2017 Chevrolet Trax

For a combination of practicality, presence, efficiency, and affordability, drivers turn to the Chevrolet Trax series. When designing the new model, Chevrolet created a compact SUV that hits the sweet spot, and consumers are loving it. Sportier and more fuel efficient than other compact SUVs on the market, the Chevy Trax holds its own. The 2017 model was rounded out and improved upon, now making it one of the first compact SUVs to offer advanced phone integration technologies.

2017 Chevrolet Trax Performance
2017 Chevy Trax

The 2017 Chevy Trax lineup is available in three trims and the same engine powers all of them. It’s a 1.4-liter ECOTEC Turbo DOHC engine, generating 138-horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. The “DOHC” in the name stands for “Double Overhead Camshaft”, meaning it is stronger and performs better than engines with a single camshaft. Fuel efficiency was increased, currently putting the Trax LS and LT trims at 25/35 mpg city/highway, and the Trax Premier at 24/30 mpg city/highway.

Driving and Handling

The gears are changed via a 6-speed automatic transmission, standard on all trims. The main difference shared between the three trims is the drive powertrain. The LS and LT are locked into front-wheel drive, whereas the Premier has all-wheel drive. Some would say this gives drivers of the Trax Premier trim better control, since all four wheels are receiving torque at any given time.

Standard Equipment

Features on the exterior are mostly varied between the different trims, some coming down to driver preference. For instance, the Trax LS (base trim) doesn’t have deep-tinted rear windows, but the Trax LT and Trax Premier do. The same goes for halogen reflect headlamps (base trim) versus halogen projector headlamps (Trax LT and Trax Premium), and sculpted tail lamps (base trim) versus LED tail lamps (Trax LT and Trax Premium). The standard wheels on the LS are 16-inch steel wheels, 16-inch Aluminum on the LT, and 18-inch Midnight Silver aluminum on the Premier.

Available Packages

There are three packages available on the various 2017 Chevrolet Trax trims. The Protection Package has all-weather floor mats and custom splash guards. The LT Convenience Package comes with keyless open and start functionality, wraps the steering wheel in leather, and offers driver 6-way power seat adjustment, among other things. The Sun and Sound Package includes a sunroof and a 7-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Interior and Technology

Comfortable Cabin

Many interior features are shared across the trims. All trims have a rear 60/40 split-bench seat, a heater duct in the rear floor, and cargo storage under the rear floor. Some features only available to the Trax Premier trim are nice, but not deal breaking. Some of these features are an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather seat trimming, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. For convenience, remote keyless entry has been installed into the Trax LS and LT trims. A remote vehicle starter system is installed into the Trax LT and Premier trims.

Entertainment +Technology

All 2017 Chevy Trax trims have a Chevrolet MyLink Audio system with Bluetooth streaming technology for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch color touchscreen, and a driver information center. The standard for sound is a 6-speaker system, with a Bose premium 7-speaker sound system standard on the Trax Premier, and available for the Trax LT through the Sun and Sound package. A SiriusXM Satellite Radio 3-month trial comes with the Trax LT and Premier, and several OnStar trial programs are available to all trims.
