Check out what’s new for 2019!
2.0-L Turbocharged I4
Avail. Engine Type
The 2019 Kia Sportage is offered in three different trims - LX, EX, and SX Turbo, and is powered by two different engine options. A 2.4-liter DOHC Inline four-cylinder engine capable of generating 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque is what’s under the hood of the base LX trim and the subsequent EX trim. Horsepower and torque remain the same even though consumers are able to choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive on both of these trims.
The Sportage SX boasts a more powerful engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder engine that generates 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with all-wheel-drive, the SX doesn’t lose much steam as it still delivers the same amount of torque and 237 horsepower.
Driving and Handling
All engines of the 2019 Kia Sportage are outfitted with a Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) design for improved fuel delivery into the engine’s combustion chamber, while a transmission with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) increases the performance and fuel economy of a vehicle thanks to its alteration of the timing of the valves in the engine. An electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic offers owners the chance for manual shifting thanks to a specially-designed gearshift. The towing capacity of all trims is 2,000 pounds. The FWD EX and the AWD LX trims both have the same fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, while the SX Turbo with FWD enjoys a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, while the AWD version of the same trim has a lower fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway.
The 2019 Kia Sportage has plenty of convenient features that come standard - solar control glass, privacy glass, a sound-absorbing windshield glass, heated rear glass, automatic on/off headlights, power-adjustable mirrors, and a rear spoiler that lends itself to a sporty look. The higher trims enjoy features like roof rails, heated mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, and chrome window trim. A panoramic sunroof, a power liftgate, and metal-look skid plates are all standard on the SX and available as an upgrade on the EX. Bi-Xenon HID Dynamic Blending lights are exclusive to the SX trim, providing lights that bend when the vehicle is traversing around a curve for improved visibility. A unique front fascia with different chrome accents on glossy or matte black grilles is optional on all trims. Additionally, wheel sizes increase as the trims do - 17-inch on the LX, 18-inch on the EX, and 19-inch on the SX, all alloy wheels.
Once again, different trims offer different tiers of features respectively. Woven cloth seats are the standard on the base LX trim, while heated leather-trimmed seats are standard on the EX and SX. A 60/40 split-folding rear seat, power door locks, rear ventilation ducts, a center console with storage and cup holders, day/night rearview mirror, steering wheel-mounted audio and hands-free phone control buttons, and a drive mode selector are all standard across the lineup. Dual-zone automatic temperature control, LED interior lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and knob, a push-to-start button, a gloss black interior, power windows with one-touch, and dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors are all the standard features on the higher trims. The SX stands out with a heated steering wheel, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat with two-way power lumbar support as the coziest features available.
When it comes to entertainment, a variant of features is scattered across all three trims, with the base LX offering a six-speaker audio system with AM/FM/MP3/SiriusXM and hands-free Bluetooth connectivity with a 5-inch touchscreen. A 7-inch touchscreen comes standard on the EX trim with the UVO infotainment system and an in-car connectivity suite. The best entertainment options are found on the high-tier SX trim with an 8-inch touchscreen complete with a UVO infotainment system, in-car connectivity, voice-command navigation, SiriusXM traffic, and HD radio - these options are also available as an upgrade on the EX trim. Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities come standard on the EX and SX trims, and are available as an upgrade for the base LX trim. An 8-speaker Harman/Kardon surround system caters to audiophiles as the standard on the SX and is available as an optional upgrade for the EX trim.
