GM Attempts To Regroup With Its New Bolt EV and EUV Ad Campaign

Bolt EV and Bolt EUV

The parent company of Chevrolet, General Motors (GM), launched its new ad campaign, Friday (April, 8), with the hopes of rebuilding trust in its customers. This process of gaining back trust is necessary when regarding the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, as numerous production halts and pricey battery recalls pestered the company for more than a year.

Last year, multiple reports of battery fires forced the multinational automaker to issue a hefty recall for all Bolt EVs that were made at the start of production in 2017. It was an estimated $2 billion in the cost of swapping out batteries created by its partner LG Energy Solution.

Twenty-four incidents were made aware to federal regulators, while GM said that they were aware of 19 related car problems.

Last week marked the start of a new rollout of ads via a national television campaign…that doesn’t mention the recall.

According to Newsweek, Shad Balch, director of Chevrolet communications, said that the campaign is intended to show the ease and convenience of having an electric vehicle.

One spot conveys the Bolt’s range to the viewers’ by showing a driver listening to his mother’s chatter-box during a long drive. Meanwhile, another ad titled “Life Changes,” shows a mom-to-be learning about the charging process.

In regards to what potential buyers should consider when thinking about purchasing Bolt despite its previous battery issues, Balch said that the EV represents a focus on gaining consumer trust and a positive entry point for drivers considering swapping their gasoline-powered cars for fully-electric ones.

“We have kept our customers first in every step of this process and will continue to reaffirm that commitment,” he said. “For consumers we will focus on the attributes that make Bolt EV/EUV the perfect choice to switch from gas to electric: long-range EV loaded with technology at an affordable price.”

He also said that the company is certain that it will set a sales record for the Bolt and transcend that projected record in 2023.

Last year, the company sold 24,828 Bolt EVs and EUVs.

It was in November 2020 when the first recall notice went out, with GM saying that 50,932 vehicles that were produced from 2017 to 2019 had a fire risk, warning its customers not to charge their cars with high-voltage lithium-ion batteries to full capacity.

It was after a series of reported fires that involved the battery, the company lengthened its recall in August 2021 to involve every Bolt made since 2017.

Although customers waited for the defective batteries to be replaced, the company instructed drivers to lessen their battery capacity to 90 percent, keeping the battery charged to 70 miles or range, at the minimum, along with parking their vehicles outside and not charging them overnight.

In December, the American car manufacturer released a software update that automatically sets the Bolt’s top charge limit to 80 percent, enabling drivers to leave the car charging overnight and to park indoors.

Throughout this process, production was also halted due to supply chain issues intruding with the manufacturing of replacement batteries. This caused GM to issue production halts for the Bolt line, which was extended until production restarted this month, in April.

Chevrolet Bolt Finishes 2020 As Second Best-Selling EV

What separates the Bolt from the rest of the vehicles in its segment? The results of the 2020 sales year included 20,754 vehicles sold, which was over 4,300 more than the previous year. This past year provided a significant jump in sales. The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt is going to see an increase in sales yet again if the previous years indicate the future. There is less mystery involving the abilities of EVs as more buyers opt for better mileage and improved EV designs rather than traditional gasoline engines. The Tesla Model 3 finished on top, but before long we might see Chevrolet pull ahead as its engineering and technology grows.

Chevrolet Is Aiming For Number One

Chevy did sell more Bolt EVs than Tesla sold of its Model S vehicle. Even against non-EVs, Chevrolet is proud of the accomplishments done by the Bolt. The Bolt EV sold more than twice that of the Nissan Leaf sold and almost three times the amount sold over rival Audi and its e-tron and e-tron Sportback EVs. The good news for readers looking for the Chevrolet Bolt, the next model year will see a mid-cycle refresh.

Upcoming Chevy Bolt

The refresh for the 2021 model year was pushed back to the 2022 model year. The COVID-19 outbreak is the reason to blame for the skipped model year. The rise of EVs is expected to reach as much as around 40 percent of General Motors sales within just four years. As soon as 2025 is here, the world will look very different. Word on the street, according to GM Authority, is General Motors will also carry many more models that will promote EV capabilities. For our readers, let us know what you think on social media

Chevrolet Refreshed the Top EV On the Market, the 2020 Chevy Bolt

General Motors has plans to refresh and update the Chevrolet Bolt EV. The vehicle has been apart of the Chevy lineup for four years. A new wave of electric vehicles is set to come out from GM early in the new decade and the Chevrolet Bolt will be revamped to look sharp and offer the modern amenities that have been recently developed. In the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt, the Bolt actually costs less and offers better fuel efficiency with a driving range of 259 miles, up from 238 miles last year. The Bolt also charges faster than ever before, up 150% faster during the first 30 minutes of charging in colder temperatures than the previous model.

No Vehicle Has Better Fuel Efficiency

The fuel range for the Bolt is greater than the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Tesla Model 3, the Kia Niro, the Nissan Leaf Plus, and BMW I3. The top of the electric vehicle class is the 2020 Chevy Bolt EV. The engineering team at Chevy worked tirelessly to improve the energy of the cell electrodes in the battery. By improving the cell chemistry, the number of cells is the same, but each one is more energy-dense with an improvement of 6 kWh of energy. The Bolt battery pack is up from 60 kWh to 66 kWh. This increase is detrimental to allowing the 2020 Chevrolet Bolt to become the top EV, which was Chevrolet’s goal to reclaim the top spot. The future of the Chevrolet Bolt looks bright with the Bolt EUV expected to be ready by the 2022 model year. The EUV has a larger wheelbase at 3.0 inches longer than the Bolt. This will provide more room in the backseats and will look more upright and like an SUV with a sunroof.

More Than Just the Best Fuel Range of Any EV

Upgrades have also come by way of technology upgrades. The Bolt EV has HD Rear Vision and HD Surround Vision Cameras that help to give a full-display rearview mirror/camera. The new pedestrian alert system helps drivers with a noise that goes off in the newly placed speakers in both the front and rear of the vehicle. With high-tech upgrades, lower pricing, the expectation is to see greater numbers from customers. Also, it’s important to keep in mind that the Bolt is also quick with a 0 to 60 mph time of 6.5 seconds. While speaking about the improvements, the plan has been clear about what Chevrolet wanted to do with the Bolt EV.

“The Chevrolet Bolt EV has been changing consumer perceptions of electric vehicles since its launch in 2016. The great range now, even more, is the foundation of the Bolt EV’s success, and when paired with features like one-pedal driving, Regen on Demand and the instant torque of the EV motor, the vehicle delivers an exceptional driving experience. Chevrolet also is helping to encourage EV adoption by providing customers the necessary tools and services to make EV ownership more convenient,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet Passenger Car and Crossover Marketing.
