3.3-L DOHC V6
Avail. Engine Type
The 2019 Kia Sorento is offered in a total of six different trims - L, LX, LX V6, EX V6, SX, and SX Limited. Two different engine options power the entire lineup. A 2.4-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder capable of generating 185 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque can be found under the hoods of the L and LX trims - both paired with an automatic six-speed transmission. The remaining four trims, LX V6, EX V6, SX, and SX Limited, all come with a more powerful engine - a 3.3-liter DOHC V6 that’s capable of generating 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque and paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission. Consumers have the ability to choose between front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive with the exception of the base L trim that’s only offered with front-wheel-drive, while horsepower and torque figures remain the same for each respective engine despite the drivetrain choice.
Driving and Handling
Both engines powering the 2019 Kia Sorento are outfitted with a Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) design that improves the delivery of fuel into the engine’s combustion chamber. Additionally, the transmission across all trims is (be it six-speed or eight-speed) equipped with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) that optimizes the engine performance and fuel economy of a vehicle due to its alteration of the timing of the cylinder valves in the engine. The towing capacity of the L and LX is 2,000 pounds, while the remaining four trims have the ability to tow up to 3,500 pounds. Fuel economy for the L and LX is standard at 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, while the LX boasts a fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The other four trims - LX V6, EX V6, SX, and SX Limited, all have the same fuel economy: 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
The 2019 Kia Sorento offers plenty of stylish features that come standard - body-color and heated outside mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, solar control glass to maintain the cabin’s temperature, privacy glass, projector beam headlights, auto light control, LED positioning lights, a locking fuel-filler door, a sporty rear spoiler, and a sound-absorbing windshield glass that’s available on all but the base L trim. A unique front fascia is available to all trims thanks to matte, gloss, and even metallic accents. Just like on other Kia models, the wheel sizes increase as the trims do, with 17-inch alloy wheels on the L, LX, and LX V6 trims; 18-inch alloy wheels on the EX V6 trim; 19-inch alloy wheels on the SX trim; and 19-inch chrome alloy wheels on the SX Limited. All EX V6, SX, and SX Limited trims enjoy high-tier features like a panoramic sunroof, a smart power liftgate, sound-absorbing front window glass, and a shark fin antenna.
When it comes to the interior of the Kia Sorento, the same pattern of different tiers offering different features follows. Woven cloth seats on the Sorento L, LX, and LX V6 come standard and are treated with the YES Essentials Fabric treatment that’s designed to protect the seats from spills, stains, and other hazards. The more luxurious EX V6 and SX trims have leather trim seats on the first and second rows, while the high-tier SX Limited comes with either black or terracotta premium Nappa leather trim on the seats, door panels, and the center console. Sliding and folding second-row seats come standard on all trims, as does a 50/50 split-folding third row, bringing the Sorento’s capacity up to seven occupants. Dual-zone automatic temperature control, a push-to-start button, one-touch power windows, heated first and second row seats, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, and a 10- or 14-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support are some of the available features on the EX V6, SX, and SX Limited trims.
Kia is very generous when it comes to entertainment, and an assortment of highly-coveted features are scattered across all six trims. The Sorento L, LX, LX V6, and EX V6 trims offer a six-speaker audio system complete with Bluetooth connectivity, Google Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities, and a 7-inch touchscreen serving as the infotainment center. A Harman/Kardon ten-speaker surround sound system with an external amp and a subwoofer comes standard on the SX and SX Limited trims, while an exclusive UVO eServices with voice-command navigation system on an eight-inch touchscreen that functions as the nerve center of the vehicle. This infotainment system includes AM/FM radio, Bluetooth audio streaming, HD Radio, SiriusXM Radio, and live traffic updates on its navigation system courtesy of Sirius XM traffic.
