2018 Jeep Cherokee
Jeep® be nimble, Jeep be quick. The Jeep Cherokee can get over way more than a candlestick. When it comes to going off-road, one can’t go wrong with a Jeep. When it comes to being nimble and quick, a good choice would be the Jeep Cherokee. Going into its 2018 model year, the lineup has been slightly reduced, but that just means less confusion when choosing the right trim for off-road outings.

Max Towing Capacity
For the 2018 model year, there are five Cherokee trims, and the same engines that were available in 2017 have returned. Four Cherokee trims, the Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Latitude Plus, Cherokee Limited, and Cherokee Overland come standard with a front-wheel drivetrain and a 184-horsepower 2.4-liter MultiAir engine. “Multi-Air” is the name for the hydraulic-powered variable valve timing (VVT) technology Jeep has for some its engines, altering the valve lift event on the engine’s cylinders during the intake and exhaust of gas and air for better fuel efficiency.
Optional on the above four trims, and standard on the Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, only available with four-wheel-drive, is a 3.2-liter V6 engine with VVT and electric start-stop. This engine is capable of 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque, giving the 2018 Jeep Cherokee a best-in-class V6 maximum towing capacity of 4,500 pounds.
Fuel Economy and 4x4 Systems
The fuel economy for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee trims is simple - all trims are paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and when powered by the standard engine, the Cherokee has a fuel economy of 21/28 mpg city/highway. If opting in for the 3.2-liter engine, the average fuel economy is 21/28 mpg city/highway.
4x4 systems are, of course, only available on Cherokee models with a 4x4 drivetrain. The standard 4x4 system on the Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Latitude Plus, Cherokee Limited, and Cherokee Overland is Jeep Active Drive I, able to automatically engage four-wheel drive mode when driving conditions call for it, making this a part-time 4x4 system. The 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk on the other hand comes standard with Jeep Active Drive II, and it has a low range and neutral mode for low-speed traction with a 56:1 crawl ratio and flat-towing capability. The Cherokee Trailhawk also comes with Jeep Active Drive Lock to lock the drivetrain into 4x4 for off-road capability wherever, whenever.
All 2018 Jeep Cherokee trims come with a Jeep cargo management system on the roof. Other standard exterior features include automatic headlamps, active grille shutters, and an underbody aerodynamic treatment. Available features consist of a CommandView dual-pane panoramic sunroof, heated exterior mirrors, and a power liftgate. Jeep Cherokee trims ride on 17-inch or 18-inch wheels (both made of aluminum), and may have up to six colors to choose from for the body paint.
The standard upholstery for the 2018 Jeep Cherokee is cloth, but for that comfortable leather feel, go for the Jeep Cherokee Limited (complete with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob). The standard features found in the interior are a rear 60/40 split-fold seat, rear seat heat ducts, cargo tie-down loops, and a Jeep cargo management system. Upscale features available on select trims consist of heated front seats, ventilated front seats, automatic temperature control, a heated steering wheel, and a USB charging port in the center console. Consumers may find up to four color choices for the interior of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee.
The standard entertainment system in the 2018 Jeep Cherokee is a 6-speaker system with a 5-inch touchscreen display. However, all trims past the base (Latitude) have an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, and the Cherokee Overland has a 9-amplified speaker system with a subwoofer (optional on the Cherokee Limited). Integrated voice command with Bluetooth is a lineup standard. Available on select trims is Uconnect 3C with navigation, Uconnect Access, and steering wheel mounted controls for audio.
Many basic and advanced features can be found available on the 2018 Jeep Cherokee. Standard safety features consist of advanced multistage front airbag system with supplemental airbags all around the cabin, stability and traction control systems, an enhanced accident response system, keyless entry, a ParkView rear backup camera, and a LATCH-ready child seat anchor system. Advanced features available consist of blind spot and cross path detection, LaneSense lane departure warning, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a ParkSense rear park assist system.
All Jeep vehicles are covered by a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000 miles.
