Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD vs Ram 2500 vs Ford F-250

Three of the most debated truck brands are Chevy, Ford, and Ram. This post will discuss the 2500 category (Chevy Silverado 2500, Ford F-250, and Ram 2500), and compare each truck by several categories. The categories include: size, towing capacity, horsepower, engine, and price. Usually safety would be a category, however each one of these trucks have a great 4 star safety rating. Keep in mind, these comparisons are talking about the base model trucks, each one has different trims with more features and options.

Size is an important category to explore when talking about trucks. The F-250 is the biggest of these trucks, it is 232-266″ long, 80″ wide, and 78-82″ tall. The second biggest truck in the 2500 category is the Ram. The Ram is 230-259″ long, 79-80″ wide, and 76-81″ tall. Finally, the Silverado 2500 is 224-258″ long, 80-81″ wide, and 78″ tall.

Towing Capacity

One of the most important features to truck owners is the towing capacity. Here is the order from the highest towing capacity to the lowest towing capacity: F-250, Silverado 2500, and Ram 2500. The F-250 can tow up to 16,800 pounds, the Silverado 2500 can tow up to 14,500, and the Ram 2500 can tow at maximum 11,890 pounds.

Horsepower and Engine

Who doesn’t love some speed? Each one of these trucks come with multiple engine options, and have different levels of horsepower.

Silverado 2500 - The Silverado can come with a 6.0 L V8 engine or a 6.6 L V8 engine. The highest horsepower achieved in this truck is 360.

Ford F-250 - The F-250 comes in either a 6.2 L V8 engine or a 6.6 L V8 Diesel engine. Horsepower in this truck can reach 385.

Ram 2500 - The engines available in the 2500 include: a 6.7 L 6 Cylinder Diesel engine, a 5.7 L V8 engine, or a 6.4 L V8 Power Wagon engine. Horsepower in this truck is 383.

Ram may be the truck for you if you want something fast, and available in diesel or Power Wagon. Tow a lot, while maintaining a decent speed.

Ah, the price category, very important! All three of these trucks are relatively close in price. The Silverado is the most expensive starting at $42,075, the F-250 is right in the middle, starting at $40,780, and the Ram will burn a slightly smaller hole in your pocket, starting at $39,975.

Based on this report, it would appear as if the F-150 takes almost every category home, however the Ram is a less expensive option, which has many important features the Ford lacks. Including: power wagon and size. The horsepower is just slightly less than the Ford, therefore for a less expensive price the Ram is the way to go.

Depending on what you are looking for in a truck, each of these trucks have different benefits to offer you. Hopefully this post was able to clear up the major differences between these 2500 trucks for you.
