New Patent Images Suggest That An Electric Chevrolet Is Coming Our Way

Tuesday, August 10th, 2021

Recently, the Chevrolet company published a design patent that demonstrates what could possibly be the next-generation of their Chevrolet Equinox electric SUV. The revamped platform will alter its design and technologies, and we can guess that this new crossover will have to carry a different moniker, but for the time being, it’s certain that this mid-size vehicle will be the electric equivalent of the current model.

Taking into account General Motors’ (GM) position on electrics versus hybrids, we can deduce that these recent publications of the Equinox crossover are a direct reflection of a vehicle that totally does away with relying on gasoline. To further explain, the car company already said that it wants to hone in on efforts towards vehicles that are fully electric, and that its studies reveal customers don’t particularly love hybrids.

Moreover, the illustrations show that the vehicle has a closed front end, which almost mirrors that of the Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV, along with the Cadillac Lyriq. On top of this, the drawings don’t depict that it will make room for an exhaust system, which is obviously needed for a hybrid vehicle.

On the other hand, other elements that support our theory that this electric Equinox to-be. For example, last November, CEO Mary Barra, said that GM would upgrade its financial undertaking to electrics and self-driving vehicles of $7 billion with the aim of releasing 30 new electrics worldwide by 2025. Even before this statement, the automaker said the GMC Hummer EV pickup truck, and eventually went on to develop the Hummer EV product line together with the Hummer EV SUV.

GM also disclosed the refashioned 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and its brand-new and larger relative, the Bolt EUV, coupled with the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq luxury crossover. That being the case, Barra went further in explaining that the ongoing microchip shortage won’t affect the company’s rollout for their electric vehicles, however, it has slowed down production of the upgraded 2022 Chevy Equinox SUV until the middle of August.

It’s almost a given that this type of vehicle will make use of the company’s Ultium Drive And Motor Technology, which are made for a wide range of implementations, such as front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, and can even be utilized by vehicles of high-performance and off-road capabilities. This highlights Barra’s view that GM has the ability to “put everyone in an EV.”

Although the patent was indeed filed by SAIC-GM (Shanghai General Motors Company) for the market for China, most of the Ultium Drive workings like the castings, gears and assemblies will be constructed with parts that are globally sourced at GM’s current global propulsion facilities on collective, adjustable assembly lines, which means that this model may eventually wander on to the States; Which is safe to say would be aligned with GM’s motivations for global coverage.

While we’re waiting for the new and improved Chevrolet Equinox, as well as other electrified vehicles in the works, Miami Lakes Automall has a plethora of vehicles like the gasoline version of their crossover SUV, as well as a variety of other different models that range in various shapes and prices. 2022 Chevy Equinox Revamps Its Wardrobe With Four New Paint Colors

Wednesday, April 7th, 2021

New Cosmetic Features For The 2022 Chevy Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is getting all gussied up for 2022, and it’s adding four new color options to its makeup palette.

These new selections are set to be introduced with the upcoming Equinox SUV will encompass the following:

  • Blue Glow Metallic
  • Seaglass Blue Metallic
  • Cherry Red Tintcoat
  • Iron Gray Metallic

The refreshed Chevy Equinox will soon unveil its mid-cycle revamp of the crossover, which was previously scheduled for the 2021 model year. Unfortunately, obstacles were met not-so-thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, the altered Chevy vehicle then received push back to the 2022 model year.

Along with the new cosmetic options, the 2022 crossover will also bring forth a handful of exterior styling alterations, involving a renovated front grille and lower fascia. The grille and fascia will team up with new, augmented headlamps. These headlamps have long, thin housings that draw in the fenders, succeeding the central design line in the grille.

Additionally, the front will have new fog lamps, while the back end will involve a modified rear bumper and taillights. The body style will also continue to serve as a compact four-door crossover utility vehicle.

In particular, the upcoming Equinox SUV will carry on with offering the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, assumed to be the upscale powerplant option. Initially, General Motors aimed at introducing the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine to the lineup in order to replace the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LTG, the last-mentioned having been terminated during the 2021 model year. At the moment, however, those plans have taken a different turn, as the LYX will continue to serve as the sole engine option.

To get an idea, the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX has an output of 170 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 203 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. Underneath, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox will succeed in riding on the GM D2 platform. Manufacturing in North American markets will come to pass mainly at the GM plant located in Canada, and on a smaller scale at the GM San Luis Potosi plant and GM San Luis Potosi plant and GM Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico.

More Features To Expect

The upcoming 2022 Chevrolet Equinox will bring much more than just a few paint colors. It’s also tacking on wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as a standard feature among all trims levels.

Moreover, the refreshed SUV will offer the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system operated by a 7-inch touchscreen as standard on LS, LT, and RS trim levels. At the same time, the Premier trim level will encompass an 8-inch touchscreen. The LT and RS models will both offer an optional 8-inch screen to serve as an upgrade.

2021 Chevy Equinox: All The Latest

Thursday, March 18th, 2021

General Motors (GM) initially planned on revamping their Chevy Equinox model for this year (2021). Unfortunately, the automaker faced obstacles related to the coronavirus pandemic, thus, these revisions were postponed until 2022.

Nevertheless, the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox will at least get some small but significant changes from the previous year, which encompasses the elimination of two equipment groups and one engine option.

Model Lineup

For LT models, the 2LT equipment group and for Premier models, the 3LZ equipment group have been scrapped. Their elimination is related to the ceasing of the turbocharged 2.0L LTG engine (we’ll discuss later).

Exterior

Externally, the 2021 Chevy Equinox will also get rid of two exterior color options, which are Chocolate Metallic and Cayenne Orange Metallic.

Interior

Inhouse, the Equinox SUV embraces the Leather Package into its color palette. Namely:

  • Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seating
  • Memory settings
  • Inside rearview auto-dimming mirror
  • Outside heated power-adjustable and auto-dimming mirrors

Mechanical

As previously mentioned, the 2LT and 3LZ equipment groups will be eliminated. In addition, the following mechanical components will also retire. Specifically:

  • Turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LTG engine
  • 9-speed automatic transmission
  • Trailering equipment
  • Factory-installed trailer hitch
  • Trailer hitch closeout cover
  • 4,850 lbs. GVWR
  • 3.17 axle ratio
  • 17-inch front and 16-inch rear 4-wheel antilock disc brakes
  • Dual-outlet stainless-steel exhaust
  • 17-inch steel spare wheel
  • 17-inch compact spare tire

Powertrain

As a result of the removal of the LTG engine, the 2021 Equinox SUV will now be offered solely with one engine choice, which is the turbocharged 1.5L LYX inline four-cylinder. This motor has an output of 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Remarkably, the engine is partnered with a 6-speed automatic transmission for each trim, and the car will continue to offer either a front-wheel or all-wheel-drive configuration.

Packages

The automaker’s Midnight Edition now involves the following features:

  • Jet Black premium cloth (substitutes Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seating)
  • Exclusive mold-in-color black grille and mesh with black surround
  • Dark finish fog lamp bezel surround
  • Front and rear Black bow ties
  • 19-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Factories

The construction of the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox is done at the following factories:

  • GM Ramos plant located in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico managed by GM Mexico
  • GM CAMI plant located in Ontario, Canada managed by GM Canada
  • GM-SAIC Wuhan II located in Hubei, China managed by Shanghai-GM
  • Deliveries of the latest Equinox started in Q3 2020, which is to say that the units were already on dealership lots.

Furthermore, Chevy’s SUV will get its comprehensive revamp for the 2022 model year. Following this, it is expected that the Equinox will stay in production until 2023-2024, which will mark the beginning of a new generation where the compact will be replaced with an all-new model.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox vs. 2021 Ford Escape

Thursday, December 10th, 2020

The 2021 Chevrolet Equinox and 2021 Ford Escape are neck and neck in regards to their passenger space, impressive safety features and ratings, as well as their warranty coverage. However, even with identical twins, one of them has just a little bit more spice than the other. Let’s find out just how fraternal these SUVs are.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is a package deal when it comes to providing comfort for all five of its passengers, impressive handling, and two fine engine choices, which is likely why it’s the brand’s best selling SUV. The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine has an EPA rating at a suitable 28 mpg combined and 27 mpg with all-wheel-drive. This car drives on 170 horsepower with 203 lb-ft of torque.

The All-American brand’s latest SUV has a great catalog of standard active-safety features like forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and even IntelliBeam automatic headlights.  It also has available blind-spot monitoring.

For entertainment, the Equinox has a  standard 7-inch touchscreen and an available 8-inch version. Both have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The truck also has keyless entry, push-button start, four USB ports, 17-inch wheels, and the Teen Driver System that allows parents of tweens with a heavy foot to set parameters and relay information on driving habits.

Highlighting optional features include ventilated front seats, navigation, Bose audio, a panoramic sunroof, and a rear-seat entertainment system.

2021 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape was restyled last year and grew in size while also dropping a few pounds. The base engine upgraded to a turbocharger with a 3-cylinder 1.5-liter engine, which produces a decent 181 horsepower with 203 1b-ft of torque. The next engine option is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine, which really ramps up the ride with 250 horsepower. The eco-friendly hybrid engine only loses 50 horses, while the plug-in version does not differ much in its performance numbers.

The SUV has an intriguing amount of standard driver-assistance features. These driver-assists are a part of the brand’s Co-Pilot 360 bundle and include automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian detection), a blind-spot detection system, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlights. Some exciting leisures include an 8-inch Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are present on all trims with the exception of the base S. Other standard features include 17-inch steel wheels, cloth seats, front bucket seats, a 6-speaker stereo, and Sync infotainment with Bluetooth, voice recognition, and in-vehicle Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices. There are also some exciting packages worth looking into, like the Technology Package for those who prioritize the best interior experience, or Class II Trailer Tow Package for off-road enthusiasts.

The Escape also has a design that is more carlike than SUV like with its rounded shape, and whether or not that is appealing comes down to a person’s purchase.

Final Suggestion

The 2021 Ford Escape has the advantage of providing hybrid engines, a great list of safety features, and even luggage space. However, the 2021 Equinox provides an overall better experience in its cabin with its stylish features and entertainment systems. On top of this, Equinox’s bigger and more aggressive design is easier to welcome than its competitor and also has a lower starting price. It is for this reason that the Equinox SUV is a more favorable choice for most car buyers.

The 2021 Chevrolet Equinox provides a lot of bang for your buck with its standard safety system, 3,500 towing capacity, standard entertainment features, and overall roominess.
