The 2018 Equinox safety features not only enhance the driver’s awareness while on the road, but they also offer camera-based technologies that can assist the driver to react faster and avoid potential threats. New for the 2018 model year is Surround Vision, a technology that delivers an accurate view of the Equinoxes perimeter. Available on select trims, Surround Vision provides a 360-degree view of the vehicle and gives drivers a more confident approach while parking and backing up. Another advanced safety feature includes StabiliTrak electronic stability control system which helps enhance control especially during emergency maneuvers while adjusting the brakes and engine torque to keep drivers on their intended path.
LISTEN UP, PARENTS! This one’s for you – Chevy’s Teen Driver program. The Teen Driver programs is a configurable feature that allows parents to customize their teen’s vehicle settings through with a special key fob, and it also provides parents with an in-vehicle report about their teen’s driving habits.
On top of other safety features, the 2018 Chevy Equinox also includes Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert with following distance indicator, Low-speed Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
Performance
The Equinox engine is packed with a decent amount of power under the hood. The Equinox L is equipped with a 1.5L Turbo engine that delivers 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque that’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This standard engine is also available in 2.0L turbo and 1.6L turbo-diesel with a new 9-speed automatic transmission partnered with the 2.0L turbo. For buyers on the hunt for a bit more turbo power, the Equinox Premier comes standard with a 1.6L turbo diesel engine that delivers 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque that’s paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive is also a standard feature with available all-wheel drive as well. Additionally, the AWD system is switchable and enhances the vehicle’s fuel efficiency by disconnecting from the rear axle when it’s not in use or needed.
