2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer Review: It May Be Small But It’s Not Short

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer is the latest entry for the brand currently known for making compact SUVs and trucks as a specialty. In previous model years, the car was promoted as a midsize SUV, but recently, it seems to have been making a transition to a compact of sorts. This intention is further emphasized with more design elements and distinct curved lines.

Other cool highlighting features include its generous amount of room for the rear and cargo area, the distinct Activ and RS trim levels, and exciting technologies.

Interior and Technology

The newest Trailblazer’s interior styling is comparable to other crossovers from the brand, with one familiar feature being its black plastic switchgear. The Activ trim also adds some charming touches such as a near cloth design on the front doors and dash trim with a brown coating, meanwhile, the RS model receives a leather steering wheel with a flat-bottom and red interior accents. An 8-way power driver seat is available, it makes it possible for a more movement, long-range, which taller drivers will appreciate.

The cabin has a wide range of nifty technological features like a standard 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an available 8-inch version. Both touchscreens have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With wireless capability, users will enjoy the phone charging pad, as it allows them to store their phones in a cubby near the shifter. The company also offers its rearview camera mirror as an option.

Engine and Performance

Trailblazing shoppers are offered two different engine options involving three-cylinder turbochargers. The base model has a 1.2-liter engine and provides 137 horsepower with 162 lb-ft of torque. It also includes front-wheel-drive and a continuously variable transmission.

The upgraded engine pushes out 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. Again, front-wheel-drive and the continuously variable transmission is standard but there is an available all-wheel-drive system that teams up with a 9-speed automatic.

The overall drive is stable and the comfort-tuned dampers help in enhancing the overall ride. It fairs pretty well on both the main road and dirt roads, and if that ability serves as a priority for a buyer, then it’s recommended that they opt for the Activ trim.

Cargo space has a lavish 25.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 54.4 cubic feet when the seats in the second-row are down. The passenger seats also fold flat for items that are extra long. Overall, the 2021 Trailblazer’s cargo room is significantly better than its competitors.

Safety Equipment and Crash Ratings

In a lot of ways, the Trailblazer is more of a family car than it is an off-road vehicle, especially with its impressive list of driver assistance features such as the highlighting Chevy Safety Assist, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, a distance indicator, automatic high beams, and a rear-seat reminder. More features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning, and rear parking sensors can be added on.

The reliability of the Chevy’s new almost compact was proven by its ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Trailblazer received a four-star crash test rating and five stars for side crash tests. The truck also received four stars in front of front crash and rollover tests.

Trim Prices and Features

The base L trim has a starting price of $19,995, (plus destination fee) and comes with 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlights/taillights, a manual liftgate, manual cloth seats, a 7-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system.

The most affordable all-wheel-drive model comes in at $24,595, (plus destination fee), tacking on the more advanced 1.3-liter engine, nine-speed automatic, 17-inch aluminum wheels, carpeted floor mats, six-speaker audio system and the flat-folding passenger seat.

The Activ all-wheel-drive model is priced at $25,995 and includes an off-road appearance package (including a skid plate), leather-wrapped interior bits and a bunch of interior prizes like heated power seats and the upgraded eight-inch infotainment system. At the same time, the RS all-wheel-drive is priced the same but does away with the off-road features.

What It’s Like To Drive The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Slowly but surely, the popularity of sedans and coupes have seen a steep decline in North American sales, particularly in favor of small crossover SUVs. These days automakers are putting a heavy emphasis on all-inclusive features like advanced infotainment and safety features, ample space for both passengers and cargo, and overall good mileage. According to Forbes, some compacts prove to be “as dull as dishwater”, so with the resurgence of Chevrolet’s 2021 Trailblazer, one can only wonder if it can stand out in the automotive market. The brand is already known for its heavy emphasis on SUVs and trucks, such as with its favored Colorado and Traverse. Luckily, it already wins some cool points for its incredibly low starting price of just roughly $20,000, (plus destination fee).

The latest Trailblazer is available in five trims levels: The budget-friendly L, the more indulgent-friendly LS and LT, the slightly posh RS, and somewhat off-road adept ACTIV. When driving you’ll find the subcompact to be quite comfortable in all versions.

It looks quite comparable to that of the larger Blazer, especially with Chevy’s familiar dual-port grille squeezing between the front headlights, as well as its sleek and trim roofline, and a couple of creases along the sides that add to its intense appearance. The liftgate in the back includes taillights that slightly wrap around and hands-free functionality.

The interior provides the spaciousness and comfort that is expected of a modern SUV. There’s also plenty of legroom roomy for your long-legged friends. The dashboard has a clean and simple layout, as well as parts of the cabin, though the RS trims are a bit more upscale with its black and faux detailing. The gauges are large and well within reach.

The amount of storage areas across the cabin is nothing short of plentiful, such as with the glovebox, two cubbies by the center console, a bin underneath the armrest. Cargo space in the backseat is a roomy 25.3 cubic-feet and stretches to an impressive 54.3 cubic feet when the 60/40 split rear seatbacks are folded flat. Similarly, the front passenger can fold to house 8.5 feet worth of extra items.

The 2021 Trailblazer is powered by a standard with a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine in the L, LS, and LT trim, it’s also allied with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). This turbocharged engine possesses a bit of spunk even though it only has 137 horsepower (137 lb-ft torque).

On the RS and ACTIV trims (optional on the LT) is the 1.3-liter turbo engine. It pushes out 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. Of course, this engine shows itself to be much livelier. The 9-speed automatic transmission on the AWD models also puts even more pep in this Chevy truck’s step.

The Trailblazer handles tough road patches like a pro, especially when on curved highway ramps. The ride is delightfully smooth no matter what type of terrain one might encounter. Of course, the ACTIV trim will fair much better with its higher ground clearance, accompanied underbody protection, and special tires and suspension made for improving performance and overall ride quality.

Interestingly enough, as opposed to most SUVs, the Trailblazer’s available all-wheel-drive system necessitates the driver to operate it through a center-console button. The company claims that this method aids the car in maintaining better fuel economy, however, some car bloggers have noted that an automatic system can respond much more effectively to quickly varying road conditions.

Furthermore, the new Trailblazer offers a great deal of technological amenities such as SiriusXM 360L streaming capability, a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, the connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Bluetooth. Optional features include a Bose audio system and a wireless charging pad. On the more external side, optional features include a panoramic sunroof and LED headlights.

Chevy hasn’t forgotten about your safety tech, as it comes with standard driver-assist features like forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, auto high beams, and lane departure warning with lane-keep assist. Optional features are adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert systems are optional.

No matter what version of the 2021 Trailblazer that you decide on will certainly provide excellent performance and overall experience. For those who are looking are a bit budget-conscious, the base L would be ideal ($19,995). For those who are looking for a more off-road experience will enjoy the ACTIV ($26,395).

Miami Lakes Chevrolet is currently selling the latest Trailblazer in nearly all different versions for just around $25,000, (plus destination fee). Chevrolet Gets J.D. Power’s Stamp Of Approval For 2020

General Motors Top-Ranking Brand

Racecar driver Louis Chevrolet surely couldn’t have imagined how much of a powerhouse that his famous automobile company would turn out to be, especially with its most recent honor. The century-old brand was recently ranked amid the top companies for customer loyalty by J.D. Power’s 2020 U.S. Automotive Brand Study.

The data from the renowned J.D. Power states that roughly 49.1 percent of all Chevrolet owners end up purchasing another vehicle by the brand once a new vehicle has been released into the market. The ability to preserve their customer base puts Chevrolet in seventh place amid all non-premium brands in the automobile industry and third within American brands, also peeping just before Ford with 54.3 percent and Ram with 57.3 percent.

Other companies from Chevy’s parent company General Motors were also ranked on J.D’s list,  such as GMC ranking 13 from its 39 percentage and Buick tailing behind at 14 with a 27.5 percentage. Additionally, Cadillac was ranked separately as a luxury brand and placed tenth in its segment with 33.8 percent. Overall, Chevrolet was the top-ranking brand of Chevrolet Motors in the J.D. study.

In the second year of the J.D. Power Brand Loyalty study, it places automotive brands subject to the percentage of owners that swap out their vehicle with another car from that same brand. The data for the study was collected between June 2019 and May 2020, it also includes data for all model-year vehicles that were exchanged. This denotes that owners who purchased a significantly older Chevy vehicle, for instance, and replaced it by buying a new Chevy car from a dealership were counted towards the customer retention total.

Tyson Jominy, J.D. Power’s vice president of data and analytics, said that automakers will be eager to keep their existing base, particularly in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Many automobile manufacturers have been forced to slow down their production and refigure how to go about promoting new vehicles since buyers more than likely will have to be a bit stingy with their money for a while.

“Automakers are really focused on customer retention, as evidenced by the payment plans and incentives they’ve offered since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out,” said Jominy. “Many have gone above and beyond to offer customers financial assistance during a period of economic uncertainty, which does a lot to bolster consumer confidence in their chosen brand and repurchase it in the future,”

Chevrolet and General Motors have already offered a considerable amount of incentives for its customers, American frontline health workers, and even those affected by the disease. Around the month of May, General Motors transformed its Warren, MI, establishment to create needful surgical-grade face masks for healthcare workers.

For Chevrolet’s customers, the company offered the “Shop. Click. Drive.” program as a means to purchase a new vehicle online and have it delivered to their residence. Additionally, special payment plans and other financing services were offered, especially to those who either fell ill to the virus or were experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic.

The Seemingly Meek Chevrolet Sonic Shows Up Every Vehicle In The J.D Power Initial Quality Study

The popular American-based data analytics company and car reviewer, J.D. Power revealed the results of its yearly Initial Quality Study last week (July, 24), which places vehicles on a standing drew upon the number of reported issues that were experienced in the first 90 days on ownership.

According to the prestigious study, General Motors faired well and had most of its brands perform above average. Furthermore, a vehicle from the company had a more preferable performance in the study than any other vehicle that is presently on sale, however, it wasn’t one of General Motors more well-known models like the Chevy Silverado or Tahoe, but in fact the more humble subcompact car, the Chevrolet Sonic.

Buyers of the Chevrolet Sonic only reported 103 issues per 100 vehicles in the 2020 Initial Quality Study, this makes it not just the best inexpensive compact car for initial quality, but the most advantageous vehicle overall. More often than not, newly released vehicles are rated a bit harshly for its initial quality, especially since they are more inclined to experience minor defects as a result of their new features and design. However, the most recent Chevy Sonic has been in production since 2011 and released as a 2012 model, with almost a decade under its belt, it’s quite plausible that General Motors did away of most of the defects over that period of time.

Moreover, vehicles like the non-deluxe Chevrolet Sonic have the upper hand over premium models such as the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, particularly, since these types of models usually have standard technology that is constantly changing for the sake of modernization and they are very susceptible to defects and other technological problems. The only deluxe brands that had a better performance in the study were Genesis, Lexus and Cadillac.

It’s also important to note that the Chevrolet Sonic performed better than the expectations of its own brand, in which it underwent an average of 141 problems per 100 vehicles. This incredible performance placed the small compact third in the study, along with other brands behind it, specifically Dodge and Kia, which deadlocked with 136 problems per 100 vehicles. The top brands encompassed the Ram, Genesis, Mitsubishi, Buick, GMC, Volkswagen and Hyundai.

“This success is the result of a focused effort across the entire GM enterprise from design to product development, manufacturing, Customer Care and Aftersales, sales, service and marketing, our dealers and others,” said GM’s vice president of global quality, Tony Francavilla. “We celebrate these wins and will remain focused on delivering quality vehicles for our customers.”

Chevrolet’s Ultimate Playlist

The Chevrolet brand has been an ultimate powerhouse automotive brand for over 100 years and undoubtedly has had quite an impact on the industry. Ways that one might not expect that the truck-focused company has had an impact is in pop culture, specifically in the music industry. Singers like Elton John, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift and more have all gained some level of influence in their songwriting from Chevrolet in one way or another.

Miami Lakes Automall is joining in on the fun to jubilate World Music Day…only a day later. Our writers have compiled a list for you to enjoy on your summer vacation of the most iconic Chevy inspired songs. Rock out to Chevrolet’s Ultimate Playlist!

American Pie by Don McLean

“So bye-bye, Miss American Pie, drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry.”

This 1971 rock and roll classic sung by Don McLean became a massive success and stayed on the charts in North America for four weeks and also dominated the list in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It was also notable for the frequently mentioned phrase “The Day The Music Died”, in reference to the plane crash of 1959 that killed legendary performers Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens.

Crocodile Rock by Elton John

This 1972 song simply embodies the rock ‘n’ roll, dating and youthful independence of that era. It was a pre-single for upcoming album Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player. The musical genius gives Chevy a shoutout with his lyric “an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.”

Little Red Corvette by Prince

Funk-rock God, Prince released his mega-hit single, Little Red Corvette in 1983 and became the most popular song of that time, as well as his first song to reach the top 10 in the North American charts. In 2016, Chevy issued a print ad with its famous sports car and with a caption of Prince’s lyrics “Baby that was much too fast”

The One I Loved Back Then by George Jones

Country legend George Jones also showed love to “America’s Sports Car” and sang this 1985 and also dubbed it “The Corvette Song”. In the song, Jones compares the similarities between fast Corvettes and beautiful women.

99 In the Shade by Bon Jovi

In 1999 In the Shade was produced by double-platinum selling rock band, Bon Jovi in 1988, with a feel-good summertime vibe and energetic tempo. The song includes the lyrics “I got the radio blasting in my old man’s Chevrolet.”

Mud On The Tires by Brad Paisley

Country music singer Brad Paisley wrote this song in 2004, in which he sings about at long last getting a loan in order to buy a spanky new Chevrolet, “I’ve got some big news, I’m holdin’ the keys to a brand-new Chevrolet…”

Camaro by Kings of Leon

American band, Kings of Leon rocked the house in 2007 with its Camaro song, with the lyric “She looks so cool in her new Camaro.” The Chevrolet Camero is another popular sports car by the company and highly sought after during its 36-year reign.

Tim McGraw by Taylor Swift

The once country-music sensation turned mega pop star Taylor Swift wrote her first single naming it after country music legend Tim McGraw in 2006. She also gave a shout out to one of Chevy’s pick up trucks with the verse “Just a boy in a Chevy truck, That had a tendency of gettin’ stuck”

Red Camaro by Rascal Flatts

“I saw a red Camaro today

And I did a double take

I thought I saw her face”

Country music group pays homage to the lovable Camero in 2010 as apart of the band’s seventh studio album dubbed “Nothing Like This”. Although it wasn’t the most popular song on the record, the album ended up going platinum, and we’d like to think it had a little help from the Chevy brand.

Miami Lakes Chevrolet

Looking for a cool pickup to listen to your favorite Chevy tunes? Look no further than the strong and hefty 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, this all-time classic is very capable of lifting large loads as it can tow up to 13,400 lbs. The Chevrolet Trailblazer Is Making A Comeback in 2021 With A 28 MPG Combined EPA Rating

The Trailblazer’s Impressive MPG Rating

Shoppers who are interested in purchasing a small SUV want the space without sacrificing the fuel economy. The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer was revealed almost a year ago as a compact car offered in its lineup, squeezing between the entry-level Trax and the highly favored Equinox. At long last, an official EPA rating for the Trailbrazer’s fuel mileage has finally been released…kind of…

The newest Trailblazer certainly lives up to its name as it is offered with 1.2-liter as well as a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with either front or all four wheels. According to Fuel Economy, there an option for the 1.3-liter AWD model to have a little collaboration with a nine-speed automatic transmission, the highest-spec powertrain option.

Additionally, the 2021 Chevy model earns a 26 mpg rating in city conditions with 30 mpg as the official rating for the highway. In general, this rating a little better than the miniature Trax with its high-spec 1.4-liter turbo three-cylinder and AWD, however, this comparison is very like-for-like. On the other hand, the Trailblazer defeats the larger Equinox despite its arrangement. Those who decide upon the 1.5-liter turbo engine with AWD in the Equinox should know that it would be pretty similar at 27 mpg combined.

It might not seem like it, but the new Trailblazer is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to rising up against the AWD competition. It’s 28 combined mpg rating is perfectly equal to the Honda HR-V, though ranks lower only slightly for the highway and accelerates past the Mazda CX-30 at a rating of 27 mpg combined. The domestic competition also has trouble keeping up with the Trailblazer as the Jeep Renegade matches up at 26 mpg and Ford’s EcoSport model comes in a little behind at 25 combined mpg, even though its closer to the Chevy Trax in size.

The Trailblazer is David in the market of Goliath with its smaller 1.2-liter engine and 4WD still dominating in terms of having better fuel economy, but as a note, the exact figures are not available right now. However, assessing from the estimates from FWD competitors, it is expected that Trailblazer will come in close to 30 mpg combined.

Features To Expect and Release Date

The 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer will come out swinging with its spacious interior, the company states that the total cargo capacity is 54 cubic feet with 60/40 split second-row seats folded.

The new Chevy model wouldn’t be so new if it didn’t have updated driver-assist features like forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and automated emergency braking, all of which are standard. Optional features include adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring as well as infotainment features like Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto.

The Trailblazer is set to be released in the Spring this year (2020), and will have a base price close to $20,000, (plus destination fee).

Miami Lakes Chevrolet

If you simply can’t wait for the new Chevy model, Miami Lakes Auto Mall has a variety of different vehicles from Chevrolet that are up-to-date, family-friendly, and has plenty of advanced infotainment and safety features, we even have the Trax in our possession. Those who are interested can look through our online new car inventory and chat with an online representative for further assistance.
