Today’s vehicles on the roads are built to keep drivers safe like never before. Because drivers have become more distracted than ever, new technologies have been created to keep drivers focused on the road. Ironically, it’s because of modern technology (i.e. smartphones), that we have the problem in the first place. Brands like Chevy have an answer to help curb the risk that comes with looking at a small handheld screen. Certain new vehicles now come with a Heads-Up Display that fuses the information drivers want by incorporating a feed directly on the windshield low in the drivers field of vision.
Head-Up Displays are often known as HUDs and have been around for many years now. So what exactly is a HUD? It’s a small digital transparent projection that can include information like the vehicle speed, the time, how many miles away to a destination and show incoming calls or smartphone notifications. Helping drivers by giving them an easier way to travel and answer calls, navigate and most importantly the main goal is ensuring driver’s eyes stay where they belong – the road ahead.
This will allow the driver to focus on the path they’re on, and the controls to the Head-Up Display are on the dash to the left or right of the steering wheel, depending on the vehicle. This makes driving easier with simple controls to place the information needed right on the windshield at an adjustable height and brightness. Drivers are in control to access the menu and set their own preferences. Chevy recommends to keep the Heads-Up Display as low as possible and to set the brightness level as low as possible, too. The brightness level will change automatically depending on the light outside, but this feature can be manually adjusted.
HUD Technology In Depth
What makes HUD technology cool, but also highly useful is how data is pulled in realtime from the vehicle, including what’s going on in the engine. Having a factory installed HUD is worth the extra cost and is way better than using a third party HUD. Third party HUDs require a smartphone to use and setting one up can take time away from driving where you need to go and uses the battery life of your smartphone. To have a seamless experience using a HUD device, we recommend adding the Chevrolet HUD, that doesn’t need a charge and doesn’t move or get displaced because the HUD will never leave the vehicle. As the popularity of augmented reality grows, so will the use of technology like what Heads-Up Displays provide. HUDs are safe and a great idea to have as a part of each drive.
Heads-Up Display In Chevy
The new 2018 Chevrolet Camaro, like many modern Chevy vehicles, have a HUD option that includes multiple displays for drivers to select from. From basic information, like the speed the vehicle is traveling at, to a step further, like adding the speed limit next to the current speed the vehicle is traveling. Drivers will never have to worry about speeding ever again, which is perfect for a Camaro driver!
There are three button options on the left side of the steering wheel. Options are easy to change by hitting the “INFO” button, which will allow drivers to change what is displayed on their windshield. From RPMs to the music that is being played to directional info, showcasing which direction the vehicle is driving, there’s lots to choose from. The HUD button allows drivers to move the display up or down on the vehicle and the brightness can be controlled manually or automatically. Simply press the brightness button up or down to lower or raise the brightness level.
