vehicle types exist from Eco, Compact Sedan and SUV. This groundbreaking mobility program is already changing the industry of what could be next to follow for widespread appeal for other companies to get involved. Originally starting in Ann Arbor, Michigan back at the start of 2016, this was a great idea to expand the use of vehicle usage and help owners make some money on the side while renting out vehicles they weren’t using. Costs like fuel, parking, insurance and maintenance all go into account as well.

Who Can Use Maven?

Maven users must be 18 years or older, apply to be approved as an official Maven member, possess a valid U.S. state issued driver’s license that isn’t suspended, and meet additional eligibility requirements. With turn around times as short as two business days, owners and drivers can become a Maven member in no time. This program has been expanding outside of Michigan and will look to become a full fledged part of the modern world. It’s no longer weird to stay at someone’s condo or house, as it’s no longer to rent out their vehicle. Welcome to the 21st century!

If you’ve wanted to experience driving a new vehicle and have wanted to Uber, but didn’t want to drive around your city, you can now allow Maven to be your side money making this summer. Of course, if you don’t want to rent out your vehicle for any reason we will still recommend one place to get your vehicle.
