Volt Will Go Farther in 2015 | Chevrolet Dealers

July 28th, 2014 by

The Chevrolet Volt has been one of the most popular models for Chevrolet dealers across the United States. While many are enthusiastically embracing electric cars, there are some who are still cautious.

Those who are hesitant about making the switch to electric vehicles most often cite concerns about the length to which the cars can travel without having to be recharged.

Now the Chevy Volt will be offering additional range to address concerns for the skeptical.

The 2015 Chevrolet Volt will have a battery capacity of 17.1 kilowatt hours, which is an improvement over the previous 16.5 kilowatt hours battery. The new battery will get a range of about 40 miles before it has to be recharged. However, the official distance is still waiting for verification from the Environmental Protection Agency.

Getting More From Your Tank

While that may seem low, it is important to remember that it’s an electric-only distance. When you are driving longer distances, the car switches between electricity and gas. Relying on the electric battery helps you to save gas. Chevrolet says that charging the battery regularly can make one tank of gas last as much as 900 miles.

When the Chevy Volt was introduced in 2011, it had a battery capacity of 16 kilowatt hours. This is the third time that Chevrolet has increased the battery capacity and, therefore, the range of the car. The battery capacity was improved to 16.5 kilowatt hours in 2013, and the price of the car was lowered that same year. The company continues a trend of increasing the performance of the car while also making it more affordable for more drivers.

More Improvements Already in Motion

Chevrolet is already planning more changes for the 2016 model. The battery capacity is expected to be the same, but the price may drop to about $30,000, and changes are expected to both the interior and the exterior design.

The improved 2015 Chevrolet Volt is already available at Chevrolet dealers around the country. Consider taking a test drive to get a feel for the excellent performance yourself.

You will love the stylish design and will enjoy the way the car handles. You will also love knowing how much you are saving on gas and how much you are doing to preserve natural resources and to reduce emissions. The Volt is not only affordable to buy, but it also helps you continue to keep your expenses low.
