General Motors Makes Great Strides In Their Pledge To Responsible Water Management

GM Keeps Their Promise

General Motors (GM) recently revealed plans regarding environmental soundness. The multinational automaker wants to diminish the intensity of its water operations, with the goal to lessen the amount by 2035. The result of this scheme could save enough water that’s the equivalent of 4,254 swimming pools…and we mean Olympic-sized.

On top of this, the company showcased their commitment to contributing to a greener future by signing the CEO Water Mandate. In this linking up with other world business leaders, they acknowledged problems regarding water and also strengthened connections with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

“The CEO Water Mandate will help us accelerate our water stewardship goals and contribute to the UN SDGs,” said Kristen Siemen, chief sustainability officer at General Motors. “As we continue to drive efficiencies in our own manufacturing, we will also work with other endorsing companies to establish, implement and advocate for water stewardship practices that promote corporate water management that benefit people, our communities and our environment.”

GM will also make headway by tracking its water progress and successes in accordance with the mandate’s six main commitment areas: Direct Operations; Supply Chain and Watershed Management; Collective Action; Public Policy; Community Engagement; and Transparency.

Even though the company’s operations aren’t considered to be water-intensive, the use of water is still necessary for certain manufacturing processes. However, GM says that they are committed to using water responsibly and efficiently, particularly in regions where it’s scarce. Three highlighting examples include:

  • Zero Liquid Discharge: In the San Luis Potosí Assembly plant located in Mexico, the system will reduce its dependence on well water withdrawal, cleansing and converting wastewater into drinkable water for the GM’s paint and machining undertakings, also encompassing lessons water withdrawal from the local aquifer thanks to its reuse of water.
  • Stormwater Reuse: At the automaker’s Factory ZERO plant located in Detroit, they’ve constructed a way to reuse stormwater using harnessing its cooling towers and manufacturing systems, in addition to added stormwater ponds and filtration technology to reduce stormwater excess to the Detroit River. Moreover, the stormwater ponds have been especially helpful in the city during days with heavy storms.
  • Water Treasure Hunts: GM has made a habit of ushering these hints to aid in training local plant employees in pointing out opportunities for water efficiency and applying solutions. Last year, the automaker’s eco-friendly efforts regarding their management were rewarded by the acknowledgment of the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), an international nonprofit organization, on its Water A-List. The CDP is responsible for setting the standard for global disclosures regarding investors, companies, cities, states, and regions to conserve their impacts on the environment. The company says that they will continue to take action and find creative ways to uphold water quality and preservation throughout its operations, supply chain, and manufacturing communities.

Chevrolet Excels As The Third Most Leased Car Brand In North America

Experian Lists Top 20 Leased U.S. Vehicles

Experian, a multinational consumer credit reporting company recently established twenty of the most leased new vehicles in North America during the course of the fourth quarter 2020 calendar year. As stated by Experian’s most recent report, Chevrolet was ranked as the third most leased car brand in the States during the specified time span.

As claimed by the latest Experian report, approximately 9.21 percent of Chevrolet vehicles made up of all those leased in North America amidst Q4 of 2020. Leading the pack with the highest-ranking leased model was Honda with 11.6 percent, afterward with Toyota by 11.16 percent. The Jeep then came in fourth with 5.47 percent, thereupon Ford at fifth with 5.41 percent.

Although GMC hides a bit farther down the list, it still brings in a solid 2.38 percent while ranking at sixteenth place. Cadillac comes in at the nineteenth place with 1.76 percent.

The latest scoop from Experian doesn’t just reveal rank but also assess financing types of all the leased new vehicles that were mentioned. For instance, financing for Chevrolet cars were biased towards loans, as 26.82 percent leased, while 73.18 percent brought out a loan.

As expected, Experian pointed out SUVs as the main segment that buyers financed new cars during Q4 of the 2020 calendar year, specifically with more than 55 percent of new vehicles financed placing into the SUV segment. This encompasses 4.66 percent of full-size models, 25.72 percent of mid-size vehicles, and 25.14 percent of small cars. Full-size pickup truck models made up 13.98 percent of new vehicles financed, during which mid-size pickups composed 3.95 percent of the bunch. Mid-size sedans comprised 9.85 percent of financed vehicles, while small sedans made up 8.27 percent.

Moreover, these figures also reveal a year-over-year downturn concerning the percentage of new vehicles loan and leases, such as with 85.19 percent in financing for new vehicles in Q4 of 2019, opposed to 81.12 percent over the same time span in 2020.

What’s impressive is that electric and hybrid models currently account for 6.2 percent of financing for new vehicles, involving 2.25 percent that are all-electric, and 4.47 percent that are hybrids. This is a dramatic increase as opposed to 2019, which had 1.39 percent for fully-electric models, and 2.9 percent for hybrids.

The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban Model Are All The Rage Among Chevrolet Buyers

The New Kids On The Block

The latest and greatest 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe, as well as the 2021 Chevrolet Suburban full-size SUVs are selling like hotcakes on the dealership lots, especially with one particular trim level that seems to be getting all the buzz.

Last month, the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban RST trim level only stayed on dealership lots for an average of 18 days, which is considered pretty darn well in the U.S market, since the typical time period for a car’s stay would be around 60 days. Obviously, this demand is considered to be outrageously good…and now on a first-come-first-serve sort of basis. Regarding the RST model, this demand is even greater.

Chevrolet’s RST trim is comparable to that of their LT that it’s built upon, however, its design has a bit more edge and sports the Rally Street Truck (RST) title. The automaker responded to the popularity and overall demand from its customers for a more street-racer style by tacking on 22-inch High Gloss Black painted wheels as a standard, as well as a distinctive front fascia involving a black icy finish on the grille, black on black-chrome trim (for the exterior) and a range of RST-exclusive features in-house, with divergent stitching.

Both the Tahoe and Suburban were fully overhauled for this model year, and are currently in the initial stages of their 5th and twelve generation actions, in that order. The Suburban SUV sets the record for being the longest continually used nameplate, as it was first initiated in the market by 1935. The two trucks are essentially twins, with the exception that the Suburban is 15 inches longer than the Tahoe at 225.7 inches.

For both models, buyers have the choice of getting the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine from the EcoTec3 group, which has an incredible output of 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The second option is the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax, which produces a lesser 277 horsepower but an improved 460 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines team up with the brand’s Hydra-Matic 10L80 10-speed automatic transmission. One also has the option of rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD).

Both SUVs have accomplished strong sales and growth in North America, particularly in the fourth quarter of 2020 by over 30 percent. The transition to the new generation earlier that year, in addition to a market slump of many businesses due to the coronavirus pandemic, resulted in sales dropping considerably for a year, such as with the Tahoe at 88,238 and Suburban at 37,636, which will certainly see a resurgence in 2021.

The Chevrolet RST has a starting price of $58,395, (plus destination fee) for RWDs equipped with the 5.3L V8 engine. The mirroring Suburban RST has a starting price of 61,095, (plus destination fee).

The Corvette Stingray Is Fast On The Road And The Fastest In North American Sales

The Corvette Wins First Place In U.S. Sales

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, car sales, as well as a general slew of other businesses, saw a bit (or not so bitty) depression in traffic, and continued to see this slump for the remainder of the year (2020). Slowly but surely, the crisis began to somewhat stabilize, allowing for North American car sales to make a comeback. Some models, in particular, rode past the sales level a year ago. On top of this, car sales overall increased because of low-interest rates. This is thanks to the Federal Reserve, which allowed manufacturers to make offers on car loans more enticing.

Dependent on supply, these manufacturers ship these vehicles to their respective dealers and what the sellers estimate that they will be able to sell on certain models. On the end of the manufacturer, factory output can pose a challenge, while from the perspective of the dealer, it’s more of a guesstimate about what consumers in the market would go for.

Based on this dynamic, the amount of time that a car is lodged at a dealership parking lot can average about 48.9 days, with at least 60 being optimal. While there are plenty of cars that are able to catch the attention of shoppers faster than others, owing to either limitations from the factory or an overwhelming good customer demand at the dealership.

Last month, the most favored vehicle in North America was so in-demand that it became America’s fastest-selling car, and that ladies and gents is the Chevrolet Corvette. This flagship vehicle of the largest division of General Motors (GM), also being the sole two-seat sports car that hasn’t skipped a beat for over six decades (1953 to be exact). According to iSeeCars, the Chevrolet’s prized possession reaches up to 13.1 for days-on-sells.

The starting price for the Corvette is $59,000, (plus destination fee). This year’s model makes use of the “Stingray” moniker, which the company has gone back and forth with throughout the years. The convertible model of the car can reach as high as $90,000,  (plus destination fee). Moreover, the output is 495 horsepower from its 6.2-liter V8 engine, which can push from 0 to 60 mph in only 2.9 seconds.

Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst, weighed in on the fastest-selling cars as a whole, regarding those that don’t last long on the dealers lot: “While the fastest-selling new cars span many price points from $24,278 to $102,537, the average for these 20 vehicles is $43,829, which is well above the $36,836 average price of all new cars.”

2021 Chevy Equinox: All The Latest

General Motors (GM) initially planned on revamping their Chevy Equinox model for this year (2021). Unfortunately, the automaker faced obstacles related to the coronavirus pandemic, thus, these revisions were postponed until 2022.

Nevertheless, the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox will at least get some small but significant changes from the previous year, which encompasses the elimination of two equipment groups and one engine option.

Model Lineup

For LT models, the 2LT equipment group and for Premier models, the 3LZ equipment group have been scrapped. Their elimination is related to the ceasing of the turbocharged 2.0L LTG engine (we’ll discuss later).

Exterior

Externally, the 2021 Chevy Equinox will also get rid of two exterior color options, which are Chocolate Metallic and Cayenne Orange Metallic.

Interior

Inhouse, the Equinox SUV embraces the Leather Package into its color palette. Namely:

  • Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seating
  • Memory settings
  • Inside rearview auto-dimming mirror
  • Outside heated power-adjustable and auto-dimming mirrors

Mechanical

As previously mentioned, the 2LT and 3LZ equipment groups will be eliminated. In addition, the following mechanical components will also retire. Specifically:

  • Turbocharged 2.0L I-4 LTG engine
  • 9-speed automatic transmission
  • Trailering equipment
  • Factory-installed trailer hitch
  • Trailer hitch closeout cover
  • 4,850 lbs. GVWR
  • 3.17 axle ratio
  • 17-inch front and 16-inch rear 4-wheel antilock disc brakes
  • Dual-outlet stainless-steel exhaust
  • 17-inch steel spare wheel
  • 17-inch compact spare tire

Powertrain

As a result of the removal of the LTG engine, the 2021 Equinox SUV will now be offered solely with one engine choice, which is the turbocharged 1.5L LYX inline four-cylinder. This motor has an output of 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Remarkably, the engine is partnered with a 6-speed automatic transmission for each trim, and the car will continue to offer either a front-wheel or all-wheel-drive configuration.

Packages

The automaker’s Midnight Edition now involves the following features:

  • Jet Black premium cloth (substitutes Jet Black perforated leather-appointed seating)
  • Exclusive mold-in-color black grille and mesh with black surround
  • Dark finish fog lamp bezel surround
  • Front and rear Black bow ties
  • 19-inch Gloss Black aluminum wheels

2021 Chevrolet Equinox Factories

The construction of the 2021 Chevrolet Equinox is done at the following factories:

  • GM Ramos plant located in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico managed by GM Mexico
  • GM CAMI plant located in Ontario, Canada managed by GM Canada
  • GM-SAIC Wuhan II located in Hubei, China managed by Shanghai-GM
  • Deliveries of the latest Equinox started in Q3 2020, which is to say that the units were already on dealership lots.

Furthermore, Chevy’s SUV will get its comprehensive revamp for the 2022 model year. Following this, it is expected that the Equinox will stay in production until 2023-2024, which will mark the beginning of a new generation where the compact will be replaced with an all-new model.

Chevrolet Plans To Introduce Its First Electrified Blazer To China

The all-new Chevrolet Blazer has become a hot commodity, more specifically in places such as North America as well as China, where the SUV is being sold in a different variant of sorts than what we’re used to. The success, however, isn’t all that surprising, given the growing rise in popularity of SUVs and crossovers, and after the Blazer made its debut in August of 2020, in company with the larger 3-row Blazer, it was reported by GM Authority that General Motors is planning to launch a new mild hybrid system for its Blazer model in the Chinese market.

According to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, SAIC-GM (Shanghai General Motors Company), the company’s main joint venture in that region, a new 48-vol mild-hybrid powertrain will soon launch for the Chevrolet Blazer. The master plan is to make progress on the fuel economy and driving performance of the midsize crossover, which would also help to toe in line with the nation’s rigorous environmental regulations.

This electrified move is a significant achievement for the Blazer, as it is receiving its new motor for the first time internationally. As of yet, the SUV was sold with just its gasoline internal combustion engines in both the States and China, encompassing six- and  4-cylinder options. As a result, the Blazer will join the club of other GM models that recently employed a hybrid powertrain in the Asian market.

In the same way as the 2021 Cadillac XT5 and XT6 recently released overseas, the latest hybrid Blazer in the Chinese market will be equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I-4 engine as well as an electric motor and a 48 V battery. Even though this revelation doesn’t exactly disclose the output of the Blazer’s system, it’s highly plausible that it will harness the 250 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, just like the Cadillacs that the Blazer shares its C1 platform on, in addition to their mechanics.

From an aesthetic point of view, the Chevy Blazer mild-hybrid should resemble the current models. For the time being, it’s undetermined if buyers of the upcoming electric motor will be given the option of two- and three-row configurations, rather than just the seven-seat model.

It is expected that the upcoming electric Blazer will be revealed in China in the weeks following. It’s also expected that during this short wait, more information will be revealed until the official launch, which is set for the second quarter of 2021. In the same manner as the Blazer constructed at the SAIC-GM Cadillac Jinqiao plant, there aren’t any plans to bring about the electric motor in the North American model. On the other hand, automakers have a tendency to make initial plans for international in regards to their hybrids and fully electric vehicles before finally bringing it to our side of the waters.

While we wait for our turn to enjoy the Blazer’s new hybrid motor, we can still enjoy all that it has to offer at Miami Lakes Automall. We carry a wide range of Chevrolet vehicles, including that of the 2021 Chevrolet Blazer.

The Hybrid Corvette C8 Is Rumored To Be Named The E-Ray

Just when you thought the legendary Chevrolet C8 Corvette couldn’t wow us any more than it already has, the company surprises us with a hybrid variant.

The American automaker proves itself to be a powerhouse once again, as they plan on putting to use the name “E-Ray”, as claimed in a report from the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The parent company, General Motors (GM) already trademarked this name about six years ago, so perhaps this new electric venture has been in the works for quite some time. Reports also say that not only will the name be used for the first hybrid Corvette model, but the sports car could make its grand entrance into the 2023 lineup.

According to the website, The Trade Group, the E-Ray will make its appearance in two model years, in the same place where the spot was initially saved for the Grand Sport trim package in previous generations of the Vette’. The new hybrid will be energized by the 6.2-liter LT2 V8, the same engine that was on the base Stingray model, also encompassing two electric motors, which will both be fixed on the front axle. The new engine will certainly be more impressive than the regular gasoline-powered motor, but it will provide that final wow factor due to its significant upsurge in power from 490 horses and 465 ft-lbs of torque to a facelifting 600 horses and 500 ft-lbs of torque.

The report from SAE’s also brings attention to the fact the center tunnel on the mixed-material chassis seems to have an extensive amount of space for one of the automaker’s Ultium battery packs, while the front of the Corvette has space for two electric motors. The suggestion is that there will be two potential disadvantages to the hybrid powertrain with one being the adding of weight and the other the loss of cargo space in the front truck. Nevertheless, it is estimated that the variant will have a starting pricing for around $100,000, (plus destination fee).

Only loyal Chevrolet fans would know that this isn’t exactly the first time we’ve heard rumors of an eco-friendly Corvette, however, it’s important to note that the company hasn’t exactly confirmed…or denied that they are going through with the moniker. A representative from the automaker told Robb Report said, “We’re not going to engage in rumor and speculation.”

Despite GM playing coy, there has been more fuel added to the fire of the E-Ray rumors less than a month after the company announced their plans for electrifying their Corvette. Toward the end of January, the automaker revealed its plan to begin switching out internal combustion engines and its effort to eventually only sell battery-operated vehicles by the year 2035. Theoretically, the E-Ray still has an internal combustion engine, but it is a very important step on the journey to transition to an all-electric C8.

Super Cruisin’ With The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV

The Chevrolet Bolt is a beloved electric hatchback, favored for its miniature body and eco-friendly abilities. When it was first introduced into the market, it received a list of automotive awards and accolades, so it was no surprise with its success that it would eventually bring on an SUV variant. The cleverly named Bolt EUV (electric utility vehicle) enhances the Bolt hatchback’s abilities of practicality and usefulness, and with the growing popularity of large compacts, it’s certainly something we can see today’s consumers getting excited about.

For the sake of clarity, it’s important to note that the EUV won’t be drastically different from the regular Bolt. In fact, both models are featured on GM’s BEV2 platform (for small electric vehicles). Simply put, the EUV may be considered a bit too small and restricted to even be considered an official compact crossover.

The styling is a mix between the Bolt and Chevrolet’s larger Blazer, as well as a bit of its Trailblazer. What truly gives it some distinction is the availability hands-free Super Cruise driver-assistance package. Besides being gifted to a few Launch Edition models, this feature is exclusive to the EUV high-tier Premier trim as an option and also involves three years with OnStar service.

As far as the drive goes, the highway drive with the Super Cruise system was relatively impressive, as the car stayed put in its lane and covered lots of road without the need of human interaction. Technologies like a camera focused on the driver and infrared sensors help keep you focused on what’s ahead because if you find yourself in La La Land, it’s a sure thing that the system will start to beep.

It’s been estimated that the EUV should be able to zoom at 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds, but it is certain that the engine’s low-end pull is quite stone, as it easily gets the motor going away from stoplights and zoom past all of the grannies on the highway. The regenerative braking system is also a plus, as this recaptures the energy that the car gained through momentum, and saves it for future use. The braking system ultimately saves money and reduces overall brake usage.

As far as interior technologies are concerned there is a new 8.0-inch infotainment display located in the gauge cluster and a central 10.2-inch touchscreen, which are both easy to use. The car comes with standard wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a charging pad. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, as well as heated rear seats. Safety features include forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning, while rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view camera system, and adaptive cruise control can serve as an option.

Distance-wise, GM has estimated that its SUV variant ranges at 250 miles, while is a setback of 9 miles from its hatchback. When plugged into a 240-volt outlet, the battery should take about seven hours to fully recharge the EUV. Either you choose the Bolt or EUV, you’ll get standard DC fast-charging capability, with the 55-kW maximum charge rate able to “refuel” the EUV with up to 95 miles of range in 30 minutes.

One of the final enticements the automaker seems to offer for the EUV, its affordable price. The base price of the larger vehicle is $33,995, (plus destination fee), which is lower than the starting price of the 2020 Bolt at $37,495, (plus destination fee).

Chevrolet Designers Show Off Their Unofficial Split-Window Design For The Corvette C8

Chevrolet Designers Seem Split On Their Unofficial Window Design

Chevrolet’s Corvette sports car had quite an incredible career in the automotive market spanning more than 60 years. Since its debut, it’s been considered one of the preferred cars by adrenaline enthusiasts, more particularly with the automaker’s Corvette Sting Ray, which was famous for its 1963 split-window. Designers of General Motors (GM) were close to bringing back this classic style element onto the mid-engine C8 Corvette but pulled back from the idea. However, it appears that the creators have had a change of heart, more particularly Rain Prisk, by attempting to tack on a split-window design to the mid-engine Corvette.

This restyling includes modifying the C8’s engine hatch, or rather completely getting rid of it. Alternatively, the roofline is now extended right to the rear end, highlighting the coupe-like style. It makes the Corvette look a bit more curvaceous, even comparable to a Bugatti from the rear-three-quarter angle. The longer roof also alters the car’s B-pillar layout, substituting the small piece of triangular trim with a couple of intake embellishments. The stretched roof is highlighted with a glossed spine curving from the roof to the letter “Corvette” at the rear, separating the rear window and reinstating an icon.

The C8’s rear is a bit more refined in the rendering as opposed to the production car Chevrolet on the market, however, it misses out on the high-mount brake light midway. On the other hand, that could be added somewhere else. When GM was constructing the new C8, it made attempts to include the split-window design. Still, according to Chevrolet Performance Exterior Design Director, Tom Peters, these efforts “came across as focused”. The company’s artists couldn’t figure out how to get the split-window design to flow well with the rest of the car’s sharp-edged set-up.

On the flip side, it might be for the best that the automaker left the split-window in its original placement. The 1963 Corvette is considered a classic because of its differentiating feature. The company did away with the split-window design the following year after receiving much flack about the visibility of the rear, unintentionally creating an icon of sorts. The Corvette’s mid-engine design helps in neutralizing some of those concerns since rearward visibility was never on par to start with. At the current moment, it still appears that the split-window wouldn’t mesh well with the C8, but who knows if things will change for the Corvette C9.

Miami Lakes Chevrolet

Split-window or not, the Chevrolet Corvette is a dynamic vehicle that rocks an incredible design and provides a ride that only one can dream of…or simply make a purchase at our dealership, Miami Lakes Chevrolet. We have a wide selection of Chevrolet models like the Corvette, at a variety of different styles and prices.
