General Motors (GM) has some big news and we are super excited. GM is the first U.S manufacturer with a facility to mass produce self-driving cars and their first batch of mass produced cars was 130 Chevy Bolt EVs. The Chevy Bolt is already the longest range electric vehicle and now it is making even more strides.
This is what we know:
- In 2016, GM invested a whopping $500 million in the ridesharing company, Lyft, and this is around the same time GM started talking about their interest in self-driving vehicles. Lyft is planning on having a self-driving driver service by 2021.
- By 2018, GM plans to have “thousands” of self-driving vehicles roaming the road. Currently there are 50 Chevy Bolt EVs driving in three U.S. cities.
