The Next-Gen Chevy Equinox Gets Spotted In A Boxier Design

Spy Shots On The Upcoming Equinox

The upcoming Chevrolet Equinox was recently captured in spy shots outside General Motors’ Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan. Chevrolet keeps hiding the 2025 model in a camouflage get-up, making its design and shape unclear.

What has been gathered from the spy shots is that the 2025 Equinox appears boxier than the present model, possibly bringing on styling elements from the Traverse SUV that’s also in the midst of a revamp. The new look also has a more upright front end and a squared-off rear.

The slotted grille can be seen through the mesh casing of the front, which also shields the headlights. The daytime running lights hint at the car’s face, but that’s the extent of the similarities. The combustion-powered Equinox appears more prepared for off-roading than the current model and mightier than its electrified version.

Spy photographers still haven’t been able to get a good glimpse of an interior, which should also get a reworked design with a more significant focus on screens and tech features, as the company released the Equinox EV with a dual-screen setup on the dashboard.

While there isn’t much information regarding the powertrain setup for the next generation of the Equinox, the current model uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 175 horsepower with 203 lb-ft of torque. This is the only engine available across the lineup, and it’s plausible that it could also be used for the upcoming model with some minor upgrades. The company could add a hybrid configuration to make it even more effective.

Chevrolet will sell the reworked SUV and the latest Equinox EV (set to go on sale in the fall of this year). This electric Equinox will involve different styling elements and offer up to 300 miles of range. The front-wheel-drive (FWD) version has an estimated output of 210 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) dual-motor setup musters 290 horses. The base-level 1LT will have a starting price of around $30,000 (plus destination fee).

The new Chevrolet Equinox should introduce itself later, likely going on sale in early 2024 for the 2025 model year. As with other automakers, Chevrolet is phasing from gas-powered vehicles to only producing electric models. Namely, the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, and Silverado EV will go on sale by the end of this year, getting in on the action with the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV.

The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD Has Become Technologically Sound

The Chevy Silverado is known for its durable design and remarkable off-road performance that is hard to find from any other brand. However, this full-size truck is not known for its in-car technologies…until now.

GM Authority reports that the 2024 Silverado HD truck will now involve Wireless Phone Projection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, serving as a standard across all trim levels. This technology will be applied to both 2500 HD and 3500 HD series trucks.

One should know that the latest Silverado HD Work Truck (WT) and Custom models are geared with the brand’s Infotainment 3 system with a seven-inch touchscreen.

At the same time, the LT, LTZ, and highest-ranking High Country Silverados are fixed with the company’s Infotainment 3 Premium system with Google included. These particular HDs come standard with a 13.4-inch touchscreen.

Creating standard wireless phone projection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto throughout every trim level of the latest Chevy Silverado HD is a considerable change from the 2023 model. On this year’s HD, the accessibility of the wireless phone projection was based on the following trim levels:

  • Work Truck (WT): not available
  • Custom: not available
  • LT: only available as part of the Convenience Package II or the Advanced Trailing Package (ZL6)
  • LTZ: standard feature
  • High Country: standard feature

General Motors is making other improvements to the 2024 Silverado HD, specifically by either lessening or doing away with some features and producing others that were either optional or unavailable on some trims, making them standard.

These improvements are part of the Silverado’s refresh for the mid-cycle. The latest HD gets a reworked front fascia with new headlights for a more intensive, high-end look. Inhouse, the Silverado has an entirely restructured cockpit for LT, LTZ, and High Country models, implementing a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a center stack with the aforementioned 13.4-inch touchscreen.

The 2024 Silverado HD will have lower 12-volt outlet availability. The front auxiliary power outlet will still serve as a standard feature on WT and Custom models but not on LT, LTZ, and High Country trims. Meanwhile, the rear auxiliary 12-volt outlet is eliminated from all trims.

The revamped Silverado HD tacks on a plethora of standards and options. Automatic Emergency Braking is now featured as a standard on every model. The automaker will make Adaptive Cruise Control a standalone option or included as part of the numerous optional packages contingent on the trim.

At last, the Z71 Off-Road Package can be had on the Custom model for the first time, as it was previously only accessible on the WT, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Orders opened up for the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD last month, with the MSRP starting price at $45,295 (plus destination fee) for the 2-wheel-drive 2500 HD WT and extends to $75,995 (plus destination fee) MSRP for a 4-wheel-drive 3500 HD High Country with a crew cab, long bed, and dual rear wheel (DRW) set-up.

The Chevy Bolt Wins Edmunds Over With Its Practical Charm

The Chevrolet Bolt EV was recently selected as Edmunds Top Rated Electric Car for 2023. You read that right. This small, electric bow-tied hatchback was deemed too “impossible to ignore,” by the car review website that it simply couldn’t go unnoticed. Edmunds said that utility, handy features, a healthy range rating, and a fantastically low price of entry” made it the obvious choice for their Top Rated Electric Car for 2023.

While the Bolt EV isn’t the most prestigious car out there, nor is it made to weave in and out through the freeway, it doesn’t need to be because that’s not what makes it unique. Instead, the Bolt combines all your basic needs with driving, utility, and style, ultimately providing an economical package deal.

Starting off, one of the best qualities of the Bolt EV is its affordability. With an MSRP of $27,495 (plus destination fee) for the base level, this car is one of the most accessible cars to buy for the current model year, especially one that is electric. For the price of just one base Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, you can likely purchase several Bolts. It even outranks the Tesla Model 3 by $20,000. This car is a complete package deal, proving to have remarkable value on the inside out.

The 2023 Bolt has an EPA-estimated range of 259 miles, a number which Edmunds whipped by 19 miles in their real-world range test. This car has more range than other rivals, with much larger batteries than its 66-kWh unit. One might also be stunned by how efficient the hatch is. The American review site said that 54 out of 62 cars ran through the same loop, and the Bolt required less energy. They also mentioned that the car would be more suitable for longer trips than similarly priced competitors such as the Mini Cooper SE and Mazda MX-30.

Moving on to its usefulness—the newest Bolt is an incredibly functional hatch. It’s clear that it means business when providing a family of four with function and space. There are plenty of practical compartments and useful areas in the vehicle while leveraging its tiny body for tight parking spaces. On top of this, the electric powertrain brings the magic to small cars usually powered by regular unfined gas engines. This clean 65 kWh lithium-ion battery results in a smooth and well-mannered ride, one that isn’t common to find in this class.

Blending its effectiveness, high range rating, and accessibility, buyers get an EV that’s nearly guaranteed to bring them more life than any gas guzzler has even been able to do. The ownership of the 2023 Bolt is one that very few buyers will regret, if any, Particularly those working with very tight budgets. The latest Bolt won Edmunds’s s Top Rated Electric Car award without being flashy or a showoff on the highway but simply arresting the basics.

The 2024 E-Ray Makes A Dramatic Entrance On The Corvette’s 70th Birthday

2024 E-Ray Debut

On the 70th anniversary of the Chevy Corvette, first introduced at Motorama in New York City, the automaker returned to show off its metamorphosed fully-electric version. Spinning off the Stingray moniker, the 2024 E-Ray is an all-wheel-drive (AWD) monster with a dynamic 6.2L LT2 Small Block V-8.

“In 1953, the enthusiastic reaction to the Chevrolet Corvette concept kicked off seven decades of passion, performance and American ingenuity,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors president. “E-Ray, as the first electrified, all-wheel-drive Corvette, takes it a step further and expands the promise of what Corvette can deliver.”

This new Vette, which comes in either a removable roof coupe or hardtop convertible, uses its electric power to augment the driving experience with a fierce straight-line performance, all-weather protection, and race-car-like capabilities that succeed thanks to eAWD.

The E-Ray is the only sports vehicle that matches two separate propulsion systems to provide a naturally aspirated V-8 power with swift responsiveness powered by eAWD.

“Corvette has been a halo for Chevrolet since 1953,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “E-Ray’s unprecedented blend of confidence, luxury performance, sophistication, and style provides a new reason for more people to experience the Corvette.”

The Stingray E-Ray is the fastest production Vette in history, scoring a 2.5-second 0-60 mph time before zooming through the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds.

“Corvettes must provide an exhilarating driving experience on backroads and tracks, and E-Ray nails it,” said Tadge Juechter, chief executive engineer, Corvette. “The electrification technology enhances the feeling of control in all conditions, adding an unexpected degree of composure.”

The 6.2L LT2 Small Block V-8 is responsible for the high-intensity drive, producing 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. It works with an electric motor that channels an extra 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels using a 1.9 kWh battery pack. Ultimately, this amplified Corvette produces a combined 655 horsepower from the electric motor and V-8 engine.

Upscale Design

The appearance of the E-Ray keeps its sporty and performance-centered style from the previous Corvettes. The car also maintains its wide-body Z06 proportions, with fitting wide wheels that allow for better torque delivery. The alloy wheels even have an excellent twisted five-spoke star design that solely belongs to the E-Ray.

“There’s never been a Corvette like E-Ray, and its sophisticated design reflects that,” said Phil Zak, executive design director, Global Chevrolet. “It starts with the body color trim, which draws your full attention to the exotic proportions of the E-Ray. The interiors allow customers to reflect their individual personalities with their choice of color executions that provide a refined or dynamic sport look and feel.”

Standout design features include:

  • Four aluminum wheel finishes
  • Fourteen exterior color choices, like the new 2024 Riptide Blue, Seawolf Gray, and Cacti
  • A special body-length stripe package in Electric Blue
  • Standard carbon flash badging
  • Optional black exhaust tips and bright badging
  • Optional carbon fiber ground effects
  • Available carbon fiber wheels in carbon flash, visible carbon fiber finish, or visible carbon fiber with a red stripe

The all-electric Vette also brings in a new Artemis Dipped interior, with harmonious deep green tones on almost every surface. This will be the only color available on the new E-Rays. There are several options for shoppers when customizing their new ride, such as two carbon fiber trim packages, three seat choices, seven interior colors, and much more.

On top of this, new Charge+ and Stop/Start buttons are featured on the console, along with advancements to the infotainment system and instrument cluster centered at allowing a more cohesive appearance.

And Later…

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray is set to go on sale this year (2023) with a starting MSRP of $104,2954 (plus destination fee) for the 1LZ coupe and $111,2954 (plus destination fee) for the 1LZ convertible model. Production is ready to go at GM’s Bowling Green Assembly facility in Kentucky from North American and globally sourced parts.

The Big Reveal For The 2024 Corvette E-Ray Is Set This Week Tuesday

2024 AWD Corvette E-Ray

Chevrolet recently revealed a teaser for their upcoming electric Corvette E-Ray, featuring revving noises similar to your standard internal combustion engine, only to slyly show the quiet EV driving in the next scene. Though a full reveal of the electric Vette model would have been ideal, we’re still pumped to see all that Chevy offers.

GM president Mark Reuss spilled the beans in April of last year, “We will offer an electrified and a fully electric, Ultium-based Corvette in the future.”

Though word of a fully-electrified Corvette EV has yet to be officially dropped, there has been talk for a few months that the company was going to shake up the Corvette lineup and their EV brand as a whole, involving SUVs and four-door iterations. For those wondering if the Corvette EV was going to shake things up, a four-door SUV Corvette will certainly (for better or for worse) cause a frenzy.

Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer, as the next piece to this mystery is scheduled to be revealed tomorrow, January 17, in the Big Apple. It also marks the 70th anniversary of the debut of the original Corvette in 1952 at the Waldorf Astoria.

Corvette revealed at GM Motorama

On January 17, 1953, a prototype Chevrolet Corvette sports car debuted at General Motors (GM) Motorama auto show at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The Corvette, named for a fast type of naval warship, would eventually become an iconic American muscle car and remains in production today.

Likely the most intriguing part of all this is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) system if the internal combustion engine and electric motors intertwine. The question remains if that will be the case. Then, if so, how?

For example, a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) combustion engine could add charge to the front-wheel-drive (FWD) EV motor through regen or an alternator power cable. A considerable battery and plug will enable drivers to do simple city driving without engaging the gasoline engine. The famous automaker indicated that an AWD model could be the first electric Corvette that doesn’t spin out of control during snowy seasons.

For years, the parent company, General Motors, has been saying “EVs for everyone”; however, the company (like most other automakers) is still in the initial stages of fulfilling that promise. For the time being, only a few high-end or high-value vehicles of the brand have been pushed, like the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV Electrek Car of the Year 2022 winner), and the Bolt EV.

Although more than an electric Stingray E-Ray will be needed to fill out the middle-man, Chevrolet alone has three big launches scheduled for this year. Namely, the (fleets only) Silverado EV in the spring, the swift Blazer SS EV in the summer, and the value-centered Equinox EV in the fall.

All The Dirt On The Upcoming 2024 Chevrolet E-Ray

The Chevy Corvette has been an iconic staple in the history of American sports cars. Its first iteration dating back to 1953, this two-door luxury Stingray has captured the hearts of sports enthusiasts and general audiences on a wide scale.

Now, this Vette nameplate is making headlines with its latest iteration for 2024, specifically the electric E-Ray. Here’s the latest!

The 2024 Chevrolet E-Ray

The Stingray has now become the E-Ray. Parent company General Motors already trademarked the name in 2015, then renewed it in August 2020. Though trademarks don’t always transition to the production phase, more than likely, Chevrolet will bring the E-Ray onto the highways and race tracks.

What Do We Know About The Engine?

Regarding the E-Ray’s powertrain, the Chevy company keeps things under wraps. However, there is talk that this electrified Stingray may arrive with the same 6.2-liter V8 engine from the current C8 Corvette but with the addition of either one or two electric motors. The arrangement of these motors could lead to an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The output will likely be around 650 horsepower.

Due to the electric motors and the possible AWD, the Stingray E-Ray will perform much better than the regular Vette car. Contingent on how powerful the electric motors are, the E-Ray may be even swifter with 60 mph than the Corvette Z06.

What Type Of Electric Vehicle Is The E-Ray?

The all-new Corvette E-Ray will likely be a hybrid of some sort, perhaps even a PHEV (plug-in hybrid) variation. Both have similar components, but PHEVs have larger battery packs that allow them to travel longer distances on fully electrified power. These types of hybrids can also get their juice at a regular charging station, while hybrid vehicles get their source of energy from regenerative braking. Images of the car’s configurator showed a “Regen on Demand” button inside, suggesting that the vehicle will have different levels of regenerative braking.

Indeed, the first iteration of the E-Ray won’t be an all-electric vehicle, as the automaker has already confirmed that a fully-electric version will be coming in the future.

Exterior Changes

As far as the aesthetics are concerned, the leaked images of the 2024 E-Ray revealed that this speedy car bares much resemblance to the regular Stingray car. Although the front fascia has a similar style to the Z06, the leaked images from the company’s configurator showed slightly augmented front fins on the fascia. From the rear end, it’s expected that there will be quad exhaust outlets that retreat from the side of the car, along with the added vents on the rear bumper.

It’s also expected that the E-Ray will be available in unique exterior paint colors encompassing Cacti Green, Sea Wolf gray, and a new variation of blue.

The Fate Of The Chevrolet Malibu

Is The Chevy Malibu Here To Stay?

For the past few years, there’s been a significant emphasis on SUVs in North America, leaving some of previous fan-favored sedans or hatchbacks on the backburner…except for the Chevrolet Malibu. Word on the automotive street is that this mid-sizer could be cruising around the American stateside for at least one more generation.

Keep in mind that this rumor follows after previous talk of the Malibu sedan being discontinued in 2024. The car blog site, GM Authority supposedly has an inside source confirming that a new generation is set for 2025 and might journey along a reformed version of its current platform. Another site, Motor1, reached Chevy for possible word on this allegation but for the moment, their questions haven’t been answered.

While the car company hasn’t confirmed…or denied these rumors, there appears to be some persuasive evidence to back the Malibu’s continued lifespan. While we’re still waiting for the automaker’s final sales figures for 2022, through October, the car’s sales were up a jaw-dropping 148 percent compared to 2021. The company reported that 79,799 units were sold through the first three quarters of the year, whilst only 39,376 Malibu sedans were sold for all of 2021.

To compare, the Chevy Malibu has outsold various notable SUVs by the bowtie company, like the Blazer, Traverse, Trailblazer, Suburban, and Tahoe. It’s also outperforming the Chevy Colorado; however, sales for this truck could expand next year owing to the new-generation model that was released last July. Moving out of the confines of its parent company, General Motors (GM), the mid-size Malibu is still far from ranking as the best-selling sedan, as this honor is bestowed upon the Toyota Camry. This car achieved 214,403 sales through October 2022.

If the Malibu continues to show what it’s made of for second-generation using a reformed version of its current platform, that hints that it would offer internal combustion power. Alternatively, as with other car manufacturers, GM isn’t so keen on promoting gasoline-powered vehicles these days, as it’s focusing its efforts on its Ultium-powered electric vehicles. Then, with states such as California and Oregon wanting to ban new internal-combustion car sales by 2035, there may or may not be enough time for one more gasoline-powered generation.

The Chevy Malibu nameplate has a long history in the automotive industry, dating back to 1964. After a bit of a pause for most of the 1980s and 1990s, it made a comeback in 1997 and has been a significant part of the company’s sedan lineup ever since. The current-gen Malibu dates back to 2016, with a mid-cycle refresh hitting in 2019. Some of the best features of the current Malibu include wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Keyless Entry Keypad, Automatic Parking Assist, Wireless charging, Teen Driver, and Buckle to Drive. All of these features can be found in the 2023 model for a starting MSRP of $24,700 (plus destination fee).

Chevrolet Literally Pays It Forward To 2022 HBCU Marketing And Journalism Interns

This month, Chevrolet and the National Newspaper Publishers Association completed their sixth year of “Discover the Unexpected.” This is a ten-week internship and scholarship program for 11 HBCU students, five involved in marketing and six with journalism. The program is meant for these individuals to delve into marketing roles centered on General Motors’ vision for a fully-electric future and journalism with the NNPA organization.

“Chevrolet is honored to continue our partnership with the NNPA for DTU, providing HBCU students professional and personal growth opportunities,” said Steve Majoros, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing. “The fellows made an impact on our Chevy Marketing team as they navigated new experiences – including working with large corporations, virtual work environments and time management skills – and learned how to effectively convey the benefits of EVs to their local communities, all while exemplifying professionalism and passion.”

On a national level, NNPA publishers also facilitated the activities for the six journalism majors this summer. These individuals were presented with print, broadcast, digital, and photojournalism skills, together with experiencing the Chevrolet Bolt EUV in person.

“The NNPA and Chevrolet partnership has been and continues to be extremely productive supporting aspiring journalists and amplifying their voices” said NNPA President and CEO Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. “Students worked alongside our renowned publishers for an in-depth experience while understanding how to bridge the gap between traditional and new-age journalism, and we cannot wait to see how their stories change EV myths within their communities.”

During the course of the program, students were able to build content and enticing stories related to the Chevy Bolt EUV, electrification, and EV adoption, enabling them to serve agents of change within their local communities.

Antonio Andrews, a fellow 2022 DTU student, said he applied to the program because he wanted to work with electric vehicles. “The automotive industry is undergoing its largest transition since inception,” he stated. “To be able to give insight and have access to new and innovative concepts is a dream come true.”

The 2022 DTU program was expanded by significant industry mentors and reputable alums. Terrance J, American actor, model, and entertainer, who is a program ambassador, marshaled the students in New Orleans as they engaged in The Big Easy Bolt Race. This is a systematized team ride-and-drive scavenger hunt to understand more about electrification on top of Black history and New Orleans culture.

“As a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a mass communication degree, I understand the passion and enthusiasm that HBCU students bring to the table,” said Jenkins. “I was elated to work alongside these students and provide an opportunity to connect and motivate each of them into their future careers.”

Justin Shaifer, TV host, producer, and STEM advocate returned to DTU as the fellows’ mentor for the second year, encouraging students to “take what you’re asked to do and go above and beyond to operate with excellence at every step” during the program’s closing ceremonies in Detroit. He continued, “This is a phenomenal program, and it was an honor to be a part of these incredible young professionals.”

Emmanuel Dorvil, a former DTU fellow and current DMAX group leader explained while musing on the DTU program that the college venture equipped him for his career at General Motors, “My foot was on the gas pedal for my career. I had to ensure I was always prepared, whether it involved vehicle releases or increasing multicultural diversity with EV consumption. The exposure of this program sets you apart – the ability to connect with others is what we need as aspiring young professionals.”

Chevrolet gifted each of these students with a $10,000 scholarship and a $5,000 stipend. Thus far, DTU has awarded 49 HBCU students over $600,000.

The 2023 Chevrolet Equinox Gets High Praise From Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports

The Chevy Equinox crossover isn’t just a best-selling utility vehicle of the company; it’s also the bow-tie brand’s second best-selling vehicle before the Silverado truck. Recently, the non-profit product testing site, Consumer Reports, has given the 2023 Chevy Equinox a “recommended” rating.

This rating comes from a few different tests:

  • Road test rating – 77/100
  • Owner satisfaction rating – 3/5
  • Predicated reliability rating – 3/5

These three categories created an overall score of 67 out of 100 points.

For the performance category, Consumer Reports gave the Equinox compact a 4/5 for transmission and braking and a 3/5 for acceleration and emergency handling. The formerly named Consumers Union noted that the SUV offered good road manners, though they felt that the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine seemed to lack refinement.

Concerning Owner Satisfaction, owners rated the driving experience as 68/100. Comfort received 64/100, while value got 56/100.

As for reliability, the Equinox SUV received a score of 46/100. Considering other vehicles in its class, this puts the vehicle near the bottom half, smothering competitors like the Ford Escape Hybrid and Tesla Model Y with scores of 42/100 and 38/100, respectively.

All in all, Chevrolet performed well in Consumer Reports’ latest rankings. On top of the Equinox, four other 2023 Chevy models obtained a recommended rating, including the Chevy C8 Corvette, Chevy Blazer, Chevy Trailblazer, and Chevy Traverse.

It’s worth noting that the newest Chevy Equinox received its most significant update by implementing the formerly mentioned LSD engine. The all-new powertrain has an output of 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque, swapping out the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine. Heedless of the new powertrain, the company’s same 6–speed automatic transmission found in previous model years of the crossover acts as the only transmission option.

Regarding the structure, the Chevy Equinox journeys on the parent company, General Motor’s D2 platform. Production started on August 22nd at the GM San Luis Potosí plant and the GM Ramos Arizpe plant.

Best Features Of The 2023 Chevy Equinox

OnStar

This system provides services like emergency service calls, roadside assistance, and vehicle diagnostics. A 5-year subscription comes with every new Equinox SUV.

Hands-Free Tailgate Operation

The rise of a foot near the sensor will activate the tailgate’s opening. One should know, however, that this will only be found on the top-ranking Premier trim. It’s only until the RS trim that a powered tailgate can be made an option.

Safety Alert Seat

Lastly, this vibrating seat cushion warns drivers of approaching hazards. It can sense what’s coming from the left side of the driver and the right side. This feature is also exclusive to Premier models.

The Chevy Malibu Sedan Gets Recharged

A Chevy Malibu EV Sedan?

This past decade, we’ve seen a significant surge in the popularity of SUVs and crossovers, ultimately leading to the slow downfall of Chevrolet’s previous fan-favorite, the Malibu sedan. For the past few years, this mid-sizer has been showing its age regarding its gradual fade into obscurity. However, all hope is not lost because there is the future of the Malibu car; according to General Motors president Mark Reuss, the automaker will have another electric revamp. During a recent Investor Day presentation in China, Reuss revealed that Chevrolet is toling with a “low-roof” EV that will have sedan-like proportions.

The upcoming electric sedan has just moved into the early stages of development. Still, according to Reuss, the design is quite “dramatic,” saying that the EV will take up the same mid-size segment as the current-gen Malibu. This possible successor has already been approved for the Chinese market, as sedans are still a hot commodity there, but the company may eventually offer this car in North America. Reuss seemed to entertain the thought of the EV’s availability in the U.S., saying at the function, “… we’ll see the desirability as we clinic this.”

Chevrolet recently introduced an electric sedan concept in China dubbed the FNR-XE. Its design gives us a taste of the EV that Reuss suggested. On top of this, the concept is derived from the Ultium battery platform. The overall shape resembles the Honda e:N2 concept, which was revealed for China last month. Honda and GM are already joining forces for the electric crossovers, with the Chevy Blazer EV and Honda Prologue acting as bunkmates for the same platform.

GM introduced four new EV models derived from the platform, but the other three that have been introduced include the Cadillac Lyriq, GMC Hummer EV, and the Buick Electra-X.

GM said at the function:

“From fuel to electric, from horsepower to computing power, new technology has become a new engine to drive the upgrading of automobile products and promote the leapfrog development of the automobile industry.”

The Malibu’s possible fully-electrified successor will be introduced to the Chinese market toward the end of 2024. Therefore, if GM decided to bring it to the U.S., it likely wouldn’t begin until at least 2025.

While various customers have been captivated by SUVs in recent years, the Malibu sedan still represents a good chunk of Chevy’s sales. After seeing a significant decline in 2021, specifically a drop of 102,651 units in 2020 to just 39,376 units, the Malibu bounced back this year, with nearly 80,000 units sold through the third quarter.

While there is still a market for sedans in North America, an electric version of the Malibu may be what the company needs to bring a full-on resurgence to the car, especially as we shy away from gas-powered vehicles.
