The Chevy Malibu is available with three different engines. The Chevy Malibu L, LT, and LS are equipped with a 160-horsepower 1.5-liter EcoTec I-4 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The 1.5L engine is a very efficient engine that offers drivers enough power to quickly accelerate when needed. The Chevy Malibu Premier comes standard with a 250-horsepower 2.0L turbocharged ECOTEC engine and a 9-speed automatic transmission, which is an available upgrade on other Malibu trims.

Fuel Economy

The 1.5L engine gives the 2018 Chevy Malibu an average fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city, 36 mpg on the highway and a combined city/highway fuel economy of 30 mpg. The 2.0L engine gives the Chevy Malibu a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city, 32 mpg on the highway and a combined city/highway fuel economy of 26 mpg.

Chevy Malibu Hybrid

The third engine available on the Malibu lineup is exclusive to the Malibu Hybrid. In addition to the 1.8-liter engine, the Malibu Hybrid’s powertrain includes a battery, which aides in certain engine functions. Thanks to the help from the battery, the Malibu Hybrid is extremely fuel efficient. The Chevy Malibu Hybrid averages an impressive 49 mpg in the city, 43 mpg on the highway and has a combined city/highway fuel economy of 46 mpg.

The Chevy Malibu is a mid-size five-passenger sedan designed for everyone ranging from young professionals to busy parents. To ensure comfort at all levels, the Chevy Malibu provides ample leg room for front and back seat passengers. There is 42 inches of legroom for front seat passengers and 38.10 inches of legroom for backseat passengers. The Chevy Malibu Premier features leather seats, and the front seats are heated and ventilated, and those features are available options to buyers of the LT trim.


Tech options inside the Chevy Malibu offer drivers and passengers all of today’s essential must-haves. The Malibu LS, LT and Hybrid trims are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display and Chevy MyLink, which is Chevy’s brand of infotainment system, and the Malibu Premier is equipped with Chevy MyLink and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Chevy Malibu has a sleek and modern exterior design. It features slanted headlights and rounded corners on both the front and rear of the vehicle. The Malibu L is equipped with 16-inch steel wheels and other wheel options available on the Malibu lineup include 16-, 17-, 18- or 19-inch aluminum wheels.

Price + Warranty

The 2018 Chevy Malibu has a starting MSRP of $21,680 (plus destination fee). Chevrolet backs all of its models with a three-year or 36,000-mile limited basic warranty, a five-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and offers complimentary roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles. Additionally, Chevy also offers new owners two years of scheduled maintenance.
