Chevrolet is looking to make changes to its current line-up. The focus has turned from sedans to the production of more popular consumer choices. Over the years, Chevrolet has removed the Chevy Cruze and Impala with the 2019 model year being the last. The Chevrolet Sonic and Chevrolet Malibu are the only two remaining sedan options for customers. The results of this have had some effects that led to some success for the Malibu.

The Sales Success of the Chevrolet Malibu

Among the future vehicle choices General Motors, parent company of Chevrolet, and Chevy are deciding on, the fate of the Chevy Malibu is in the air. The newest Malibu is currently in its ninth-generation and had a recent refresh just over a year ago for the 2019 model year. With the refresh, but sales have not come close to the numbers expected despite posting a 3 percent growth in the first-quarter of 2020, ahead of the 2019 first-quarter sales numbers.

Comparing last year’s sales, which produced 34,197 vehicles sold, to 35,283 vehicles sold this year. Those numbers reflect a higher sales number than so many other vehicles in the midsize segment. The 2020 Chevy Malibu surpassed Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, and Subaru rival cars. However, compared to 2016, when the Malibu sold 227,881 units. The most recent years have not drawn numbers like that despite less competition.

The 2023 Malibu Will Be the Last One?

Chevrolet remains committed to building new EV and AV vehicles with a focus on spending attention on those technologies. A report has come out that said another refresh was expected to come in 2023 with a new generation coming out in 2025. Now, that has possibly been changed. A rumor has also named the Chevrolet Sonic as another vehicle set to be discontinued. The United States is the last remaining market where it’s still sold, following its discontinuation around the world. Even the two vehicles that have been at the top of all sedan sales, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord have seen a dropoff in sales.  An eight-percent drop off in 2019 will be topped by an expected 15 percent drop in 2020.

Currently, customers can drive the 2020 Chevy Malibu and find its attractive low-cost at only $22,140 MSRP (Plus destination fee). The 2020 Malibu boasts solid fuel efficiency at 29 city mpg and 36 highway mpg. Two engine types are available with a 1.5-Liter 4-Cylinder engine and a 2.0-LIter 4-Cylinder option. Curious to know more about the Malibu? We have the new 2020 Chevrolet Malibu ready for our customers to experience today.

What Vehicle Should Be Your Teen Drivers First?

Wednesday, November 7th, 2018

The holidays are coming up and now is when many parents may want to start planning ahead for their teenager to get a car of their own. Whether that vehicle is new or pre-owned is a decision, but we hope to make that choice easier. Among many other choices, parents will have to make sure they provide a safe vehicle for their teenager that’s also fun and modern. Let’s go over some of our very own considerations a parent should make with any new driver as well as research conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Buying New or Pre-Owned?

Without a doubt, this is the hardest choice. Many parents will want to supply their kids with only the best, but giving the keys to a new car while the parents drive an older vehicle should hardly seem fair. Consider buying a new vehicle for yourself as a hard-working parent and handing over the older vehicle to your new driver. Helping them with any remaining payments and allowing them to work towards paying it off will allow them to learn what it means to have to earn things aka parenting 101. After all, this way everybody wins!

The likelihood of a teen driver getting into an accident is almost impossible to avoid, and if the current vehicle a parent is driving is suitable for them, surely it should be safe enough and less expensive to repair if the vehicle is damaged. At Miami Lakes Automall, we can help supply the parents with a new vehicle to replace the hand-me-down and matches their preferences and accommodates their respective needs. Of course, there’s the other argument – what if my teenager’s pre-owned vehicle breaks down? It’s more likely they will get into a fender-bender than their vehicle will just suddenly break down.

Pros of Buying A New Vehicle For A Teenager

Texting and driving will almost certainly happen once a teen driver is on the road alone, so a modern vehicle might make sense. Today’s features include hands-free phone use with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, whereas a used vehicle might not carry the modern technology that could help lower a parent’s heart rate. Being able to know that their teen will be able to use the latest tech and not be a distracted driver, as well as make them safer with the latest safety technology, is good for a parent’s health. Lane-Change Assist and Lane-Keep Assist technology have become standard in many vehicles over the past several years, which is perfect for new drivers who might not be comfortable driving on highways or on unfamiliar roads. There’s no argument against parents wanting the best for their deserving child, except for when it comes to the IIHS and practical research that argues for getting an older and larger vehicle.

Why You Should Buy A Pre-Owned Vehicle For Your New Driver

Smaller new vehicles might cost less but do not provide the best results for new drivers. Among the car list made by the IIHS for teen drivers, midsize cars or larger vehicles that cost $10,000 or less are on the list. The IIHS evaluates passenger vehicles of all sizes for their TOP SAFETY PICK awards, and the larger the vehicle, the greater the protection it can offer.

“Teen drivers are at greater risk, due to immaturity and inexperience behind the wheel. If you’re riding in one of the smallest vehicles on the road, you’ll be at a disadvantage in a crash with almost any other vehicle around you. ” says Jessica Cicchino, IIHS Vice President for Research.

We recommend coming in for a test-drive of our latest Chevrolet vehicles like a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, fuel efficient and spacious. A new Chevrolet Malibu is another option for the perfect starter vehicle for a teenage driver, which we’ll be happy to show off.

2019 Chevy Malibu Receives Camaro Facelift

Tuesday, October 16th, 2018

Chevrolet has made many vehicles stand out with their remarkable performance. Sometimes the exterior design might not highlight the true value and performance offered for what’s under the hood. That will no longer be the case for the Chevy Malibu. A new front grille will be added to the midsize car, based off the sixth generation Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Undoubtedly, the Camaro is one of the most dynamically designed GM muscle cars of the present era and perhaps one of the most aggressive looking Chevy products. With an angular lower edge to effectively channel air up through the massive grille, this signature Camaro look has been replicated for the latest Malibu. A company that is known for making specialty hoods, AeroNine, has also made their mark on the latest 2019 Chevy Malibu.

AeroNine Makes a Malibu Look Like a ZL1

The current, ninth-generation Chevy Malibu is an incredible midsize sedan, as Chevrolet did make an effort to improve the look of the 2019 Malibu with a facelift. Produced by kit maker AeroNine, the aftermarket fascia gives the Malibu a look very much reminiscent of Chevy’s sixth-generation Camaro ZL1, with a small gap right below the narrow grille opening, which holds the bow tie, known as the Chevrolet logo.

The front end of this body kit package looks just like the front end of the latest Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The wide lower grille is in between two smaller inlets, each housing vertical LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL). Four UltraSonic parking sensors – two at the midline of the front fascia, and two near the lower lip have been added the AeroNine body kit, and a bold valance style gives the package into an indistinguishable look. While the Chevy Malibu headlights have been retained for the new model year, the upper and lower grille are changed to look like the Camaro ZL1. Multiple items are similar to the Chevrolet ZL1 in fact, like a set of slotted vents with LED trim as well as the bottom of the front fascia with its sporty chin spoiler.

While the current Chevy Malibu is not comparable to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in terms of high-performance power, that doesn’t mean owners can change the look. The front end design of the supercharged muscle car can be replicated to the front end of the mid-size Chevy sedan with the AeroNine body kit. For those that have a newer Chevy Malibu and want it to share the front end design akin to the Camaro ZL1, this package is ready to add more curb appeal to their Malibu.

More on the 2019 Chevy Malibu

Among the top tier sedans for the Chevrolet lineup is the new 2019 Chevy Malibu. The 2019 Chevy Malibu has been awarded by J.D. Power as the “Most Dependable Midsize Car” based on a survey of 2015 models. Drivers will cherish the Malibu Premier trim that offers a powerful 250-horsepower 2.0-Liter turbocharged ECOTEC engine that is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and boasts front wheel drive. The 2019 Chevy Malibu comes standard across all trims with engines that are joined to a continuously variable transmission to support and boost fuel efficiency. For those hoping to drive the latest Chevy vehicles, there’s only one place to go!

Refreshes and Updates to 2019 Chevy Models

Thursday, April 12th, 2018

With new 2019 models slowly coming out, an early spot belongs to the changes Chevy has made some changes to a few of their models. “We are committed to offering consumers a full lineup of products with fresh designs, new technologies and efficient powertrain options.” said Brian Sweeney, U.S. Vice President of Chevrolet. Here’s a look at the newest refresh and updates to some of the most exciting vehicles offered by Chevrolet.

2019 Chevy Spark

The 2019 Chevy Spark was given a facelift and its new grille makes the Spark look more like the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Malibu with more chrome than before and the available projector headlights now placed lower than before. A new addition to the dual-elemental tail lights helps the 2019 Chevy Spark stand out more than before and buyers also have new available exterior color options.. Low Speed Automatic Braking is a new added available safety feature that helps prevent accidents. Low Speed Automatic Braking alerts drivers when the system senses a forward speed collision is possible and the system can apply brakes if the driver takes no action.

2019 Chevy Cruze

The 2019 Chevy Cruze has been refreshed with a new face design that has more chrome and added LED accent lighting on the premium trim. The 2019 Chevy Cruze also received remote state, a new wheel design and the Chevy Infotainment 3 that’s implemented into the now standard 7-inch touchscreen. Additionally, there is a new Umber interior color and black window molding. All of of this adds to the personality of the Cruze as noted by John Cafaro, executive director of Global Chevrolet Design, “Cruze’s refreshed styling gives Cruze a more upscale look while maintaining its Chevrolet design DNA”.

2019 Chevy Malibu

There have been considerable changes made to the 2019 Chevy Malibu and they exceed the changes to the 2019 Chevy Cruze and 2019 Chevy Spark mentioned above.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of a new mid-tier trim, the RS trim. The RS is in between the 1LS and LT trims. Starting price for the 2019 Chevy Malibu RS is going to be around $25,000 and the new trim includes 18-inch machined wheels, a rear spoiler, black sports grille , a black bowtie with dual exhausts. Inside there is a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, black cloth seats and a standard 8-inch infotainment screen.

Consumers can expect standard 8-inch standard touchscreens for the entire 2019 lineup as well as a rear vision camera. Exterior changes include new wheels ranging from 16-18 inches, a new front end design and new exterior and interior colors.

2019 will be a big year for Chevy and we’re excited to see the upcoming 2019 Chevy vehicles at Miami Lakes Automall.

10 Chevy Models Ranked in Top Three in J.D. Power Dependability Study

Monday, February 19th, 2018

There’s a lot of different factors consumers consider before making a vehicle purchase, and one factor that is important to almost all consumers is dependability, so why not go with a Chevy model? J.D. Power recently released the results from the 2018 Dependability Study and Chevy did AWESOME.

Chevrolet (tied with Hyundai) was ranked as the sixth most dependable brand, four Chevy models were ranked most dependable in their class and six other Chevy models ranked in the top three of their class – that’s extremely impressive.

Chevy Dependability

Overall, Chevy had 124 problems per 100 cars, which made it (and Hyundai) the sixth best ranked brand out of 31 brands and Chevy had more top three segment rankings in this year’s study than any other automaker.

In individual car segments four Chevy models had the lowest number of problems per 100 cars, and only one other brand had four models with the best score in their classes. The Chevy Silverado ranked best in the light-duty truck segment; the Chevy Equinox ranked best in the compact SUV segment; the Chevy Traverse ranked best in the midsize SUV segment; and the Chevy Malibu ranked best in the midsize car segment.

Also, six Chevy models finished top three in their segment and they include the Chevy Sonic (small car), Chevy Camaro (midsize sporty car), Chevy Impala (large car), Chevy Trax (small SUV), Chevy Tahoe (large SUV) and Chevy Silverado HD (heavy-duty truck).

What’s special about Chevy’s high dependability scores is that Chevy doesn’t just focus on creating similar variations of their products, but they produce dependable models in 10 of the 14 possible segments (6 segments only look at luxury brands).

J.D. Power Dependability Study

J.D. Power conducts a number of customer surveys every year and for the dependability study, owners are asked about the number of problems their three-year-old (2015 model year) vehicle has. That data is then translated into problems per 100 cars, and the vehicles and brands with the lowest number of problems per cars are the ones ranked highest. The dependability study is one of the major automotive J.D. Power studies because it provides consumers with an idea of how their car experience might be in the long run, rather than the first year or first few months of ownership.

A Banner Year for Chevy Vehicles

2016 Chevy Awards

2016 Chevy Awards

2016 has been an all around great and well-rounded year for Chevy. They won tons of awards, they had the MOTOR TREND 2016 Car and Truck of the Year, and they released the brand’s first all-electric vehicle, and it is pretty impressive. Check it out.

J.D. Power Awards

JD Power Awards are a big deal and in 2016, seven Chevy models earned awards and Chevy took home more J.D. Power Initial Quality and Dependability awards than any other brand. The Chevy Malibu, Chevy Silverado HD, Chevy Camaro and Chevy Equinox all earned the title as “Most Dependable” in their class and the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Spark, Chevy Silverado HD, Chevy Silverado LD and Chevy Equinox were all named “Highest Ranked in Initial Quality” in their class. Basics of EVs, PHEVs and Hybrid Vehicles + Green Chevy Models

Thursday, October 20th, 2016

Last week we discussed the 2017 Chevy hybrids, PHEVs and EVs, but all of that can seem like a lot of “talk” if you don’t really know the differences between each of those systems or the benefits to owning a “greener” vehicle. In addition to just saving you money in annual fuel costs, vehicles powered by alternative fuels also have fewer emissions and a new way of measuring fuel economy.

First, it is important to understand the difference between hybrids, PHEVs and electric vehicles.

A hybrid is a vehicle that can run on battery, gas, or a combination of both. They are usually equipped with a gas engine, electric motor, and battery.

Chevy’s available hybrid is the Chevy Malibu Hybrid. You can search out Chevy Malibu inventory here.

A plug-in electric hybrid, or PHEV, is equipped with a gas engine, electric motor, and battery. Like a hybrid, a PHEV can also run on only electric, only gas or a combination of both, but the battery in PHEVs is larger so it can power the vehicle on electricity much longer than hybrids, but the larger battery needs to be plugged-in to be recharged.

Chevy’s available PHEV is the 2016/2017 Chevy Volt. You can search our Chevy Volt inventory here.

An electric vehicle, or EV, runs purely on an electricity that is supplied by a battery. It needs to be plugged-in to be recharged. (more…)

Miami Lakes Chevy 2017 PHEV EV Hybrid

Miami Lakes Chevy 2017 PHEV EV Hybrid

Chevy has joined the evolving world of electric and hybrid vehicles, and they’re making a lot of noise with their awesome line up of hybrids, PHEVs, and EVs. Already out for the 2017 model year is the 2017 Chevy Volt, 2017 Chevy Malibu Hybrid, and soon-to-be-released, the all-electric Chevy Bolt EV. Check ‘em out.

2017 Chevy Bolt EV

For those not in the know, “EV” stands for electric vehicle, and the all-new 2017 Chevy Bolt is an all-electric zero emissions vehicle with quite the range. Chevy shocked everyone when they released specs on how far the Bolt can go. On a fully charged battery, the Bolt has a range of 238 miles, which is 25 more miles than the Tesla Model 3 is expected to get (when it is released). Additionally, the Bolt can charge about 25 miles for every hour of charging when using a 240-volt charger (the fast option).

Chevy’s New ‘Cooling Pocket’ Improves Phone Battery Life

Friday, July 24th, 2015

I’m sure you’re familiar with the issue. You’re using your phone too much, and it begins to overheat. Maybe you left your phone in the sun too long, causing it to get hot. Maybe you’ve done absolutely nothing to your phone, but it still decides to warm up. Many smartphones now have a built-in thermal sensor that will shut down your device when it gets too hot. This is especially frustrating in cars, as drivers often rely on their phones for navigation, music, or calling others.

You’re not alone, as phone overheating is a common occurrence. Luckily, Chevy has developed a ‘cooling pocket,’ assuring that your phone will never get hot again… at least while it’s in a car. For those living in Florida, this could be a particularly important feature. When you’re finished reading this post, you’ll be convinced that you need to visit your local Chevrolet dealers in Miami as soon as possible!
