Trims

When it comes to the Dodge Challenger, the number of trims available is staggering. There are 16 in total, 15 of which come with rear-wheel drive as the only available drivetrain. The second drivetrain is all-wheel drive, and is only available to the Challenger GT AWD trim. The rest of the trims, in order from low-end to high-end, are - SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Shaker, T/A, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Plus Shaker, T/A Plus, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, T/A 392, SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody, and the SRT Demon.

The Dodge Challenger T/A trims were originally thought to only be available for the 2017 model year, but they remain on the lineup in 2018. In addition, any trim with the term “scat pack” in the name has a chance to look as bestial as the Challenger SRT Hellcat with the addition of the optional Dodge Scat Pack Dynamics Package. Two other models we have yet to hear more about but could be late additions are the Dodge Challenger Barracuda and Dodge Challenger Angel.

Driving and Handling

With the exception of the 6.2L SRT Demon engine that is paired to the 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission, all Challenger models come standard with a 6-speed manual TREMEC transmission, and they are also available with the 8-speed TorqueFlite transmission.

Engines

There are five engines on the 2018 Dodge Challenger lineup. The base engine is the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine and it produces 305 horsepower. The 3.6L engine is available on the Challenger SXT, SXT Plus and GT AWD trims. A step up from the base trim is the 375-horsepower 5.7L HEMI V8 engine and it is available on six Challenger trims (Challenger R/T, Challenger R/T Plus, Challenger R/T Shaker, Challenger T/A, Challenger R/T Plus Shaker and ChallengerT/A Plus). Additionally, buyers can opt for the 5.7L engine with a multi-displacement system (MDS), which turns off some of the vehicle's cylinders when they are not needed.

In addtion to the 3.6L and 5.7L engines, there are three SRT engines and these engines make the Challenger performance muscle cars. The 6.4L V8 SRT HEMI engine produces 485-horsepower and it is available on four Challenger trims (Challenger R/T Scat Pack, Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, Challenger T/A 392 and Challenger SRT 392). Lik the 5.7L engine, the 6.4L is also available with MDS technology. The second most powerful engine on the Challenger lineup is exclusive to the Challenger SRT Hellcat and Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody trims and it is the supercharged 6.2L V8 SRT Hellcat HEMI engine. The 6.2L SRT Hellcat engine produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is the new supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 SRT Demon engine and it is standard on the Challenger SRT Demon. The Challenger SRT Demon engine produces 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque, which makes its the most powerful factory-produced muscle car in the world.

Exterior Features

When it comes to style, Dodge heritage and iconic colors come into play. Some Challenger models are available with racing stripes, a black spoiler, or a black satin hood, and other Challenger models have decals and graphics that belong only to them. These include R/T side stripes, Shaker graphics, Scat Pack Bumblebee stripes, SRT twin racing stripes, the T/A graphics and badges, the Hellcat head logo, of course the Demon head logo, and much more. For lighting, automatic headlamps and LED split tail lamps may be a lineup standard, but only trims such as the T/A series, SRT Hellcat, and SRT Demon will get illuminated air catcher headlamps.

Features found as standard or available throughout the lineup consist of an auto-dimming rearview mirror, exterior heated mirrors, and solar control glass. Specific trims will get stylish dual rear exhaust with bright tips, a functional hood scoop, and/or a cold air intake system by Mopar. For the wheels, the choices offer a large variety, ranging from 18-inch satin carbon aluminum wheels to 20-inch SRT wheels. The body paint colors have been narrowed down to ten for each trim (15 on the Demon), including several of Dodge’s signature High Impact Paint (HIP) colors.

Interior Features

In comparison to 2017 Challenger models, there aren’t many interior differences on 2018 Dodge Challenger models, with the exception of the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. There’s still plenty of seating materials for buyers to choose for the upholstery, such as cloth or leather (Laguna or Nappa), and the 60/40 split-fold rear seat for opening up cargo space. Select trims have a leather trimmed heated steering wheel, heated and/or ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and the option to cut a hole into the roof of the Challenger for a sunroof. SRT Drive Modes and a SRT instrument panel can be found on all SRT trims.

Trim specific options may be leather trim bucket seats with the T/A logo, leather upholstery with the SRT or Hellcat logo, or red seat belts. A leather flat bottom steering wheel comes on all trims following and including the SRT 392. Premium floor mats may appear in some trims. The seating capacity of all Challenger trims (but the Challenger SRT Demon) is five passengers. The choice of interior colors may be anywhere from two to four colors and/or color combinations

2018 Challenger SRT Demon

Initially, the SRT Demon comes with no passenger seat and no rear bench seat. However, there are packages that can change all that. Standard, there’s just the driver’s seat trimmed in cloth. Packages and add-ons include a trunk carpet kit, a fancy red seat belt restraint system, a power sunroof, a passenger seat and/or rear bench in cloth or leather, and a better sound system with Uconnect 4C on an 8.4-inch display.

SRT performance models like the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon have SRT Performance pages in their Uconnect system and this allows drivers to track the performance of their car, track times, and more. Additionally, the Challenger SRT Hellcat and  Challenger SRT Demon have two keys, a black key and a red key. The black key resitricts the vehicle's horsepower and the red key unleashes the vehicle's full horsepower.

Entertainment

Back in 2017, the next-generation Uconnect 4C came out, and for 2018 it is standard on every SRT trim. The same system is available as an optional upgrade for several other trims. Other entertainment features include an audio system ranging from a basic 6-speaker system (2-speaker minimal audio system on the Challenger SRT Demon) to an 18-speaker system with a subwoofer. There’s also Uconnect 4, Apple CarPlay, and Google Android Auto, all controllable through a 7-inch or 8.4-inch touchscreen display. Integrated voice command with Bluetooth, a rearview backup camera, and steering wheel mounted audio controls are a lineup standard.

Safety Features and Warranty

Safety features found on all 2018 Dodge Challenger trims are advanced (SRT) multistage front airbags, supplemental side-mounted front and side-curtain airbags, active head restraints, traction and stability control systems, keyless entry or keyless enter ‘n go, a security alarm, and a Sentry key theft deterrent system. Advance safety features either standard or optional throughout the lineup are blind spot and rear cross path detection, forward collision warning, ParkSense rear park assist system, ParkView rear back up camera, and a remote start system.

Warranty

All 2018 Challenger models are covered by Dodge’s usual warranties – a 3-year or 36,000-mile basic warranty, a 5-year or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance for five years or 100,000 miles, and rust-through coverage for five years or 100,000 miles. The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is also said to be covered by FCA US LLC’s factory warranties, but only the three-year/36,000-mile limited vehicle warranty and five-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain coverage are mentioned.
