2018 Chevrolet Traverse
When an automaker like Chevrolet releases a vehicle for the new model year, ears perk up because Chevy is known for always improving upon past models. That is just as true with the all-new 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. The new Chevy Traverse is lighter while offering more power, has a little more style, modern tech, and offers a great driving experience.

Although available with two drivetrains, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, there is one engine for all trims. Under the hood of the 2018 Chevy Traverse is a 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine built with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing technology (VVT). The two are designs implemented to improve the performance of an engine, with direct fuel injection transferring fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder in an engine, and VVT altering the timing of a lift valve event for the intake/exhaust of fuel/air.
Driving and Handling
All trims are also connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission. With the engine designs and technology described above, this pairing leads to a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway for the front-wheel drive Traverse. If equipped with the all-wheel drivetrain, the fuel economy drops to 17/25 mpg city/highway. The base trim, the Traverse L, is only available with front-wheel drive, and the newest trim, the Traverse High Country, is only available with all-wheel drive.
The look of the Chevy Traverse is unique, designed with look of an SUV, but inside it feels as spacious as a minivan due to its three-row seating. Deep tinted glass is standard on all trims but the Traverse L. A variety of headlamps are available depending on the trim, with high-intensity discharge headlamps on the Traverse L, LS, and LT (cloth and leather) trims. There is LED lighting on the Traverse Premier, and IntelliBeam headlamps on the Traverse High Country trim. The Traverse comes standard with 18- or 20-inch rims depending on the trim.
On the inside of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse is tri-zone automatic climate control. The Traverse Premier and High Country trims come standard with driver memory settings, and so does wireless charging, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel (leather wrapped on all trims following and including LT Cloth). The Traverse LT Leather, Premier, and High Country trims come with heated driver and front passenger seats, and surround vision. Only the Traverse High Country trim comes with a third-row with a 60/40 split-fold bench.
Between the exterior and interior, there are two packages that may increase driver comfort, upgrade safety, or offer better technology. These are:
- Convenience and Driver Confidence adds Chevrolet MyLink with an 8-inch color touchscreen, heated front seats, a rear power liftgate, side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist. It is available on the LT Cloth and comes standard on the LT Leather trim.
- Driver Confidence II adds low-speed forward automatic braking, forward collision alert, lane departure with lane keep assist, front pedestrian detection, and Intellibeam headlamps. It is only available on the Premier trim.
-Interior Protection adds all-weather floor mats to all rows and an all-weather rear cargo mat. It is available on all trims after the base trim.
Standard on the first three trims is Chevrolet MyLink with a 7-inch color touchscreen, with an 8-inch color touchscreen available on the LT Cloth. Standard on the LT Leather, Premier, and High Country gets Chevrolet MyLink on an 8-inch color touchscreen with navigation capabilities. These three trims also come with a Bose premium 10-speaker sound system.
