Kia Corp has been proudly marketing the Kia Sorento since the release of its next-gen model, and with the plug-in hybrid variant coming up, now is the best time to find out why this SUV is so popular. Having been updated with the new generation, 2022 doesn’t see as many changes. The lineup, however, has blown up for choices with everyone.
Avail. Engine Type
For 2022, the Kia Sorento has a full lineup of trims – LX, S, X-Line S, EX, X-Line EX, SX, SX Prestige, and X-Line SX Prestige AWD. Basically, everything past the base trim has an X-Line variant of it. The LX, S, and X-Line S are all powered by a 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine, optimized with Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) for better performance and fuel efficiency. Able to generate 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, it’s a good start. The rest of the lineup comes with a turbocharged 2.5-liter DOHC 4-cylinder engine with CVVT under the hood.
All of the X-Line trims come with an all-wheel drive (AWD) system with a center-locking differential that switches between the standard front-wheel drive (FWD) on all other trims and AWD when necessary. The LX and SX can upgrade to AWD, however. This can affect fuel economy.
The first three trims come with an 8-speed automatic transmission – the LX gets 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, but has a combined 24 mpg fuel economy with AWD, as does the X-Line S. The S trim has a fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The EX and SX have a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, and their respective X-Line trims have a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg.
Across the lineup, the standard features are heated exterior mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, a rear spoiler, solar control glass, privacy glass, a sound-absorbing front windshield, LED headlights, automatic headlamps, and a rear windshield wiper. All trims from the X-Line EX forward come with a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade, but the S, X-Line S, and EX can upgrade for it. All trims past and including the EX comes equipped with a Smart Power Liftgate. Depending on the trim, the wheel size may be 17-inches (LX), 18-inches, or 20-inches.
When it comes to the interior of the 2022 Kia Sorento, the LX trim comes with cloth, but the S through the SX trim comes with SynTex leather. The SX Prestige and its respective X-Line come with genuine leather upholstery. Following the same pattern, in the LX is a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, the following trims come with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar support, and the SX Prestige trims come with a 14-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar support. From the base to the EX X-Line come with a 4-way adjustable passenger seat, and the rest of the lineup comes with an 8-way adjustable passenger seat.
All trims but the base come with heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control, but only the SX Prestige trims come with heated rear seats and ventilated front seats. The LX and S trims come with a 60/40 split-folding second row, whereas the rest of the lineup has a 50/50 split-folding second row. All trims have a one-touch sliding and folding second row and a reclining and folding 50/50 third-row.
For the 2022 Kia Sorento, all trims come with Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth wireless connectivity (and voice recognition past the base), and steering wheel-mounted audio, phone, and cruise control buttons. All trims until the SX-Prestige come with a six-speaker system. The SX-Prestige and its X-Line come with a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. The base trim comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, but the rest of the lineup comes with UVO link with remote connectivity on a 10.25-inch touchscreen, plus SiriusXM Satellite Radio plus Navigation.
