2018 Kia Soul EV Performance

Engine Type

The Kia Soul EV is an all-electric vehicle available in three different trims - the base EV, EV +, and the Ev-e (only available in California). All three trims are powered by a 375-volt electric motor capable of generating 109 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, all trims also use the same 30-kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. Regenerative braking is standard on all trims, simultaneously storing and reusing energy while driving. A battery heating system that pre-warms the battery in cold weather while it’s connected to the charger is also available. The heating system helps to maximize battery performance and driving range. A fully charged battery yields 108 miles of travel range.

There are three ways to recharge the battery of the Kia Soul EV, whose charging ports are located on the front grille. A convenient 120v charger that lets consumers plug right into a wall, a 240v charger that can be installed at home for convenient overnight charging, or a 480v Direct Current (DC) Fast Charge found in public locations. The charge time varies greatly depending on which charging method is selected - the 120v charge takes about 24 hours to complete a full charge, the 240v charge completes a full charge in about four to five hours, and the quickest, the DC Fast Charge, can give consumers an 80 percent charge in about 30 minutes. It is recommended that consumers who charge at home do so during off-peak hours (12 AM - 6 AM) to save money on their electricity bill.
