2017 Kia Cadenza
Full-size sedans may not be the norm anymore, though there are drivers who like the 4-door car a little on the big side. When you get a sedan with lots of luxury and comfort though, a little more room to stretch out ain’t that bad. Who knew a luxury sedan was hiding in the Kia lineup? With all their nifty vehicles, and names, the Kia Cadenza doesn’t stand out. After a closer look though, it’s clearly a blend of modern features, style, and the finer things when leather seat are the standard. Only in it’s second generation, let’s see what a luxury sedan can do.
Available Fuel Economy
Avail. Engine Type
All three Kia Cadenza trims are powered by a 3.3-liter V6 engine. It generates 290 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. Built with several mechanisms in place, this engine has been primed to deliver power and fuel economy.
First, the engine is built with a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) that relieves the tension off the engine by separating the cylinders intake and exhaust, and the less tension on an engine the better it will perform. Second, it’s built with dual continuously variable valve timing (CVVT) that offers an infinite number of adjustments to the valve timing event of the cylinders intake and exhaust of fuel and air for all engine speeds and conditions. Lastly, the fuel delivery system is gasoline direct injection (GDI), a process quickly overtaking once popular systems due to its method of injecting pressurized fuel directly into an engine’s combustion chamber via the fuel line.
Transmission and Fuel Economy
All three 2017 Kia Cadenza trims are also paired to the same transmission. It is an 8-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission with Sportmatic and Smartshift & Drive integrated. That sounds like it has to be one of the fanciest transmissions ever. Sportmatic transmissions are automatic transmissions that allow the driver to manually switch gears if they choose. Smartshift & Drive seems to be a trademark name for a shifter dial found along the steering wheel or paddle shifter that allows for seamless switching of gears. With overdrive, the driver can set the transmission to reduce engine RPM and improve the Cadenza’s fuel consumption, which is an average of 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Not only is the 2017 Kia Cadenza the luxury sedan of Kia, but all three trims are equipped with many of the same features, making any of the trim options ideal for a buyer looking for luxury. All three Cadenza trims come standard with heated power mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, solar control glass, a sound absorbing front windshield and front windows, a smart trunk that automatically opens when in proximity of the smart key, and automatic on/off headlights. A panoramic sunroof comes standard on the Cadenza Technology and Limited trims, but is an upgrade option for the base trim, the Cadenza Premium.
18-inch alloy wheels are standard for the Cadenza Premium, and 19-inch alloy wheels with a dark satin finish are standard for the Cadenza Limited. The Cadenza Technology is available with 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels, and all trims come standard with a spare tire.
All 2017 Kia Cadenza models have leather seating trim, and the Cadenza Limited is fitted with quilted Nappa leather. All Cadenza trims have heated front seats, and the Cadenza Technology and Limited trims are equipped with ventilated front seat; the Cadenza Limited also has heated rear seats. In the Cadenza Technology and Limited trims, the steering wheel is heated, and the integrated memory system stores up to two driver’s seating settings.
All three trims also come with a trip computer, a smart key with push-button start and engine immobilizer, dual-zone automatic temperature control, an auto defrost system to remove moisture from the windshield and front door glass, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Power-operated rear window sunshades can be found on the Cadenza Limited. LED interior lighting is standard in the Cadenza Technology and Limited trims, and it is an optional upgrade on the Cadenza Premium.
Again, lots of goodies for everyone here. The Cadenza Premium has a 7-inch touchscreen with UVO eServices, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and smartphone link connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. However, the Cadenza can upgrade to an 8-inch display, plus HD Radio and voice-command navigation, standard on the Technology and Limited trims.
A Harmon/Kardon Quantum Logic premium surround sound 12-speaker system is standard on the Cadenza Technology and Limited trims, and an optional add-on for the Cadenza Premium. All three trims are equipped with Bluetooth wireless hands-free connectivity, steering wheel mounted audio controls, and a rear camera display. The Cadenza Technology and Limited trims have a wireless smartphone charger, which is an excellent modern amenity.
