Mitsubishi Motors has shifted a strong focus towards electric vehicle (EV) development and plug-in hybrid technology. It took some time to bring the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid to the states, but it became ever popular over the years. A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), this SUV became quickly known as the Outlander PHEV.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has only three trims for the new model year – SEL, LE, and GT. Each trim is powered by an AC synchronous permanent magnetic motor with a 60kW motor in the front and a 70kW motor in the rear, and a 2.4 liter inline-four-cylinder engine able to generate 126 horsepower. Together, it’s about 300 horsepower, give or take. Converting kW to HP can be tricky. The same can be said for the collective torque, around 390 lb-ft.
Able to use a 120V or 240V, the charging time for the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander can take all day or half an hour with CHAdeMO DC Fastcharge. If installing a 240V outlet at home, the 2022 Outlander takes 4 hours to charge, and is the perfect setup. Driving range is TBD for the 2022 model, but in 2021 the Outlander PHEV could travel for 24 miles on just electric energy at a top speed of 83 mph.
With only three trims, many features are shared across the lineup. A great list, these include automatic headlights, LED taillights, LED low and high beams, heated exterior mirrors, front rain-sensing wipers, a rear window wiper and defroster, roof rails, and rear privacy glass. The GT trim comes with LED fog lights, and the LE and GT come with a power sunroof. All trims ride on 18-inch wheels.
Also a long list of standard features, the interior cabin comes equipped with 8-way power-adjustable driver (with power lumbar support) and passenger seat, heated front seats, dual-zone a/c control, rear heater ducts, a 60/40 rear folding seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Synthetic suede upholstery can be found in the LE, but the rest of the lineup comes with leather. The GT trim also comes with a heated steering wheel.
Like the exterior and interior, every 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV trim comes with an assortment of standard tech. This includes an 8-inch smartphone link display standard, with Google Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, HD Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, and steering wheel audio, phone, and voice recognition controls. The SEL trim comes with a 6-speaker system, but an 8-speaker sound system can be found in the rest of the lineup.
