Chevrolet Shifts Focus to Electric Vehicles

Miami Lakes Automall 2019 Bolt EV Charging

Well, there’s some interesting news going down over at Chevrolet, under the automotive umbrella of the General Motors group. If unawares, General Motors is starting to pick up their slack when it comes to getting on the bandwagon for zero emission propulsion and powertrains. With the upsurge of electrified and alternative fuel vehicles estimated in the coming years, GM is not one to fall behind, and with Chevrolet already having moderate success in alternative fuel with the Chevrolet Bolt EV, a large change is about to take place. Chevy will be shifting away from the Chevrolet Camaro to focus on electrified vehicles (EVs).

Competitor automotive group Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has already unveiled their plans for going electric with many vehicles already underway. To keep up, GM is making some decisive moves. Car and Driver were there to report on the newest announcement.

“Al Oppenheiser, chief engineer and spiritual leader of the Chevrolet Camaro program for more than a decade, is moving to General Motors’ newly formed AV/EV organization to focus on zero-emission-vehicle development.”

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Jeez, it’s only been a few weeks since the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was showcased by the General Motors Corporation. With many trim levels for the 2019 model year and many powertrains, consumers could get a Silverado pickup truck designed for their needs and purposes. Around the same time, the Chevrolet Silverado was voted as “Truck of the Year” by editors and writers from AutoGuide who took the Chevy Silverado for a test drive. Well, Chevrolet must be listening to their consumers, because soon after they unveiled the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD was announced to debut in February 2019.

For those keeping count, this is the third all-new Silverado model from Chevrolet in just 18 months. Being the HD model, not only is it a very capable pickup truck of the lineup, but the 2020 model is said to be the most capable and advanced Silverado HD ever. Just another Silverado model to appeal to the variety of Chevrolet customers…or is it?

Set to be built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, the new Silverado HD will be starting off with a bolder body sculpted for the heavy-duty functionality it gets its name for. Although some may confuse it with the Silverado 1500, aside from the roof, every piece of sheet metal is exclusive to Silverado HD. Built from the ground-up, this assembly plant is going to have a lot of work to meet the standards of Chevrolet and Chevrolet consumers.

Towing Comparison: 2018 Chevrolet vs 2018 Ford

Tuesday, February 6th, 2018

2018-Ford-Vs-Chevy-Trucks-Miami-Lakes-Automall

What does it mean for owners when they learn their truck is the most powerful in class in terms of towing and payload? One way to know is to see in action just what that looks like.

Do drivers of trucks truly notice the power and performance? Chevy thought testing out their truck against one of their biggest competitors, Ford, would show off the difference, but we’ll take a closer look to see how much of a difference there is between Chevy and the competition.

Drag Race Comparison

The Ford F-350 Super Duty couldn’t quite hang with the Chevy Silverado 3500HD in a straight line quarter mile drag race. While the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD was able to prove how much faster it can move while towing the same amount of weight, winning in a drag race, there’s additional features that show how much better Chevrolet trucks can be over their competition. (Although, it’s never a bad thing to win a race against your competition.)

New Features for the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD

When you have a powerful vehicle like the new 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500HD, you know you can tow just about anything, but the truck’s premium features aren’t just about what you can move outside of the vehicle. You’ll be moved with what you find inside the vehicle, from a spacious cabin that has the updated MyLink system with available 8-inch touchscreen and a 6-speaker Bose audio system. The truck also has rear backup cameras to allow for easier loading on the truck bed with front and rear park assist.

Closer Look At The Various Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Trims

From the Regular Cab, Crew Cab and Double Cab, to regular or long beds, there are numerous ways to craft your specific 2018 Chevy Silverado 3500HD. Even options like gasoline or diesel engines and two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive are available options for an owner to decide on.

The Chevrolet 3500 HD trim levels range from the base-level Work Truck to mid-level LT and the further upscale LTZ to the premium trim, the luxurious High Country. The MyLink with 7-inch touchscreen comes standard for every Silverado 3500HD as well as Bluetooth, Apple Carplay, Android Auto and rear backup camera. The Silverado 3500HD LT offers upgrades ranging from an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen and power mirrors and power windows, which don’t come standard on the Silverado 3500HD Work Truck trim.

The Silverado 3500HD LTZ is available as a Double Cab or Crew Cab with standard leather seating, heated front seats and fog lights with a 110-volt outlet. Power-sliding rear window with defroster is also included.

The upgraded Silverado 3500HD High Country trim has full-leather front bucket seats with a navigation system and it is only available with a Crew Cab. Additionally, the Silverado 3500HD has a different interior design and center console than the rest of the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD line-up.

What To Expect

As the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD showcases tremendous towing power, there’s no mistaking how important a vehicle’s towing capacity and ability to move quickly comes into play. Whether driving up a mountain or pushing 13,000 pounds of cargo across the country, having a reliable heavy duty truck that’s capable of making the journey safely is the goal for all drivers and that’s exactly what you’ll be able to expect with the Silverado 3500 HD.

If you want to see what it feels like to have a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD in your hands, experience the power and performance with a test-drive with us at Miami Lakes Automall. If your dream is to own a Chevy, we’d love to make it happen. Stop by today and we’ll be ready. Would a Crossover or SUV Suit You Better?

Tuesday, February 6th, 2018

18CHCB35142_v2.tif

If you are ready to finally trade-in the car that was given to you by your parents, and you want an SUV you may be feeling a little confused on which SUV you want to buy or lease. There are dozens of makes and models available and to see them all you would need to spend a ton of time driving around from dealership to dealership, unless you go to Miami Lakes Automall.

Miami Lakes Automall is one of the few dealerships in South Florida that has seven brands located in one location. We have vehicles made by Chevy, Mitsubishi, Kia, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge and Ram, and each brand (except Ram and Chrysler) manufactures SUVs and crossovers.

Crossovers

Crossovers are one of the newest, fastest growing and most popular segments in the auto industry. Crossovers are versatile vehicles that offer space for passengers and cargo, but they are more fuel efficient and give drivers a little more control in comparison to a big vehicle like an SUV or truck.

Chevy manufactures two crossovers, the Chevy Equinox and the Chevy Trax. The Equinox was redesigned for the 2018 model year and it is available with a couple different engine options, including the new available diesel engine that gives the Equinox a highway fuel economy of 41 MPG.

The Fiat Chrysler Automobile umbrella includes four crossovers, three made by Jeep and one made by Dodge. The three available Jeep crossovers include the fun-to-drive Cherokee and modern new Compass and Renegade, and each of those models is available as a Trailhawk trim, which is a trim specifically designed for going off-road.

If warranty is an important feature to you, the crossovers made by Mitsubishi and Kia should definitely be on your list. Both Kia and Mitsubishi offer an industry-leading powertrain warranty  of 100,000 miles or 10 years. Mitsubishi’s crossover is the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, and Kia makes two crossovers, the Kia Niro and the Kia Sorento. The Kia Niro is a new hybrid crossover that’s stylish and fuel efficient, and later this year, a plug-in hybrid electric version will be available.

SUVs

If you are in need of a vehicle that can fit 5-7 people, is available with four-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive and has some towing power, an SUV may be the best option and Miami Lakes Automall has a large selection of SUVs.

Two of the largest SUVs on the market are made by Chevy and they are the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban. Both models offer seating for up to nine passengers, more than 90 cubic feet of cargo space and a towing capacity of more than 6,600 pounds. If you want to stick with Chevy, but don’t need an SUV quite as large as the Tahoe or Suburban, there is also the available Chevy Traverse and Chevy Equinox.

Jeep is dedicated to SUVs and crossovers, and the full-size Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV on the market. This year the Grand Cherokee is celebrating its 25th anniversary and it is available in a number of different trims including the off-road trim, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, the luxury trim, the Grand Cherokee Summit, or the all-new 707-horsepower Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which is the most powerful and quickest SUV ever.

Dodge only offers one SUV, the Dodge Durango, but it’s available with so many options that one SUV is all Dodge needs to offer. The Dodge Durango is available with two or three rows of seats and three different engine options. The available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine gives the Durango a maximum towing capacity of 7,400 pounds, and the new 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine boosts the Durango’s maximum towing capacity up to a best-in-class 8,700 pounds.

Want to see what a crossover or SUV feels like behind the wheel? Visit Miami Lakes Automall and take a couple models on a test drive to find out which models feel most comfortable to you. We are open seven days a week and we are conveniently located in Miami Lakes, which is between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Chevy Silverado and Chevy Colorado Snag Two New Awards

Thursday, January 25th, 2018

2018 Silverado 2500 HD Deep Ocean Blue Metallic LTZ Z71 Crew Cab

Just because Chevrolet has one of the largest model lineups on the market offering everything from trucks to sedans to sportscars, doesn’t mean Chevy doesn’t spend time to make sure each of their products is top-of-the-line. Every model Chevy produces is meant to be one of the best models in its class, and that’s always apparent with Chevy trucks.

Just recently, two Chevy trucks earned awards. The 2018 Chevy Colorado ZR2 was named Four Wheeler’s 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year, which is the first time the truck has earned the award. Additionally, Kelly Blue Book recognized four Chevy models for their excellent resale value. The 2018 Chevy Silverado and 2018 Chevy Tahoe were both given the title as Best Resale Value in their class and KBB.com ranked the 2018 Chevy Colorado and the 2018 Chevy Silverado in the Top 10 for Best Resale Value.

Chevy Trucks

Chevy is currently celebrating its 100th year in the truck industry. Chevy’s truck legacy began in 1918 with the 1918 One-Ton and 100 years later, the Chevy truck lineup includes the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500, the heavy-duty Silverado 2500 and 3500 and the mid-size truck, the Chevy Colorado.

Chevy Colorado

While the Silverado trucks have been around for decades, the Colorado is the newest to join the lineup. The Chevy Colorado was introduced in 2002 and production was halted after the 2012 model year, and then the Colorado returned to production lines in 2014. Ever since the Colorado’s return it has been earning awards and experiencing great sales. The Colorado is a versatile truck that offers consumers a fuel efficient, five-passenger pickup truck option that has enough towing power to take care of a variety of hauling tasks.

The Chevy Colorado is currently available in four trims, the Colorado WT, Colorado LT, Colorado ZR2 and the Colorado Z71, and there are three engine options. The 2018 Colorado ZR2 (the trim named Four Wheeler’s 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year) is celebrating its first year of production. The Colorado ZR2 trim is designed to be an off-road truck and it has all of the equipment to handle any type of terrain.

The Colorado ZR2 is available with two different engines, a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine. To give the Colorado ZR2 better off-road capabilities of other mid-size pickup trucks on the market, the Colorado ZR2 has a ground clearance of 8.9 inches, which is two inches more than the ground clearance on other Chevy Colorado trucks. To protect important truck equipment from rocks, water and other types of debri that might damage the truck when off-roading, the Colorado ZR2 is equipped with front and rear locking differentials, as well as protective rock sliders and enhanced bumpers.

Chevy Silverado

The Chevy Silverado 1500 has consistently been one of the top three light-duty pickup trucks in its class. The Silverado 1500 is available in three cab options and in six different trims, the Silverado 1500 WT, Silverado 1500 LS, Silverado 1500 CS, Silverado 1500 Custom, Silverado 1500 LT, Silverado 1500 LTZ and the Silverado 1500 High Country. When the Silverado 1500 is equipped with the NHT max trailering package, it offers best in class max towing of 12,500 pounds.

One major reason consumers like the Silverado 1500 so much is because it is more than just a strong truck. The Silverado 1500 includes safety, tech, entertainment and convenience features that aren’t typically priorities by other truck manufacturers. The Silverado comes standard with a rearview camera, six airbags, the Teen Driver feature, and aero active shutters.

Basics of EVs, PHEVs and Hybrid Vehicles + Green Chevy Models

Thursday, October 20th, 2016
hybrid-evs-miami-lakes-chevy

hybrid-evs-miami-lakes-chevy

Last week we discussed the 2017 Chevy hybrids, PHEVs and EVs, but all of that can seem like a lot of “talk” if you don’t really know the differences between each of those systems or the benefits to owning a “greener” vehicle. In addition to just saving you money in annual fuel costs, vehicles powered by alternative fuels also have fewer emissions and a new way of measuring fuel economy.

First, it is important to understand the difference between hybrids, PHEVs and electric vehicles.

A hybrid is a vehicle that can run on battery, gas, or a combination of both. They are usually equipped with a gas engine, electric motor, and battery.

Chevy’s available hybrid is the Chevy Malibu Hybrid. You can search out Chevy Malibu inventory here.

A plug-in electric hybrid, or PHEV, is equipped with a gas engine, electric motor, and battery. Like a hybrid, a PHEV can also run on only electric, only gas or a combination of both, but the battery in PHEVs is larger so it can power the vehicle on electricity much longer than hybrids, but the larger battery needs to be plugged-in to be recharged.

Chevy’s available PHEV is the 2016/2017 Chevy Volt. You can search our Chevy Volt inventory here.

An electric vehicle, or EV, runs purely on an electricity that is supplied by a battery. It needs to be plugged-in to be recharged. (more…)
