The first Kia Niro crossover started a movement for Kia Corp. Soon, the automaker started electrifying everything, and the Niro spawned the Niro PHEV and Niro EV quickly. Since their release, each model has returned for the next model year. According to the Kia Corp PR, 2023 is streamlining the features of the Niro, where the only changes seems to be the powertrain between models. Check out what’s new for the 2023 Kia Niro PHEV.

Plug-in Hybrid

For 2022, the lineup was the LXS, EX, and EX Premium trims. The same should be expected for the next model year. The 2023 Kia Niro PHEV – also known as the plug-in hybrid model – is powered by a 1.6-liter engine and a 62kW electric motor. Together, the output is 180 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. With fast-charging capabilities, the 2023 Niro PHEV can refill its 11.1-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery in under three hours with a Level 2 charger.

Engineering

Each trim comes with a dual-clutch six-speed transmission. The new model has an upgraded all-electric range of 33 miles when equipped with 16-inch wheels. This may or may not change the last reported EPA MPGe of 105, MPVG of 46. There may be a slight increase to the overall total driving range of 560 miles.

Interior Features
