Silverado Stays True To Its Name

The Chevrolet Silverado finished 2018 with very similar numbers to 2017. This success happened despite rival brands Ford and Ram introducing all-new generation pickup variations. The Silverado sold 585,581 vehicles, more than 49,00 more vehicles than the rival Ram trucks over the course of 2018. A large reason for the sustained success came on the strength of the new Durabed truck bed produced by Chevrolet. A high-strength steel bed that was larger by 10 cubic feet from the previous model and included Best-in-class cargo volume, box length, and box depth. A stronger hauling experience for customers was matched by an improved interior.

Chevy Giving What Customers Want

Across the industry, the latest wave of pickup trucks hitting the market included a focus on increased levels of comfort for drivers; Chevrolet kept up with those demands. A wide range of choices begins with the least expensive base model, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck begins at $29,795 MSRP (plus destination fee). Drivers would want power from their pickup, but not settle for a lackluster interior for superior power. For customers that want the most out of their pickups, they would opt for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 High Country.

Drivers in 2018 fell in love with the High Country interior appointed with leather upholstery, a large 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, ventilated and heated front seats and heated rear seats for passengers. Modern technology surrounds the interior from wireless charging to multiple USB ports for the driver and passengers to use. Many made the 2019 Silverado High Country their own and didn’t have to pay a huge premium to get the best Silverado on the market. The crew cab trim for the High Country starts at $57,795 MSRP (plus destination fee).

Where The 2019 Silverado Stands

The 2019 Silverado placed in the pickup Olympics. Even with the competition being fierce, Chevrolet knew they had a good product on their hands and 2019 looks to be an even more impressive year for Chevy. Americans have a growing obsession with the full-size pickup truck segment and the Silverado is one of the reasons why.

“The Silverado has been making a slow transition to the 2019 model year. Once full production gets online in the starting months of 2019, will get a better idea of the Silverado’s market presence,” said Jeremy Acevedo, data strategist at Edmunds.

What To Expect In A Chevy

Chevrolet owners can expect great value and durability; the latest technology, well-engineered vehicles and recognition from top automotive sources. Interested buyers will be happy with the latest Chevrolet Silverado and its strong powertrain options. The 5.3-Liter V8 eight-speed automatic and 6.2-Liter V8 with 10-speed automatic transmission both offer more than a 5 percent improvement in city fuel economy, now hitting 17 city MPG. The highway miles per gallon has gotten better as well, getting drivers up to 23 mpg for the 2019 Silverado. Models with the four-wheel drive and 6.2-Liter V8 gain an impressive fuel economy of 16 city and 20 highway MPG. The latest Chevy trucks were successful in 2018 and look to have another fantastic year in 2019.

Chevrolet has enjoyed a good year for both innovative new vehicles and more acclaim for their craftsmanship. Chevy found success with their all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 and 2019 Chevy Trax. As 2018 draws to an end, let’s recap the latest Chevy vehicles that have come out. Let’s start with the all-new Chevrolet Silverado, a stunning example of one of the highlights in 2018 for Chevrolet. There’s something for everyone within the latest Chevy vehicles!

All-New 2019 Chevrolet Silverado

The newest Silverado from Chevrolet is an enhanced and well amplified light-duty pickup truck. The 2019 Silverado extended its bed size by 10 cubic feet from the former model and worked to claim the Best-in-class cargo volume, box length and box depth. Through the enhancement of their truck bed, new frame and overall interior, Chevy knew they had to name their truck bed to differentiate itself from other companies. They named the truck bed the Chevy Durabed and it is far more superior than what is offered from the competition in the pickup market. The Durabed is so strong it can endure 72518.9 pounds of pressure-per-square-inch, reaching over double the former Silverado rating from the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado truck.

Not only did the Durabed help raise the value of the all-new Silverado, owners have the choice of three available transmissions, (six, eight and 10-speed options). The Crew Cab models have increased the to over 500 pounds more with the maximum towing capacity up to 12,200 pounds with the 6.2-Liter V8 engine and four-wheel-drive. Owners will also have best-in-class box depth and box length at floor, with the standard box reaching 79 inches, 3 more than the Ford F-Series and Ram 1500. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado starts at $29,795 MSRP (plus destination fee) for the base model Work Truck. The most valuable, superior 2019 Silverado High Country begins at $54,495 MSRP (plus destination fee). Thanks to the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, Chevy has attracted many new customers. Chevrolet Announces 2020 Chevy Silverado HD

Miami Lakes Automall 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Jeez, it’s only been a few weeks since the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was showcased by the General Motors Corporation. With many trim levels for the 2019 model year and many powertrains, consumers could get a Silverado pickup truck designed for their needs and purposes. Around the same time, the Chevrolet Silverado was voted as “Truck of the Year” by editors and writers from AutoGuide who took the Chevy Silverado for a test drive. Well, Chevrolet must be listening to their consumers, because soon after they unveiled the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, the 2020 Chevy Silverado HD was announced to debut in February 2019.

For those keeping count, this is the third all-new Silverado model from Chevrolet in just 18 months. Being the HD model, not only is it a very capable pickup truck of the lineup, but the 2020 model is said to be the most capable and advanced Silverado HD ever. Just another Silverado model to appeal to the variety of Chevrolet customers…or is it?

Set to be built at the Flint Assembly plant in Flint, Michigan, the new Silverado HD will be starting off with a bolder body sculpted for the heavy-duty functionality it gets its name for. Although some may confuse it with the Silverado 1500, aside from the roof, every piece of sheet metal is exclusive to Silverado HD. Built from the ground-up, this assembly plant is going to have a lot of work to meet the standards of Chevrolet and Chevrolet consumers.

Chevy Debuts New Commercial-Duty Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, 6500HD

Chevrolet Unveils the 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD a

As Chevy said they’d do, Chevy debuted the new Chevy Silverado medium-duty truck at the Work Truck Show in early March, but Chevy kept a secret until its debut. Originally the new medium-duty Silverado lineup was only going to include the Class 4 (Silverado 4500HD) and Class 5 (Silverado 550HD) truck, but now we know that Chevy will also make a Class 6 (Silverado 6500 HD) truck as well.

Chevy’s expansion into medium-duty trucks is not entirely new for the automaker. Before 2009 Chevy offered medium-duty trucks, but they paused production on that until now, and Chevy intends to come back strong, and competitors like Ford and Ram will definitely have new competition.

According to an article published by Automotive News, “GM executives, however, believe the Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD and 6500HD are differentiated enough from the competition to eventually gain upward of a 25 to 30 percent share of the medium-duty truck segment, matching pre-bankruptcy levels.”

The inspiration behind the design of the new trucks came from listening to the needs and wants of the people that will be using and working with the trucks, including fleet managers, truck drivers, upfitters, technicians and Chevrolet dealers.

The new Silverado 4500HD, Silverado 550HD and Silverado 6500HD will be equipped with a  6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine that produces 350 horsepower and 700 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine will be paired to an Allison transmission with a Power Take Off (PTO) option and the trucks will be available in two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.

“When you consider all of the flexibility, capability and durability we have engineered into the Silverado, along with the proven power of Allison transmissions and the Duramax diesel engine, we have a medium duty truck line that will appeal to both Chevrolet loyalists and competitive owners alike,” said John Schwegman, director of Commercial Product and Medium Duty at GM Fleet.

In addition to offering solutions to problems dealers and drivers have experienced with other commercial trucks, Chevy has also made technology a big focus. The new commercial Silverado trucks will be available with OnStar and Commercial Link, a built-in 4GLTE Wi-Fi hotspot (paid data plan required), wireless cellphone charging, Bluetooth and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Chevy says production of the new fleet will begin in late 2018 and pricing will be announced this summer.

Chevy Silverado 1500 Engine Options and Towing Capacities

Miami-Lakes-Chevrolet-silverado-1500-Trailering-towing-guide

The biggest reasons people buy trucks like the light-duty Chevy Silverado 1500 is for the convenience of transporting large objects in the truck bed and towing abilities. While truck bed options are pretty straight forward, there are a lot of things that consumers don’t realize affect a truck’s towing capacity.

Engine

A truck’s powertrain is the most dominant factor when it comes to towing capacity. A truck’s engine and transmission produce the horsepower and torque, which are the biggest factors in how much weight a truck is able to tow. The Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with three engines:

4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6 engine

285 horsepower / 305 lb-ft of torque
Hyrda-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission
Max Towing Capacity: 7,600 pounds

5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine

355 horsepower / 383 lb-ft of torque
Hyrda-Matic 6-speed automatic transmission or Hyrda-Matic 8-speed automatic transmission
Max Towing Capacity: 9,800 pounds (without Max. Trailering Package)

6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine

420 horsepower / 460 lb-ft of torque
Hyrda-Matic 8-speed automatic transmission
Max Towing Capacity: 9,400 pounds (without Max. Trailering Package)

However, not all Chevy Silverado 1500 models with the same engine and transmission that produce the same amount of horsepower and torque can tow the same amount and that’s due to the overall weight of the truck (truck cab and other equipment), as well as the truck’s axle ratio.

That’s because the power (horsepower and torque) a truck produces has a maximum amount of work (in this case towing capacity) that is can do, and that amount of work changes based on the truck’s weight. The more a truck weighs, the less it will be able to tow.

The weight of a truck varies based on the size of the truck cab as well as the other equipment on the truck. Trucks that are equipped with four-wheel-drive typically have a lower towing capacity (typically less than a couple hundred pounds) than trucks with two-wheel-drive because the extra equipment needed to transfer Miami-Lakes-Chevy-Silverado-1500-trailer-tow-guidetorque to all four wheels, or in other words, the four-wheel-drive equipment, adds weight to the truck, and that weight takes away from the amount of weight a truck can tow. The same thing applies to other equipment that may be on a truck like audio systems, seating materials and interior features.

Axle Ratio

Aside from the power an engine produces, a truck’s towing capacity is also affected by a truck’s axle ratio. Typically, higher axle ratios deliver more torque to the wheels, which increases the amount of pulling power. However, higher axle ratios also decrease a vehicle’s fuel economy, so it’s important to determine how much pulling power you actually need.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with a few different axle ratios. The standard axle ratios include a 3.08, 3.23, 3.42, and the 5.3-liter V6 engine and 6.2-liter V8 engine are both available with a Max. Trailering Package that includes a 3.73 axle ratio.

When the Chevy Silverado 1500 is equipped with a 5.3L engine and the Max. Trailering Package it has a max towing capacity of 11,000 pounds (1,700 pounds more than the standard max towing capacity) and when the Chevy Silverado 1500 is equipped with a 6.2L engine and the Max. Trailering Package it has a max towing capacity of 12,500 pounds (3,100 pounds more than the standard max towing capacity).
