Dilemmas can arise when deciding between a subcompact SUV and a hatchback. But thanks to KIA, the 2022 KIA Soul offers the best of both worlds. The box full of Soul is ample, functional, and reasonably priced. Since the Soul’s debut in 2008, it’s always reigned as the vehicle that turns heads and drops jaws without ever breaking the bank. There’s so much to love about the KIA Soul with its eccentric appeal, surprisingly spacious interior, and top-tier infotainment system.

For the 2022 model, the KIA Soul receives the new LX Technology Package. The package entails 16-inch alloy wheels and a few Drive Wise safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, driver attention warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist.
Next up, the S trim, which heightens the driver's comfort to the Soul. The S trim includes the safety features from the LX Technology Package with the additions of the 10.25-inch infotainment system with navigation, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, wireless charging pad, dual USB chargers, cloth seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat.
Then the Soul X-Line, the X-Line jagged appearance is inspired by off-roading. The X-Line provides roof rails, a locking fuel filler door, LED headlights, and high beam assist.
The Soul GT-Line is also similar in features to the X-Line but pursues a more stylish appeal. The GT-Line retains the premium cloth seats and power driver's seat with the addition of a sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic day and night rearview mirror, and rear camera display.
An upgrade to the EX trim provides a fully-featured Soul with a base engine. In addition, the EX model incorporates every feature provided in the previous trims, including heated mirrors, a rear center armrest with cup holders, a cargo cover, heated front seats, and a 12-volt power outlet located in the cargo area.
Lastly, the Soul Turbo, the premium Soul with an exhilarating turbocharged engine accompanying a seven-speed DCT (dual-clutch) transmission. The Soul Turbo resembles the GT-Line but with a center-exit chrome exhaust tip. The Turbo also contains more driver assistance technology like pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, and heads-up display.
The 2022 KIA Soul receives two engines. The base engine is this 2.0-liter inline-4 which powers a majority of Souls. The base engine accumulates 147-hp, and the four-cylinder engine accompanies a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
The premium KIA Soul premieres a 201-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with a seven-speed automatic transmission. The Turbo propels from 0-60 mph in less than seven seconds.
When it pertains to the exterior, KIA Soul never disappoints. Similarly, boxed appealing crossovers have come and gone, but the KIA Soul proves resilient. The Soul receives a light signature on the front and back with bold character lines, talking about thinking outside the box.
The Soul's doors and rear hatch openings are nice and large, whether loading a large cargo or people. The wide door openings and seating heights allow ample room for reaching the little ones. In addition, the load floor height comes in handy for loading or unloading grocery bags.

Never judge a book by its cover, especially not the KIA Soul. At first glance, the Soul appears minuscule, but the boxy build provides a space-efficient interior with ample room for cargo and company, holding up to four adults. The Soul encompasses 24.2 cubic feet of cargo space, with the back seats folded, making it 62.1 cubic feet.
KIA takes the Soul's youthfulness and incorporates a fashion-forward exterior that opens to textured door panels and colorful trim. The Soul's interior features ambient lighting, wireless charging, a heads-up display, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Another unique feature in the Soul is customization providing drivers with a sense of personality with two-tone paint options and other interior color schemes.
Touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities serve as a standard across all trim levels. The base LX offers a 7-inch touchscreen synchronized to KIA's current UVO infotainment system. Every other model excluding the base receives a 10.3-inch touchscreen providing Sirius XM radio, real-time traffic updates, in-dash navigation, and a wireless charging pad. In addition, every model, excluding the LX and the Turbo, come with a six-speaker stereo.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2021 KIA Soul ranked as the Top Safety Pick from Insurance Institute From Highway and Safety. Unfortunately, the base 2022 Soul doesn't receive standard driver-assistance technology, but the S trim and above receive available forward-collision warnings, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warnings, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
Kia provides the best comprehensive coverage amongst the competitors, especially with its powertrain warranty. The limited warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles. Powertrain warranty covers ten years or 100,000 miles. The 2022 KIA Soul holds a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $19,190 with an additional $1,120 for the destination fee.
