As previously stated, the 2018 Ram Chassis Cab comes in three different variants - the 3500 Ram Chassis Cab, 4500 Ram Chassis Cab, and 5500 Chassis Cab. All models are also available with two cab sizes, regular cab, and crew cab. Additionally, the Chassis Cab with a crew cab is available in three trim levels - Tradesman, SLT, and Laramie. The regular cab models are only offered in the Tradesman and SLT trims.
The following specs are specifically for the 3500 model. The 3500 is powered by the standard 6.4L V8 heavy duty HEMI engine but can come with an optional 6.7L I6 Cummins turbo diesel engine under the hood. The 6.4L engine produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, and the larger 6.7L engine can put out 385 horsepower and 900 lb-ft of torque. The standard 6.4L engine is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission, with the available option of an AISIN heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission. Heavy duty engine cooling, auxiliary transmission oil cooler, and anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes are additional standard engine features.
Luckily, the 3500, 4500, and 5500 Ram Chassis Cab models share a good amount of configuration options. The Ram Chassis Cab 3500 Tradesman and SLT trim levels are offered in 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain flavors. The Ram Chassis Cab 3500 has a maximum towing capacity of 18,050 pounds* and a maximum payload of 9,660 pounds. The Ram 4500 Chassis Cab can tow up to 19,010 pounds* and has a max payload capacity of 9,660. The top-tier Ram 5500 Chassis Cab model has a towing capacity up to 18,960 pounds* and a payload capacity of 12,110 pounds.
The optional 6.7L engine makes the Ram Chassis Cab one of the most capable work trucks. Additionally, the best-in-class 15,000-mile diesel engine oil change intervals feature is ideal for commercial workers on the road. Once equipped with the 6.7L turbo engine, the Ram 3500 Chassis Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 19,270 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 5,030 pounds. The 4500 Chassis Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 25,650 pounds and a payload capacity of 8,880 pounds, and lastly, the 5500 Chassis Cab has a maximum towing capacity of 30,600 pounds and a maximum payload of 11,630 pounds.
