For 2022, the Kia Rio comes in two trims – LX and S. The Kia Rio5 (the hatchback) has just the S trim. The entire lineup is powered by a 1.6-liter DOHC I4 engine optimized with multi-point injection for a faster fuel transfer to the engine to increase the power of the combustion. This engine is capable of generating 120 horsepower and 112 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
Each trim comes with front-wheel drive (FWD) and is paired with an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The fuel economy for the 2022 Kia Rio models last received an EPA rating of 33 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway.


Style
Exterior Features
Many features are shared across the models and the lineup, such as solar control glass, heated rear glass with timer (and wiper/washer on hatchback), heated exterior mirrors, and automatic headlamps. LED headlights are optional on all trims as well. Both vehicles ride on 15-inch wheels.
Interior Features
Some changes this year, automatic temperature control is now only an option on the S trims, not standard on the 2022 Kia Rio. Both come with a 6-way adjustable driver’s seat, a 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat, and steering-wheel-mounted audio buttons.

The standard tech setup on the 2022 Kia Rio and Rio5 is an 8-inch touchscreen display with tbe ability to upgrade to UVO link with SiriusXM Satellite Radio on both S trims. Regardless, all trims come with a six-speaker system able to use Apple CarPlay or Google Android Auto, Bluetooth wireless tech, and a rear-view monitor with Siri Eyes Free.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2022 Kia Rio and Rio5 both come with the same standard features - dual front advanced airbags, dual front seat-mounted side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, an anti-lock brake system, stability and traction control systems, a rear occupant alert system, and LATCH child-seat ready anchors. Available on the S trim on both models are advanced features like a driver attention warning system, lane keeping and following assist, lane departure warning, and forward collision avoidance with pedestrian detection, and a rear occupant alert system.
