The subcompact crossover SUV segment holds minimal to no off-roaders. However, the iconic automakers of Jeep preserve the right to off-road with a compact, reasonably priced, and practical crossover known as the 2022 Jeep Compass. The small and mighty 2022 Jeep Compass satisfies an audience indecisive between Jeep Renegade and Jeep Cherokee, delivering a compact SUV with a resilient personality. The 2022 Compass received a mid-cycle refresh. The updates undergo interior styling, a redesigned interior, a retuned suspension, and a new Latitude Lux trim. Moreover, the 2022 Jeep Compass is arguably more attractive and reasonable than ever.

2022 Jeep Compass Performance

Engine Type

There’s only one engine option for the 2022 Jeep Compass, the 2.4-liter inline-4. The engine generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) comes standard for the Sport and Latitude variations. The Latitude Lux, Trailhawk, and Limited receive all-wheel-drive (AWD). All models equipped with FWD include a 6-speed automatic transmission, and AWD variations receive a 9-speed automatic. In addition, the Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction control system comes included with an Active-Drive all-wheel-drive system. Selec-Terrain consists of the Rock Terrain setting, supplying a thrilling experience for the Trailhawk’s lower final drive ratio. The Trailhawk’s maximum tow rate (exclusive to the Trailhawk) is 2,000 lbs. Fuel economy ratings for FWD receive an estimated EPA rating of 22 miles per gallon city, 31 miles per gallon highway, and 25 combined. The Compass’s AWD acquires close to the same rating minus the one-point reduction for the highway, 22 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, 25 combined.

A look inside and the Latitude reveals a leather-wrapped steering and shift knob and vinyl-covered seats with cloth inserts and contrast stitching. Then there’s the Latitude Lux, featuring 18-inch satin-carbon painted wheels, perforated heated leather seats, and remote engine start. The Latitude Lux premiers at $29,840 and does not include destination fees. The Compass Limited trim commences at $31,640, not including destination fees. In addition, the Limited receives AWD as a standard and builds from the Latitude Lux at its base. The Limited adds twin exhaust outlets, a gloss-black grille holding bright chrome surrounds painted silver lower bumper accents, a gloss black roof panel with silver roof rails, and ambient interior lighting. Lastly is the Trailhawk, which features functional off-road equipment with standard AWD. In addition, the Trailhawk provides a one-inch suspension lift, additional skid plates, hill-descent control, distinctive front and rear fascias, and front and rear red tow hooks.
