2018 Chevrolet Cruze
The 2018 Chevrolet Cruze is here, and it comes in many different forms. For one thing, the Cruze is available as a sedan or a hatchback and the lineup includes four trim options. Also, the Cruze is available with a few different engine options, including a new diesel engine that gives the Cruze a fuel economy of 53 mpg on the highway.

The Chevrolet Cruze is available in two body styles, a hatchback and a sedan. The Cruze sedan is available in four trims - the L, LS, LT and Premier; the Cruze hatchback is available in two trims - the LT and Premier. All Chevy Cruze models come standard with front-wheel drive, and the sedan and hatchback are available with the two engine options and different transmission options.
1.4L Ecotec Turbo Engine
One engine option is the 1.4-liter Ecotec DOHC turbo I4 engine with continuously variable valve timing. The 1.4L engine produces 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque and it is available with a manual or automatic 6-speed manual transmission. Depending on the transmission, body style and trim, the Chevy Cruze sedan has a fuel economy of 28-30 mpg in the city and 37-40 mpg on the highway.
New 1.6L Diesel Engine
The other engine available on the Chevy Cruze is new to the 2018 model year and it is a 1.6-liter ECOTEC DOHC turbo diesel I4 engine. Designed to maximize fuel economy, the 1.6L diesel engine gives the Cruze an average fuel economy of 30-31 mpg in the city and 47-52 mpg on the highway, which makes the Cruze Diesel the most fuel efficient non-hybrid/ non-EV vehicle on the highway in the U.S. The diesel engine is available with a manual 6-speed transmission or a 9-speed automatic transmission.
As it goes with Chevrolet, consumers have many available options when buying a 2018 Chevy Cruze, and standard features vary between body style and trim. Some of the standard exterior features on all Cruze models include solar absorbing windows and daytime running lamps. When it comes to the wheels, the Cruze hatchback comes standard with 16-inch aluminum wheels, and the Cruze sedan comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels.
There are also several packages available for the exterior that a consumer may opt-in for on the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze. There is the Driver Confidence Package that increases safety by adding rear park assist, lane change alert with side blind zone alert, and rear cross traffic alert. Then there’s Driver Confidence II that adds IntelliBeam headlamps, forward collision alert, a following distance indicator, and lane departure warning with lane keep assist in addition to the items in the Driver Confidence Package. The RS package is mainly aesthetic, adding a rear spoiler, fog lamps, a Sport body kit, RS lettering, and more. These packages are mainly available to high-end trims on the sedan, but the RS package is standard for the base trim on the hatchback, the Cruze hatchback LT.
Again, many features are optional, but it depends on the body style and the trim. For instance, all-weather floor mats and a cargo net are available on many Cruze hatchback trims, but only the all-weather floor mats are available on select Cruze sedan trims. Other features that match this pattern are ambient cabin lighting, heated driver and front passenger seats, keyless open and keyless start, remote start, and steering wheel mounted controls. A rear view camera however is a lineup standard, regardless of body style.
Features such as a leather wrapped and/or heated steering wheel can be found on select trims. Several more packages are available for the interior. The convenience package, adding keyless open and start, heated front seats, an 8-way power adjustment driver seat, and remote start on models is available or standard on many hatchback models with automatic transmission, but is only available on the Cruze sedan when equipped with a diesel engine. Other packages consist of the “Enhanced Convenience Package” that has features like single-zone automatic control and wireless device charging, the “Sun and Sound Package” that adds a Sunroof and enhanced sound system, and other technology inclined packages.
The standard sound system for the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze sedan is a 4-speaker sound system, but a 6-speaker system can be found on high-end trims and sedans with a diesel engine. The 6-speaker system is the standard for hatchback models. A Bose premium 9-speaker sound system is available for many trims, mostly those with a Sun and Sound package available.
There are three packages for technology and entertainment for the 2018 Chevy Cruze. There is the “Sun and Sound Package” discussed above, the “Sun and Sound with navigation Package” that adds Chevrolet MyLink Radio with Navigation to the Sun and Sound Package, and a “Driver Confidence, Sun, and Sound Package” that basically combines “Driver Confidence” and the “Sun and Sound” packages. Their availability is on select trims for the hatchback and sedan models.
Aside from the advanced safety features that come in available packages, the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze has a 10-airbag system, stability and traction control systems, a Teen Driver mode, and various OnStar programs as the standard. The available OnStar programs include OnStar basic for five years, a trial version of OnStar Guidance, OnStar Automatic Crash Response, OnStar Crisis Assist, OnStar Emergency Services, OnStar Hands-Free Calling, and much more.
The warranty on all 2018 Chevrolet Cruze vehicles is as follows: 2-year/24,000-mile scheduled maintenance coverage, a 3-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, a 3-year/36,000-mile rust-through warranty, 6-year/100,000-mile corrosion warranty, a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty (100,000 miles for qualified purchases), and roadside assistance and courtesy transportation for five years/60,000 miles (100,000 miles for qualified purchases).
