The Diesel Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Show That They’re Still Hot Stuff With Recent Sales

Chevy Tahoe and Suburban Excel In Diesel Sales

As with gasoline power plants, diesel motors are now being seen as being on the verge of extinction due to the ever-growing rise of electric-powered vehicles. Major automakers have been seeking to revamp their entire lineup to eventually become fully electric in the next few years, with Hyundai for example, saying that it will stop producing diesel engines altogether.

From the environmental standpoint, this seems like a rather positive transition in the automotive industry, but one should take into account the importance of diesels, specifically in large trucks and SUVs. These types of motors typically have a high torque output and also have sensible fuel economy numbers, which still makes them great options. In 2020, General Motors (GM) presented its newborn 3.0-liter Duramax six-cylinder turbodiesel in its Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Chevrolet Suburban SUVs. As proven by their recent sales figures, this move was indeed the right one.

Both the diesel-operated Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban have recently experienced an increase in sales. Towards the end of April, the Duramax power plant collected six percent of all Tahoe sales, as well as eight percent for the Suburban. Seeing that the SUVs entered production, this is counted as the highest take rate for the Duramax engine. In other words, the interest in this vehicle is translating into actual sales, resulting in one of their best model years.

The 3.0-liter unit has a solid output of 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, combined with a reasonable amount of consumption. In the full-sized Tahoe, figures from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) for the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) diesel put out 21/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined.

By contrast, the RWD 5.3-liter V8 Tahoe will only muster EPA figures 16/20/18 mpg throughout the same cycles. There are efficiency gains that are similar for the Suburban, and having said that, the Duramax engine is a tad more expensive. On the Tahoe’s LS trim, it would cost you an extra $996 for the diesel motor. That might seem fairly reasonable if you take into account what you’ll save at gas stations (considering if you don’t really need a V8). Then, for the first time in two decades, the Escalade offers a 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine, which is just as enticing to potential buyers since they don’t have to pay more for it.

The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban Model Are All The Rage Among Chevrolet Buyers

The New Kids On The Block

The latest and greatest 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, as well as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUVs are selling like hotcakes on the dealership lots, especially with one particular trim level that seems to be getting all the buzz.

Last month, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban RST trim level only stayed on dealership lots for an average of 18 days, which is considered pretty darn well in the U.S market, since the typical time period for a car’s stay would be around 60 days. Obviously, this demand is considered to be outrageously good…and now on a first-come-first-serve sort of basis. Regarding the RST model, this demand is even greater.

Chevrolet’s RST trim is comparable to that of their LT that it’s built upon, however, its design has a bit more edge and sports the Rally Street Truck (RST) title. The automaker responded to the popularity and overall demand from its customers for a more street-racer style by tacking on 22-inch High Gloss Black painted wheels as a standard, as well as a distinctive front fascia involving a black icy finish on the grille, black on black-chrome trim (for the exterior) and a range of RST-exclusive features in-house, with divergent stitching.

Both the Tahoe and Suburban were fully overhauled for this model year, and are currently in the initial stages of their 5th and twelve generation actions, in that order. The Suburban SUV sets the record for being the longest continually used nameplate, as it was first initiated in the market by 1935. The two trucks are essentially twins, with the exception that the Suburban is 15 inches longer than the Tahoe at 225.7 inches.

For both models, buyers have the choice of getting the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine from the EcoTec3 group, which has an incredible output of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The second option is the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax, which produces a lesser 277 horsepower but an improved 460 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines team up with the brand’s Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission. One also has the option of rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD).

Both SUVs have accomplished strong sales and growth in North America, particularly in the fourth quarter of 2020 by over 30 percent. The transition to the new generation earlier that year, in addition to a market slump of many businesses due to the coronavirus pandemic, resulted in sales dropping considerably for a year, such as with the Tahoe at 88,238 and Suburban at 37,636, which will certainly see a resurgence in 2021.

The Chevrolet RST has a starting price of $58,395, (plus destination fee) for RWDs equipped with the 5.3L V8 engine. The mirroring Suburban RST has a starting price of 61,095, (plus destination fee).

The 2021 Chevrolet SUV Lineup: Everything To Expect For The New Year

Chevrolet is offering a package deal when it comes to its compact crossover, full-size SUVs, and utility vehicles for its 2021 model year. New features to expect are pretty minor but also significant, like with special editions and fresh colors, including updates to the engine and trim levels. At the same time, the Tahoe and Suburban will get a complete makeover. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2021 Chevrolet SUV lineup!

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer

Now more than ever, subcompact crossovers are becoming all the rage for SUV lovers, and Chevrolet doesn’t disappoint the growing demand for one. The new 2021 Trailblazer is the brand’s entry-level SUV and has a front face that resembles a bit like its sporty cousin, the Camaro. The price seems pretty reasonable at just under $20,000, (plus the destination fee). Two engine choices that are offered include a 1.2-liter engine with 137 horsepower or a 1.3-liter engine with 155 horsepower.

2021 Chevrolet Trax

Chevrolet has another subcompact crossover that’s even smaller than the Trailblazer, which is the 2021 Trax. This model may a bit short but not in its features. The car comes with two new special editions available on the LT trim. The Sport Edition is decked out in black exterior accents, whilst the Midnight Edition fuses black accents with a Mosaic Black Metallic paint color. This car will be a breeze to park and will allow its passengers to take advantage of its storage space by its generous amount of cubbies.

2021 Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is a compact sports utility model with a refreshed design for 2021. However, the company revealed that the SUV will really be a 2022 model since the plans for their changes have been pushed back. What you need to know is that the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine has been removed, and for now it’s being replaced by the 1.5-liter 4-cylinder. One shouldn’t fret too much about this, as the 1.5-liter is expected to make a comeback when the new Equinox comes out.

This almost-2021 vehicle will now have an available leather package on the LT trim, which includes black perforated leather-appointed seats, memory settings, an inside rearview auto-dimming mirror, and outside heated power-adjustable mirrors with auto-dimming.

2021 Chevrolet Blazer

The color palette on the 2021 Blazer is getting a bit of a switch-up, as colors like Pewter Metallic, Iron Gray Metallic, Cayenne Orange Metallic, and Cherry Red Tintcoat are tagging along.

The brand’s Safety Assist package gift wraps automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, following distance indicator, and auto high-beams. These goodies come standard on the 2LT, 3LT, RS, and Premier trims.

2021 Chevrolet Traverse

The full-size Chevrolet Traverse is also getting a facelift for 2022 and only minute changes for 2021. Chevrolet’s Safety Assist will outplace the Driver Conference II package and will be standard on the RS, Premier, and High Country. It will also be available on LT.

2021 Chevrolet Tahoe

The restyled Tahoe not only joins a new platform but is also winning with an independent rear suspension and a better ride quality. This SUV is 6.7 inches longer than before and also has increased in its wheelbase.  Third-row passengers now have 40 percent more legroom and 66 percent more cargo volume. Front-seat passengers will also enjoy the 10.2-inch touchscreen.

2021 Chevrolet Suburban

The big and bad Suburban will share the same features as the Tahoe, as well as technologies, but one thing that makes it stand out is that the improvement in the interior space. The Suburban provides more legroom and cargo volume than its predecessor, specifically in the second-and third-row.

2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

At long last, Chevrolet is bringing on an electric crossover to their lineup. The production of the Bolt EUV will start in 2021, and based on the photos we’ve seen so far, it’s even more impressive than the current Bolt hatchback, with its increase in size and posher design. This car will also have a dashboard design that is more user-friend, as well as a new touchscreen and enhanced interior materials. The brand’s Super Cruise will also prove to be an asset to drivers once they get on the highway.

We sell a wide range of crossovers, subcompacts, and full-sized trucks from the brand and at various prices. 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe Shows Off Its Diesel Power

Chevrolet Tahoe’s New Diesel Options

In North America, diesel engines usually aren’t considered the most appealing engine option and this was especially true in the 1970s. During this time, General Motors made the transition from a gas V-8 engine to a diesel for its (now deceased) Oldsmobile brand. These engines resulted in miserable reliability issues, mainly involving head bolts that had too much pressure from the diesel compression.

Many years later (in 2001) the American automaker made the introduction of its powerful and tough Duramax diesel V-8 for its heavy-duty truck, which certainly made up for Olddie’s failure. Even more fascinating is the recent installment of light-duty Duramax inline-six on trucks like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups, and gradually on all of the company’s remodeled full-sized SUVs, one of them being the 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The new lake-named vehicle will be sporting a turbocharged 3.0-liter Duramax, one out of the three available engines. Base models already have an impressive boost with 355 horsepower on a 5.3-liter V-8, while the top-tier High Country is geared up by a standard 6.2-liter with 420 horsepower. The diesel will have 277 horsepower, which is the least of the group, however, it’s 460 lb-ft of torque matches the 6.2’s engine.

Oftentimes, diesel engines come at a heftier cost, one of the reasons being that they integrate pricy exhaust-treatment systems keep their sootier emissions composed, however, that won’t be the case this time around. High Country trims, for example, include a $1500 credit as opposed to the bigger V-8. Lesser models only have a $995 line item and the most affordable Tahoe with the Duramax has a starting price of $53,295, (plus destination fee). At the same time, the inclusive High Country model starts at $69,395, (plus destination fee). Of course, these prices don’t take into account the optional equipment.

Great torque output is usually an implication for massive towing capabilities. The 3.0-liter Duramax rates the least weight out of the Tahoe’s powertrains, but it’s 8200 lb rating is still strong and tough enough to make an impact.

Choosing the Duramax won’t significantly change the driving behavior of the SUV. According to one car reviewer, their Tahoe model that was paired with a standard 10-speed automatic transmission made smooth and swift shuffles and reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds; 5.8-liter powered models were only a second faster, and 6.2’s being the fastest.

The new diesel engine option isn’t just powerful, it’s also highly capable during the winter months. Unlike older engines, the 3.0-liter makes use of a fresh coolant-control system to be able to endure freezing temperatures. The Duramax’s computer manages flow to the head, engine block, oil, transmission cooler, cabin heater, cooler, as well as low and high-pressure exhaust-gas recirculation coolers. This enables the engine to send warm coolant to the cabin heater and with necessary haste.

As one should expect with any big and bad SUV of General Motors, the diesel Tahoe has an independent rear suspension, which allows passengers to have their own personal space and also betters the quality of the ride as opposed to the previous solid-rear-axle system. On top of this, the interior quality and design have received a significant upgrade both aesthetically and comfort-wise. However, nothing compares to the car’s new and efficient diesel engine.

The next-generation Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban SUV’s Make an Entrance

New Reveal

Tuesday night (December 10, 2019), the 2021 versions of the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban were revealed by General Motors. They come with more advanced technology, they are longer and roomier than before and come with a wider range of choices for customers.

According to Kelly Blue Book, the two vehicles make up more than 40% of America’s non-luxury full-size SUV market.

As automakers are finding ways to incorporate autonomous and all-electric vehicles onto the city streets, the earnings of the vehicles are being used to assist in financing this project, this includes at least 20 new EV’s internationally by 2023.

New Features

Elements of the remodeled Chevrolet Silverado pickup inspires some designs onto the new SUVs such as the boomerang LED signature lights and large and striking grilles with horizontal bars behind Chevy’s emblem.

According to officials, the 2021 vehicles feature redesigned interiors with far greater interior space than current models, including 66% more cargo room, specifically behind the third row for the 2021 Tahoe and 19% more cargo space behind the first row of the 2021 Suburban.

As presented in the Chevrolet Silverado, three engine options will be offered: a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 hp, 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 hp and a new 3.0-liter diesel engine, with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed transmission will be matched with all engines.

The interior also embeds standard 10-inch infotainment screens and 15-inch Windshield Heads Up display (optional) for drivers, as well as 12.6-inch touchscreens for rear seats.

Tim Herrick, General Motors vice president of global product programs, described the remodeled automobiles as “the ultimate SUVs.” “On-road and -off, the all-new Suburban and Tahoe play much bigger but actually drive much smaller than before,” he said during the unveiling Tuesday night. “They offer the best of both roads,” referring to capability and handling, including a new optional air suspension system.

It is expected that the Chevy’s Tahoe and Suburban will arrive in U.S dealerships by the middle of next year with six trims including a new top-end High Country model. Pricing has not been announced, however, the starting price of current Tahoe models range from about $50,000 to $69,500. Starting prices for the Suburban currently starts between about $53,000 and $72,500.

According to General Motors, the SUVs offer 30 safety and driver convenience technologies like the standard automatic emergency braking, as well as the optional HD surround view and a rear pedestrian alert system.

As told by officials to CNBC, the new system and electrical infrastructure of the vehicles are adept at handling General Motors Super Cruise highway driver-assist system. On the flip side, the technology will not be initially offered on the SUVs.

New Plans

Mark Reuss, president of General Motors, it is expected by the automaker for the 2021 SUVs to “continue to dominate their segment.” “We are here to win. Chevrolet created the template for the modern SUV in 1935. In doing so, it created the template for winning that we’re still following today,” Reuss said during the unveiling Tuesday night. “These all-new versions will be just as dominant as they were the day they were introduced.”

By early next year, remodeled versions of the Yukon and Escalade are expected to be revealed.

Chevrolet Leads the Way WIth Reliable SUV Models

Everyday shoppers are ready to spend money on a shiny, new vehicle. Once a vehicle has been identified, customers are quick to research a vehicle they like before they finally decide on making the purchase. What is likely the most important aspect of choosing to opt for one vehicle over another is longevity. A recent study has been made public by iSeeCars.com and looked at vehicles that have 200,000 miles (remarkable longevity) and still run well. Guess what their research found? Two vehicles in their top ten included the Chevrolet Suburban and Chevrolet Tahoe. Ready to learn more about the reasons? Let’s begin.

More On the Longevity Study

With over 13.8 million pre-owned vehicles leaving lots in 2018 alone, customers more than ever want a reliable quality vehicle. The study by iSeeCars.com focused on the model years 1981 through 2018 that have gone over 200,000 miles only. The percentage of vehicles that have reached that high mile count is five percent for the Chevrolet Suburban. The Chevrolet Suburban placed second on the list with the Chevrolet Tahoe placing sixth, as the Tahoe had 3.8 percent of these vehicles sold in 2018 with over 200,000 miles logged.

While the focus was on the number of miles, there was also a focus geographically. The longest-lasting vehicles in the top 25 most dense cities, which identified that in Detroit the Chevrolet Suburban made up 7.5 percent of all cars with over 200,000 miles. Not bad considering Detroit is known as the center of the U.S. automotive industry.

Why It’s Important For A Vehicle to Be Reliable Over the Long Term

Drivers don’t know when they purchase a vehicle when they might end up selling it. Sometimes they end up being owned a lot longer than expected. There are many reasons why owning a vehicle that can last as long as possible. After purchasing a house, a vehicle is the next most important investment a person can make. The vehicles that provide the longest reliability should be considered when making any decision. While all vehicles look and drive great when they are new, to own a vehicle that can hit 200,000 miles traveled on the odometer is the goal. Just for fun, iSeeCars.com said among the pre-owned vehicles sold in 2018, very few hit 300,000 miles. As expected, vehicles don’t last forever. However, 0.2 percent of the Chevrolet Suburban hit that mark.

Both the 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe and 2019 Chevrolet Suburban have up to seating for eight. These SUVs are large and luxurious, but also quite modern with tons of amenities that help drivers and passengers alike to embrace each drive. America’s best-selling full-size SUV in the Chevrolet Tahoe and the remarkable fuel-efficient of the Suburban, a vehicle with a V8 engine at 22 highway, both offer plenty to love. Looking to drive the latest Chevrolet vehicles and see how long they can last?
