2018 Kia Cadenza
The 2018 Kia Cadenza is said to be just a mid-size sedan, but one look on the inside and it is much more. Like the Kia K900, one could say the Kia Cadenza is another luxury vehicle hiding under an abnormal name and an affordable price. The term “Cadenza” means “a virtuoso solo passage inserted into a movement in a concerto or other work, typically near the end.” Well, we don’t see Kia Motors ending this model lineup anytime soon, especially with the 2019 model year vehicles already on the move and the Cadenza only in the second year of its second generation.
Avail. Engine Type
The 2018 Kia Cadenza is made up of three trims - Premium, Technology, and Limited. Don’t let the names fool you, the “Limited” is the high-tier trim and the “Premium” is the base; the Technology trim gets a boost of modern tech not found on the base. A single engine powers all three trims as well, a 3.3-liter DOHC V6 engine built with dual continuously variable valve timing (CVVT), a process that optimizes an engine’s output. This engine is able to generate 290 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque.
Driving and Handling
All 2018 Kia Cadenza trims are paired to an electronically controlled 8-speed automatic transmission overdrive with Sportmatic and Smartshift & Drive. Wow, what a mouthful. Basically, all 2018 Kia Cadenza trims come with an automatic transmission with eight gears, and Sportmatic allows the driver to switch gears manually if they choose. Because all trims have the same engine and transmission pairing, all of them get 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
As noted above, the “Limited” trim come with everything, whereas the “Technology” trim will see more modern up-class features. Standard on the lineup are heated exterior mirrors, solar control glass to keep the cabin from heating up, a sound-absorbing windshield and front door windows, LED rear combination lamps, automatic headlamps, a smart trunk, and integrated dual exhaust in chrome for a little style. Standard on the Technology trim and optional on the Premium are power-folding mirrors, a Smart Welcome function, and a panoramic sunroof with a power sunshade. High-end features only found on the Technology and Limited trim consist of rain-sensing windshield wipers, LED headlights, high beam assist, and LED front fog lights. All trims ride on either 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin is where the secretly high-class Kia Cadenza shines. Right off the bat, leather upholstery is a lineup standard, followed by heated front seats, a Smart Key with push-button start, smart shift and drive with three driving modes, dual-zone automatic climate control, an auto-defrost system, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. In order of trim, a 10-way power adjustable drivers seat and an 8-way passenger seat come standard on the base; a 14-way power adjustable drivers seat and 10-way passenger seat can be found on the Technology and Limited trims. Other features found on these high-end trims are ventilated front seats, heated rear seats (Limited only), a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, LED interior lighting (optional on Premium trim), and a rear-window sunshade (Limited only). Each trim has 16 cubic-feet of cargo volume.
No matter the trim, every 2018 Kia Cadenza comes with UVO eServices with SiriusXM and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capabilities. The difference is whether this infotainment system comes on a 7-inch touchscreen (Premium) or an 8-inch touchscreen with HD Radio and Navigation (Technology and Limited). All trims come with Bluetooth wireless technology with hands-free connectivity and steering wheel-mounted audio, phone, and cruise control buttons. The Technology and Limited trims come with a wireless smartphone charger and have a Harman/Kardon 12-speaker system with QuantumLogic™ Premium Surround Sound w/ Clari-Fi™ (optional on Premium trim). Only the Limited trim comes with a heads-up display.
Safety Features and Warranty
The 2018 Kia Cadenza comes with all the basic safety features, including dual stage advanced front airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, LATCH-ready anchors for Latch child seats, traction and stability control systems, ABS, rear-door child safety locks, a rear camera display, and safety crumple zone body construction. Many advanced features can be found on the Technology and Limited trims with some optional for the Premium trim. These consist of a surround view monitor, (smart) blind spot detection, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, a rear parking assist system, autonomous emergency braking, advanced smart cruise control, a forward collision warning system, and a lane departure warning system.
All Kia models are backed by an industry leading warranty. The Kia Cadenza is backed by a 10-year or 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a 5-year or 60,000-mile limited basic warranty, and a 5-year or 100,000-mile limited anti-perforation warranty.
