2019 Chevrolet Sonic
Finally, an automaker who still knows small cars are favorable. Chevrolet has had the Chevy Sonic under its belt for over a decade. In its second generation, the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic is just as great as always. Room for passengers and cargo, and the latest infotainment tech, the Chevy Sonic breaks the small car mold.
4G LTE Wi-Fi
With three trims and two body styles, the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic can be purchased as a sedan or hatchback. The trims are LS, LT, and Premier for the sedan, just the LT and Premier for the hatchback. Under the hood of each trim of either model is a 1.4-liter Turbo ECOTEC 4-cylinder engine that can generate 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
Although only three trims, Chevrolet lists them as separate due to the transmission selected - six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. It’s unclear how much transmission changes the fuel economy. However, the Chevrolet website has released the fuel economy for the six-speed manual as 38 mpg on the highway.
The features on the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic are pretty standard across the trims. With only three, it makes sense. Lineup standards consist of solar absorbing glass to keep the cabin from heating up, automatic on/off headlamps, and heated exterior mirrors†. A power sunroof is an available option for all trims too.† Depending on the trim, consumers will be driving a 2019 Chevy Sonic on 15-inch or 17-inch wheels of various designs/styles.
For the interior, the features aren’t as widespread. A 60/40 split-folding rear bench seat, a 4-way manual adjustable driver seat and 2-way adjustable passenger seat, a leather wrapped steering wheel, a driver information center, and an auxiliary input jack. Heated driver and front passenger seats are available on the LT Auto trim on either model but standard for the Premier trim on either model. Remote start is a little tricky; it’s available on the LT Auto sedan and standard on the Premier Auto sedan, but comes standard on the LT Auto hatchback and Premier Auto sedan. Any trim that comes with manual transmission also loses out on these select features.
The standard setup for the 2019 Chevrolet Sonic on the LS sedan is a 4-speaker sound system whereas the rest of the trims on either model is a six-speaker system. Steering wheel mounted controls are standard across the lineup, along with a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. That makes up for the sound system.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2019 Chevrolet Sonic comes with ten airbags installed around the cabin to protect the driver and passengers, traction and stability systems, a rear vision camera, Chevrolet Connected Access for checking vehicle diagnostics and maintenance, and a theft-deterrent system with engine immobilization. Select trims come with forward collision alert, lane departure warning, and rear park assist.
The warranty on all Chevrolet vehicles is as follows: 2-year/24,000-mile scheduled maintenance coverage, a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, a 3-year/36,000-mile rust-through warranty, 6-year/100,000-mile corrosion warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty (100,000 miles for qualified purchases), and roadside assistance and courtesy transportation for five years/60,000 miles (100,000 miles for qualified purchases).
