GM Has Filed for ‘Bolt EUV’ Trademark Which Hints at a New Electric Car

On October 2, 2017, GM outlined it’s “All-Electric Path to Zero Emissions” while also announcing a new electric offensive with 20 new all-electric vehicles which are set to launch in 2023. They also promised to launch two new electric cars in the next 18 months based on the Bolt EV. “In the next 18 months, GM will introduce two new all-electric vehicles based off learnings from the Chevrolet Bolt EV,” said Motortrend.com    

It has been over 18 months, and there have been no signs of those new electric vehicles. However, GM has said they have released those two vehicles already: the Buick Velite 6 EV and Baojun E200, the two China-only vehicles produced by joint-venture partnerships in China. Just a few days later another report from GM came out filing a new trademark for a vehicle called ‘Bolt EUV.’   

ELECTREK’S TAKE:

Motortrend.com can’t comprehend how GM would consider the Buick Velite 6 EV and Baojun E200 as the newest two Bolt EV-based electric vehicles that were supposed to launch. If GM used those vehicles to make it look like they respected their timeline and launched an actual new Bolt EV-based electric car as they initially intended, it would be funny to see how they pull it off. Either way, the writers at Motortrend are happy to see some evidence that GM is still working on the vehicles.

As for the name, it’s anyone’s guess what it can stand for, but the rumor buzzing the web is that it can stand for ‘Electric Utility Vehicle.’ What it can look like it’s also anyone’s guess. Something a little bigger than a Chevy Bolt EV, in the shape of an SUV or crossover than the Bolt EV, which looks like a compact car in some angles.

General Motor plans to launch at least 20 new electric vehicles by 2023. They have seriously been considering naming the new vehicle Bolt EUV. GM Authority reports that they have filed a trademark application for “Bolt EUV” on April 9th.

The trademark filing has confirmed the name will be used for “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles.” No one is sure, but it stands to reason that EUV is short for “Electric Utility Vehicle.” Nothing has been confirmed except for new vehicle Bolt.

It has also come to light that GM has invested $300 million in the Orion assembly plant in Michigan to build the newest Chevy electric vehicle that will share the same platform as the Bolt. The automaker hasn’t specified the name or body style of the new vehicle. There has been no discussion on the original timeline of this new model.

The Orion plant produces the Bolt, as well as Cruise autonomous test vehicles. The model for the Bolt EUV is a mystery, but it is being planned for the Orion plant. What hasn’t been discussed is the new electric vehicles, including the Buick Velite 6 EV for China.

GM wants to introduce a new EV platform that will support various body styles and front-, rear, and all-wheel-drive configurations. The first to receive this modern flexible architecture is said to be a Cadillac. But CEO Marry Barra estimates EVs won’t be profitable for the company until “early next decade” or later.

GM has admitted (although there is no record of it) that is selling the Chevrolet Bolt at a loss, explaining why the company has been reluctant to ramp up production volume. Chevrolet analysts and Barry, have estimated that GM won’t begin to make a profit from its fully electric vehicles until next year. “We’ve talked about the fact that with our next generation of development, we want to make sure we have obtainable, profitable, desirable, and with the appropriate range,” she added.

GM has teased its next-gen BEV3 platform design via an undisclosed Cadillac concept. The luxury EV is said to begin production by 2021, giving the struggling luxury marque a second chance at electrification after the ELR was rapidly pulled from the market. It was only enticing a few customers to purchase a Volt-based hybrid with a Tesla Model S-level price tag.

General Motors (GM) has revamped one of their powertrains and removing an engine option for the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. GM announced they have moved on from the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found as an option in the Chevrolet Traverse, leaving the 3.6-Liter V6 engine as the only powertrain currently available for the midsize SUV. The four-cylinder engine is still available in the latest Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac ATS, but in the Chevrolet Traverse, it surprisingly didn’t provide anything to truly separate its self from the more powerful V6. More On the Upcoming Powertrain

This move will change once General Motors finalizes their upcoming engine, expected to be a 2.0-Liter inline-four with a twin-scroll turbocharger. The new powertrain will be an upgrade over the previous turbocharged engine, adding better fuel economy ratings. In a current climate where buyers are more wary of a vehicle’s gas mileage than ever before, it’s the right call by GM to make sure they provide an improvement in such a critical area. The upcoming twin-scroll turbocharger is expected to hit 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The report by GM Authority says the reason they opted to remove the second engine, which was only available for front-wheel-drive RT trim, is because both engines were close enough in output and efficiency and the smaller engine wasn’t needed.

First available for the front-wheel-drive RS version of the second-generation 2018 Chevy Traverse, the departed powertrain was not the main focus of the Traverse. The latest Chevrolet Traverse is an upgrade over the prior year. This is thanks to more cargo room added, losing 350 pounds and looking sharper both inside and out. The available 10-speaker Bose sound system raises the infotainment technology value. The Chevrolet Blazer Is Back With a Sporty Design

The history of SUVs has come a long way. Chevrolet is bringing back the Blazer as a midsize SUV crossover. Instead of merely adding on a badge on any old SUV, Chevrolet created a completely new Blazer with a style and feature suited for today’s drivers.

The Blazer is a nice middle-ground between the smaller Equinox and the larger Traverse. It shares a platform with the Cadillac XT5 and the GMC Acadia. The new Blazer has interior inspiration from the new Camaro.

Standard on the entry-level Blazer 2.5L Cloth (the actual trim name) is 18-inch aluminum wheels, lower body-side molding, Body-color door handles, heated exterior mirrors, high-intensity-discharge headlights, LED taillights, and active aero shutters that open and close at different speeds to assist aerodynamics or engine cooling.

The Blazer uses a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 193 horsepower and has 188 lb-ft of torque. It shares a nine-speed automatic transmission with the more powerful V-6, the four-banger pairs exclusively with front-wheel drive. It tows up to 1500 pounds, but the V-6 with all-wheel drive handles up to 4500.

In caranddrivers.com instrumented track testing, the four-cylinder Blazer went from zero to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds. It closes the gap between 50 and 70 mph in 5.8 seconds. The V-6 AWD version is a considerable 1.9 and 1.3 seconds quicker.

The EPA estimates the four-cylinder Blazer earns 22 mpg city and 27 highway. Chevy’s powertrain uses stop-start technology to improve fuel efficiency, but the system cannot be deactivated. The four-cylinder Blazer returns 26 mpg on the 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route.

With accurate steering and steady composure, the Blazer is the best-driving crossover to wear the Chevrolet bow tie. Even the four-cylinder version is more engaging than many competitors. Its 18-inch wheels provided a smoother and quieter ride than the RS model, which wears 21-inch wheels.    

A LOT OF TECHNOLOGY:

The 2019 Blazer RS AWD has a lot of technology. There are different on every trim level. Not all features are available in every trim level.

The screen in the center is an 8-inch touch display that controls the Blazer’s climate system (although there are separate climate control buttons under the screen) and the entertainment system. There’s also an audio system which has an AM/FM/SiriusXM along with Bluetooth, which allows you to pair your phone to make phone calls and play music. Connecting an iPod or non-Bluetooth device is a 3.5mm aux-in port.  

The entertainment system has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. To enable the CarPlay, you’ll need to connect it with the USB cable. The Blazer has three sets of USB inputs that include a standard USB-A port and the USB-C port, which is new.

There are USB ports on the dashboard below the screen, inside the console storage compartment and there’s even one on the back of the console so that passengers in the back can use it. Inside the console, you’ll find the aux-in port. The entertainment system also has apps which include iHeartRadio and many others you can stream from in the car.  

The Blazer is equipped with 4G-LTE, which provides internet access for passengers to get online but it comes at an extra cost. At the bottom of the center controls, it features a storage cubby that can hide the wireless charger that’s big enough for an iPhone XS Max. Included is also a 120-volt AC outlet for plugging in things that require electricity.

The Blazer has cameras on all sides of the vehicles, and it can stitch those images together to show pretty crazy angles. Passengers can control the camera views through the main screen, changing the view as needed and all the angles are helpful, which helps when trying to center yourself in a parking space. The rearview mirror also has an embedded screen to show the view out of the rear camera.

SAFETY FEATURES:

The Blazer has forward-collision alert and forward-automatic braking. The Rally Sport comes with an all-wheel drive, and a dial on the console lets the driver choose from driving modes including two-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, sport mode, off-road mode, and tow/haul mode. The Blazer technology keeps the driver engage enough without being a distraction.

The car has a fit and finish of a luxury vehicle. Driving the Blazer is a comfortable ride. The cargo area is significant, and the split back seats fold down with the pull of a lever on each side.  

The automatic tailgate raises and lowers quickly and quietly. Chevrolet has a rail system in the cargo area with a flexible cargo partition which can be adjusted from the front to back to keep boxes or golf clubs from sliding around. Overall, the Blazer is an excellent addition to the Chevrolet SUV family, especially if looking for a sportier design.

Chevrolet has recently shown off their all-new, next-generation “C8” Chevrolet Corvette. With a single photo posted amongst the various Chevy social media outlets, what appears to be a base model Stingray C8 has captured widespread attention as the vehicle is hidden underneath protective covering with “07.18.19” plastered on the side of the vehicle. Rumors have been swirling for many years about Chevrolet having a mid-engine supercar and General Motors has now confirmed this news. The former “Automobile of the Year” winner by Automobile Magazine and named to back to back Car and Driver “10Best list” in 2018 and 2019, Chevrolet looks to blow away the competition as it has since inception back in 1953 when the Corvette debuted.

Speculation Grows For Chevrolet Corvette C8

Many have wondered what powertrains the all-new C8 will provide. Car and Driver have shared the news that Chevrolet will probably be revamping the 6.2-Liter V8 engine, which should provide about 500 horsepower. It will be named the LT2 to denote the position of the engine. Not a whole lot of information has been revealed, as the vehicle has literally been kept under wraps. Chevrolet has plans to begin production between September and December 2019. Will the Corvette C8 have a twin-turbo after all? Early reports have also listed over 1,000 horsepower for the highest-trim.

Chevrolet Has Plans To Give Back With Final C7 Corvette Sale

The previous-generation C7 ran from 2014-2019 and is winding down sales. Chevy has committed to auction the last-ever built Chevrolet Corvette C7, an all-black z06, for charity at the Barrett-Jackson-Northeast Sale in Connecticut on June 28, 2019. Proceeds will go to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, providing some funds to injured service members as well as help pay off mortgages for families of first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

“The sale of this iconic Corvette will help the foundation continue its good work, and pave the way for the Next Generation Corvette that we will introduce on July 18,” General Motors CEO Mary Barra

Final Official Word on the C8

When pressed for details about the upcoming next-generation C8, Chevrolet, unfortunately, had no words to express about the upcoming supercar. We will just have to wait for the date, July 18th, brightly posted in red on the hidden C8 model. Though they didn’t say much, the debut is right around the corner this summer. Pricing has been speculated at around $63,000 for the base Stingray Corvette.

“Thanks for reaching out. We’re not providing details on production timing at this point.” company spokesperson Kevin M. Kelly said. Auctioning the last one in June suggests that C7 assembly is ending sooner, though.

The History of the Chevrolet Badge

Trucks are known for their legacies. They are known for being a reliable and practical tool of hardworking men and women and are often handed down from generation to generation. One of the things that most likely sticks out from a Chevy truck is the Chevy graphics.

CHEVROLET HISTORY:

Chevy has been around for the past 100 years. The legend began in 1918 with the ‘1918 One-Ton which is said to be the first purpose-built Chevrolet truck, according to chevytrucklegends.com. By 1929, wooden wheels were no longer, and all of Chevrolet vehicles started featuring “new steel disc wheels.”   

Of course, by 1938, the Chevrolet Half-Ton, with its swept fenders and new front bumper, showed early signs of the newly formed design team’s influence on Chevy Trucks. Fast-forward about 10 years later, and the first three-seater is introduced in the Chevrolet 3100 series. As the years progressed, so did the trucks MSRPs.

Back in the 1970s, the graphics were necessary for the distinction between trucks but not every truck had them. In the ‘80s, Chevy graphics gained large popularity making them more consistent in their trucks. The decals adorning truck beds have progressed over the years. They went from having a “plain bodyside stripe to funkier abstract shapes in period-correct-colors,” according to New Roads magazine.

The 1980s:

If there’s anything that you remember from the 80s (whether born in that era or you’re a die-hard fan of 80s music and movie like Pretty in Pink) is the vibrant colors that dominated the period. Trucks didn’t get left behind. The graphic designs had everything from neon lights, vibrant colors and they were the jagged type styles.

At the start of the 1980s, Chevy truck graphics were “starkly simple, with ‘70s carryover style: a broad bodyside stripe bordered by chrome trim, creating  a two-tone look.” The color combo of the 80s were cream stripes on a brown body. But in the late ‘80s, Chevy’s full-size trucks left behind the 70s body style and introduced Z71 as a trim level.

Z71 configurations and 4×4 truck graphics, for this era, used bold, simple lettering to convey their capability and strength. Today, a Z71 logo on a Chevy truck instantly announces its off-road capability. The Z71 package offers rugged features, an upgraded suspension, and more.   

The 1990s:

There are times when you get a design that works as was the case for the 1990s design. It took the same lean and slightly rounded corners of designs established in the late ‘80s. It can be seen on special editions, like 1990-1993 454 SS pickup, which featured “red logos on the sides of the bed, plus red outlines around the 1500 emblems on the door trim and around the bowtie on the front grille,” according to New Roads magazine.

The 90s were known for grunge music with relevant distressed-looking text, but the design for the trucks was different as they reflected their straightforward capability. One familiar truck emblem took on a new meaning. The Silverado badge became the official moniker of Chevy full-size trucks in 1999.  

The 2000s:

With digital design came the expectation that the design had to look good not only in print but on screens of all sizes, especially with the rise of smartphones around the corner. Chevy needed to stand out even more, and this was the case with the ZR2 off-road package. Available for the S-10 and Blazer, which sported large semi-dry-paintbrush-looking logos in front of the taillights to show that it was ready to get dirty on the road.

Then there was the sporty S-10 Xtreme. It showcased a lower stance and door emblems that boasted an exaggerated X. Small screens started to dominate drivers fields of vision, and even though trucks had large bedside panels for displaying graphics, the decals embellishing them reflected the trends of the time, with bold outlines and sharper corners.

Chevrolet has decided to replace its top-tier LTZ trim level with the new named Premier trim. The change first happened on the 2016 Chevy Malibu, and then spread across most of the Chevy lineup, except for the Camaro, Corvette, Chevy trucks and several low-end models like the Spark. When the Premier debuted it featured a two-tone, silver-black badge, which has replaced a new version on 2019 Chevrolet models.

So, who is the largest group of buyers in today’s economy? According to a recent study, Millennials are the ones making those finance choices. The new largest generation in the United States is playing a part in this massive change. Autolist, a company whose goals are to assist customers in finding and selling their vehicles, showcases how Millennials choose Chevrolet over other U.S. automotive brands. Remember, the age group for Millennials has been roughly classified as people born in 1981 through 1996. This means all Millennials are between the ages of 23 and 38 today. Autolist collected the data of 1,750 new car shoppers under the age of 36 as a basis for their claim. Which brand came out on top? None other than Chevrolet.

Chevrolet Stands Above the Competition

Auotlist came up with three questions to find out which brand millennials prefer. Among the 1,750 who gave their answers, Chevrolet, above all other brands, was what they chose. The first questions being, “What brand would you be most inclined to consider taking while shopping for a new car first?”.  The next questions had those polled giving a take on their age demographic, “Which brand would your age group most likely choose between Toyota, Ford, Honda, Dodge, Chevrolet, and Ram?”. The answer wound up being Chevrolet. The third and final question was “What brand do you currently drive?” and among millennials who answered, Chevrolet was their answer. So, we discovered Chevrolet is the brand these customers consider represents their age group as Chevrolet is their current brand and they would select it again in the future.

Chevrolet won over Millennials and their business by being ahead of the curve on these issues. According to Autolist’s top analyst, Chase Disher, the latest Chevrolet promotion was effective at making the point across that their brand is successful. “Chevy is doing a great job of trading on its reputation as a no-nonsense, affordable brand while at the same time adding to its vehicles the stuff younger buyers covet. Chevrolet Stacks A Silverado and Traverse On A Baseball Stadium

General Motors’ home base is in Detroit and there’s plenty of hometown pride to be spread. The Detroit Tigers, with the help of Chevrolet, have announced the official start of the 2019 baseball season with the installation of a Chevrolet Traverse SUV and a Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss atop the center field at Comerica Park. It’s a 10-year tradition officially named “Chevy Fountain,” that has GM vehicles parked explicitly in this location.

These two vehicles are replacing the 2018 Traverse High Country and Colorado ZR2 pickup that called the outfield fountain home for Detroit’s 81 home games last season. But it’s different every season.

A crane was able to lift the combined weight of both vehicles, which was over 8,400 pounds of sheet metal over the center field so that everyone in attendance can easily see two of the automaker’s newest vehicles. There was a last minute change in having to swap vehicles, but everything went well. After all, it’s all about baseball, hot dogs, home runs and Chevrolet.  

The decade-old tradition allows the residents of Detroit to celebrate Chevy’s connection to baseball; it’s also a sign that Opening Day is almost upon them. So what do the new vehicles represent? The all-new Silverado and Blazer represent personality, innovation, and endurance.

PERFORMANCE:

The Equinox features a 170-horsepower, turbocharged four-cylinder base engine. The other two available engines are a 252-horsepower turbo-four and a 137-horsepower turbodiesel. The base engine is certainly adequate for day-to-day errands but the 252 hp feels noticeably more energetic or if some towing power is required.    

There are five options to choose from on the Silverado powertrain: there is the 285-horsepower V6 base engine, a 310-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder, 355-horsepower, and 420-horsepower V8s, and a 3.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder.

Detroit has been in the middle of a significant comeback. Not too long ago, the downtown area had too many abandoned and old warehouses and a rundown look and feel. It wasn’t something nice to look at, but today, things are looking very different.

Those old warehouses are now home to hip loft apartments, art galleries, and restaurants. Detroit and Chevrolet go back over a century. The Detroit Tigers have been playing in Comerica Park since 2000.  

Back in 2011, Chevrolet financed the refurbishment of a baseball complex in Detroit. Chevrolet helped fix-up part of the Jayne Field youth baseball complex, an 11-field park near “the corner” of Conant and East Davison streets. The Chevrolet Advertising Promotion Director, Kevin Mayer, said they were delighted to have the opportunity to do the same work right there in their hometown of Detroit.

However, this opportunity wasn’t Chevy’s first preference. The city rejected an offer by the GM brand to fix the baseball diamond at the former Tiger Stadium site for use by youth ballplayers. The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) rejected the proposal from Chevy to have volunteers maintain the historical field because the city wanted a significant redevelopment project there instead.  

In a letter to the organizers, the organization explained why they rejected a $65.3 million redevelopment mixed-use proposal for the 9.4-acre site, stating the significant concerns about the overall financial feasibility. Chevrolet supports the City of Detroit and Detroit Economic Growth Corporation 100 percent. They were behind their revitalization efforts of the former Tiger Stadium location.  

They were already rebuilding another facility for youth baseball in Detroit. Tiger Stadium was the home of the Detroit Tigers until the team moved to Comerica Park in April 2000. The city completed demolition on the Tiger Stadium in 2009 and 2011 rejected a promising conservancy-backed proposal for “The Corner Development.”

The DEGC called the redevelopment a “better alternative to creating a youth baseball field at the site of the former Tiger Stadium.” Think Detroit PAL, a non-profit organization for children athletes in Detroit, operates the most extensive youth baseball program in the city. In 2010, 1,400 young people played on almost 100 teams in PAL baseball leagues, according to organization’s interim CEO, Tim Richey.
